“Jumping from a cliff will prove my strength of character?” She couldn’t help but laugh, “Your reassurance is kind, but it would not stop me from dying should something bad occur.” Her heart was pounding, her legs quivering at the mere height they stood at. “Alright. There is no other choice, so…so we must…do not let go of my hand.” To give it thought would mean fear would take over, so without as much as a breath, she ran forward and jumped from the edge of the cliff.

The vampire gave her hand a light squeeze, and brought his other to her cheek, stroking it gently. “As long as I am here, you will not be harmed. I will not let you go.” He gave her a reassuring smile, before averting his gaze back to the cliff edge, and followed her step as they jumped off it. He could feel the resistance of the air against his body, the thrill of the danger, the adrenaline that filled him at that moment before they hit the lake. As he came back up to the surface of the water, he looked around him in search of the other, and once he’d found her again, he pulled her in, his arms wrapped around her tight. “Good, everything’s ok, you’re safe. And you did it.”

“But why? What’s the point of this whole thing? I’ve never even done anything to you?” She scowled at him, “You know you’ll die for this right? My friends will find me.”

“It’s better if you don’t ask questions dear, I hear that you like to cling on to your emotions, and I’d really hate to hurt your feelings by saying that I quite frankly don’t care about you at all, except for the fact that the Mikaelsons need you, and I am determined to deny them what they need. As for your friends? Let them come.” He laughed cruelly. “They don’t stand a chance.”

“This is insanity! You are aware humans are very fragile? Jumping from a cliff - whether there is a lake at the bottom or not - is dangerous. How will this prove I am worthy of immortality?”

“Well, you must be brave Erina, if you are to survive this life. It is not as simple as you may think. There are many sacrifices that you must sometimes make, and I don’t only mean your own personal sacrifices. If you cannot be brave, guilt will devour you and you may not make it for very long. You mustn’t worry, it is completely safe, and I will be right there beside you the whole time.” He said, giving her a small smile.

“Actually dear, I do. Don’t worry though, I’ll try my very best to make it as painless as I can.” He said with a chuckle. They were both well aware that he couldn’t give a damn about her.

His eyes rolled as the taste of bitter acid seemed to creep into his mouth. “You can certainly try but we won’t let you.” Erik told him with a laugh that told the man he didn’t take him very seriously at all. His confidence meant nothing to the son of an original and the child of hell. Suddenly he understood his aunt all too clearly now. Did the man who tried to taunt him? “Do you even love her, I wonder? Do you even know her at all? She’s still a Mikaelson.”

Lucien let out a laugh that was meant to intimidate. “Don’t worry child, I’m not coming for you just yet. I’d be stupid to do that. I’m not quite as strong as I’d like to be yet.”  His next question seemed to somewhat irritate the ancient vampire however. Still, he didn’t let it show with his clearly smug grin. “I do know her. Very well in fact, although I’ll spare you the details..” He said, taunting.

A low chuckle escaped her lips at his playful threat– well, it sounded playful. She still wasn’t sure. “You know what? That sounds fun.” she taunted, pulling away from him with a grin on her face and plopping back on the couch. “Fine. It’s called Split– it’s sort of horror, though, honestly– I’d call it a drama.” she shrugged “It’s really cool– this guy kidnaps 3 girls and he has multiple personality disorder– about 23 of them. It gets a bit graphic but I liked it.”

Lucien grabbed her face in his hands as she taunted him and placed a short, yet hard and longing kiss to her lips, trying to get her to speak. “Hmm, a guy who kidnaps girls who has a multiple personality disorder...when in hell did they make this movie about me?”

“Guess what else I got from her.” he told the strange little man, bored already with this conversation and annoyed that he had found a place that not even his parents had known of. “Almost is not a win. Almost does not end wars or accomplish anything. If anything I’d say you’re lazier than they told me you were.” Perhaps Erik should not tickle the beast but the boy didn’t care when it came to threats – past and present – alike. “I have three aunts. You’ll have to be specific. The badass witch, the cuddly and slightly psychotic vampire or the very psychotic vampire who is surely reuniting with my other also psychotic uncle, back from the lovely dead.”  

Lucien chuckled, still amused by the boy’s big talk. He was well aware how strong his family were, and quite frankly, he did not care. He would get his revenge either way. “No, but what it does mean is that victory is not out of reach, and this time, I am quite determined to get what I want.” He spoke with confidence, having no doubt that he would succeed in his mission. “The badass witch, that would be. Quite a good catch, wouldn’t you agree?” He taunted.

“Well well well...look what the tide brought in.” Lucien spoke, though not in his usual sarcastic manner, but more stunned.

“But you’re wrong,” she pulled against his grip, “The Mikaelsons don’t care about me anymore,” she had to get away, there was no way she was going to be the victim…again. Breaking free of his grasp, she touched his face, using the vervain bracelet Kai had given her to burn him and turned on her heels to run away from him.

Lucien laughed, sinister as he watched the foolish girl run. It didn’t take him two seconds to appear in front of her again, grabbing her arm even tighter than before, though not in anger a her foolish actions, but rather entertained by her ridiculous attempt. “You didn’t seriously think you could run away from me now, did you?”

“Absolutely.” the blonde confirmed. This couldn’t have been easy for Lucien, she knew that. For centuries on end, Synn had been the only person loyal to him. His family, his daughter, his friend. Letting her go must’ve been quite possibly the most difficult decision to ever make. “Well, I’m glad you did it. You offered your daughter a chance at happiness– I’m sure one day you’ll see the good in that.”

A chance at happiness...Lucien repeated to himself in his head. Yes, he was doing the right thing, she was right. This was for the best. For the best of Synn. And perhaps it would be good for him too, to see her happy. “Ok.” He took a deep breath, as if he still couldn’t comprehend the fact that he had actually done it. “No, tell me about this movie, or I’ll have to get it out of you.” He raised an eyebrow in a challenging manner, teasing.

“Why are you doing this?” She tried to break free, but her human strength was nothing against his supernatural grip. “Where are we going?”

“Because you, my dear, are valuable to Mikaelsons, which makes you extremely valuable to me.” His voice remained calm, but with a note of aggression to it. “My place. I’m sure you’ll love my basement.”

A wide grin soon replaced the smirk playing upon her lips. “I’m not telling you anymore.” she taunted– though not for very long as his next words caused her to jump right off the couch. “What?” she asked, almost as if shocked he’d actually gone through with it “That’s– that’s amazing.” the woman chanted, grabbing Lucien’s arm and pulling him into a hug. “I’m really proud of you right now.”

Lucien was startled just slightly when jumped off the couch in such excitement. Her embrace took him by even greater surprise however. “It is, isn’t it?” He asked as his arms wrapped around her form in return. It was as if he needed confirmation that what he did was indeed good, and the right thing. “I’m still not entirely sure how to feel about it.”

“ Rude.” Freya fake pouted “ A clever with doesn’t dwell on past practices– she searches for more, learns more– preferably new things. But since you’re so disappointed in me, I won’t tell you about this amazing movie I’ve watched.” she grinned, head tilting to the side the slightest bit “Oh? What was it?”

Lucien rolled his eyes in a teasing manner. “Alright, out with it. What was that amazing movie that you watched?” Lucien wasn’t sure if he was ready to speak of his actually good for once actions out loud, but with a deep breath, he began to explain. “I decided to let Synn go. To set her free, let her be with that Saltzman fool. “

“I’m note entirely sure how that works but then again, I do not possess much knowledge of the villain vocabulary.” Freya taunted playfully. “Ah, boring. The grimoires you brought are.. uhm, a bit outdated? So I watched movies instead.”

“Freya Mikaelson, you disappoint me. I thought a clever witch like yourself should understand the value of outdated grimoires.” He teased. “I actually did something...difficult today.” He said, on a more serious note this time.

Synn froned and stared back at him tears forming in her own eyes. “Idon’t want to be free. I don’t have any intention of going anywhere. I just want your permission to be with him. You’re not loosing me. I will always be here. I just need a little more slack.” She decided to take the risk and pull him in for a hug. Wrapping her arms tightly around him like she used to when she was a girl. She couldn’t help but miss those days when he still pretended they were normal. When he tried to give her a normal human Christmas with a tree and everything. She couldn’t imagine her life without him and she knew he wasn’t going to give up on his revenge and she wasn’t going to let him walk into danger without her.

Lucien decided to embrace the unexpected hug, as he eventually wrapped his own arms around her form gently. He wasn’t expecting those words to come out of her mouth. He expected her to run away like the plague as soon as he gave her the opportunity. He wouldn’t have blamed her either. “Thank you.” He whispered into her ear. “Your company will be much appreciated.” He said, his throat getting tighter, but her refused to cry. He was Lucien Castle, for god’s sake. “You are my greatest success. And you are free to be with whomever you wish. But he steps one foot out of line again...and I’ll have him.”

“I’ll take what I can get.” Freya chuckled, her palms pressing over his chest in return “So, how’s your day been other than utterly disturbed by my brother’s social status?”

Lucien pressed a small, soft kiss to her lips. “Absolutely horrendous. Which in villain words means wonderful.” He laughed lightly. “How was your day, big Mikaelson?”

Freya chuckled lowly “You have a very odd way of making conversation.” she pointed out “I think what bothers you is that he, of all people, is that. In my opinion, he’s doing a good job– but I’m sure you’ll disagree.”

Lucien rolled his eyes, which ended in a mischievous little smile on his lips as he wrapped his arms around her waist. “Only because you are so very adorable will I let that one go.”
