NaNoWriMo Update:
Only 2.5 scenes left until the climax. The tension is killing me.
Reminder to self:
Your writing seems boring and predictable because
You wrote it
You’ve read it like eight million times.
A person who has never read it before does not have this problem.
Great encouragement for writers
Pass it on
When you’re almost at 60,000 words but you wrote 37,000 of them before November
Screenshot from the novel. We are now entering the Unexpected Love Subplot That Will Eventually End in Disaster™.
where a grad student becomes a supervillain for extra credit since their doctoral committee is lowkey three of the city’s supervillains. and they meet the hero who is cute and charming and idealistic. and damn, extra credit is so not worth this. but damn, grad school is expensive and the job market is competitive
“there’s good in you”
“i really think all that’s in me at this point is ramen, red bull and spite”
I WOULD BUY THIS NOVEL
“My question is, what happened that you could turn to the dark side?”
“I failed.”
“What did you fail? Yourself? Your family? Your lover?”
“No, Developmental Biology.”
NaNoWriMo challenge — Day 7
Does romance play a major part in your story? If so, between whom? If not, do you have any specific reason why?

NOPE, this book is very not romantic. Except for the two main antagonists. But I didn’t plan that, it just kind of … happened. And they’ll end up tragically hating each other at the end anyway. :P
NaNoWriMo challenge — Day 6
How did the idea for this story come to you?

I was this 9 year old kid writing random stuff in a notebook I carried around with me forever ago. Then I was this 11 year old kid whose friend was also a writer and was like “oh crap what do I do it’s her birthday tomorrow”.
After skimming through my notebooks, I found a story opening I liked, and turned it into Chapter One of a book, for the sole purpose of giving to my friend for her birthday. After that, I just kept “publishing” (aka printing out) more chapters written spur-of-the-moment and giving them to my friend, until finally reaching the end of the story’s first draft.
NaNoWriMo challenge — Day 5
Do you have a face canon for your characters (whether it’s artwork or a picture of a real-life person to represent them)? If so, it’s time to share them!

For most of my characters I don’t have a real-life picture. I saw a kid that was the EXACT IMAGE of my MC the other day, but I didn’t take a picture of him. :( I know what they look like, I just don’t have a drawing/photo that fits closely enough. Dreadlocks, dark skin, and a shy face. That’s the best I can describe it.
Except for the two white guys. They’re secondary characters, but in the same way that Ron and Hermione are secondary characters. The friendly one: Chris Hemsworth with shoulder-length hair. The rude one: Benedict Cumberbatch with brown, almost-black hair.
Now you can imagine those actors as constantly bantering friends who are annoyed at each other half the time. You’re welcome. <3
NaNoWriMo challenge — Day 4
Is your story set in our world? If so, in what time period and location? If not, what is your world like? Is there an equivalent time period you can identify it as (like medieval fantasy, for instance)?

Yes. Present day. Some random city + small town in the USA. The perfect place to have my characters get terrorized by cats.
the face that says, “you were going to start this book yesterday…… and you didn’t”
NaNoWriMo challenge — Day 3
Introduce your protagonist (or one of your protagonists) to us. Who are they? What is their role in/why are they a part of the story? What are their relationships with other main characters and the antagonists? What are their motivations, conflicts, character arc?

My protagonist is a 12 year old kid who is kidnapped by scientists for well-meaning reasons! He ends up saving the scientists from their own experiments, sort-of. He’s blunt, but shy with people he’s just met. He puts up this silently-judging-you front, but underneath he’s just an innocently curious-about-everything little dude. He also has a knack for saying the right thing at the right time.
jk finally speaks out against the cursed child backlash
Screenshot of the novel.
reverse hades/persephone, where the young daughter of summer uses plant magic to ensnare the lord of darkness and keep him prisoner in a beautiful garden above ground. Eventually, enchanted by her cleverness and wild youth he agrees to eat six pomegranate seeds and stay with her for half of every year.
# ID READ THE FUCK OUT OF THAT # HE TRIES BEING ALL IMPOSINGLY MIGHTY AND WRATHFUL WHILE PERSPHONE JUST GOES ON WATERING THE FLOWERS OUTSIDE HIS CAGE # HE PETITIONS TO AT LEAST GET SOME DEATHBELL AND NIGHTSHADE AND ASPHODEL GROWING IN THERE BUT IT’S ALL LOTUSES AND SUNFLOWERS AND APPLES # AND LIKE CORN EVERYWHERE HE FUCKING HATES CORN # THEY COMPROMISE ON POMEGRANATES (x)
It’d be even funnier if the other gods show up all “Persephone, hey, you got the lord of death in there so no one’s dying anymore and the world is getting too full—” “Not my problem”
@kelkat9
This would of course lead to a word in which there is no winter, but people can only die for six months out of the year. Which is a heck of a setting for all kinds of story.
Tagging Game
Admittedly, I abandoned this blog for a couple weeks. But looking through my notes, I found I’d been tagged! Thank you writing side of tumblr for being so incredibly friendly! I’ve always wondered how people even make friends on Tumblr, but clearly I’ve been hanging out on the wrong side of Tumblr all along. x)
I got tagged by @merigreenleaf so here goes nothing. Rules: Tag 10 people to get to know them better I don’t really know any of my followers yet... pretty sure half of you are from that one NaNoWriMo thread, which is awesome. 10 is actually half of my follower count.
