100 Archetypes Challenge: 2. eldritch town
rubyredsiren:
Aaaand there it was, the one question she’d hoped they wouldn’t ask. “Nnnno? But I wudn’t meanin’ to stay fer long, so I figured nobody’d notice.” She shrugs almost sheepishly.
“Maybe I was just bein’ uneasy fer no reason. I doubt there’s anythin ‘round here besides dirt an old stuff.”
“In an area where our kind once thrived? We hardly doubt it.” There were many reasons other Guardians could still be lingering around, and even more reasons as to why they would just attack out of the blue. They were each made with specific purposes in mind; the Guardians were just security automatons. “Perhaps it might be best to leave before we’re proven wrong about being alone.”
pseudosiren:
“… Yeah? You and me both.”
It didn’t help, really, only succeeding in dredging up all the feelings she swallowed so the Raiders could keep going. That only made her more bitter, angrier at herself and the order of the universe that decided it was okay to take Maya.
“She told me to be ready. Guess I let her down on that too.”
Seeing the look on her face, the Harvester knew that this conversation wasn’t helping her, despite knowing that she needed to hear their apology anyway. “Have you?” They lifted her arm by the wrist, pointing out the tattoos in the middle of her palm. “You saved your friends, did you not? That sounds like success to me.”
rubyredsiren:
Sammy almost breathed a sigh of relief as she felt her fall halt suddenly. For a moment she thought she’d activated phaseflight and saved herself, then glanced to where the gold marked being stood. She crossed her arms in a sort of pout, gently being set down from the telepathic hold.
“I was lookin fer whoever was lookin at me.” She turned to look up at the drop, it wasn’t that fall a far, atleast for the siren’s standards, she surmised she could’ve easily caught herself. Then she turned back to Harv, raising an eyebrow herself.
“But I guess ‘whoever’ mighta just been you, huh?” She wasn’t accusing, moreso just asking out of curiousity.
The Harvester blinked once before their eyes shifted to the immediate surroundings. “We have only just gotten here, so we were not spying on you, no.” They shook their head and stood taller. “Did you tell anyone you were coming out here?”
Little drawing! (of @melvnin on insta, I’ve been informed! She’s gorgeous hello hi)
Kintsugi (”golden repair”/”golden joinery”) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with gold.
I love the philosophy behind it that the more times we break and are repaired, the stronger and more beautiful we become.

@rubyredsiren reblogged from here:
Always there at a moment’s notice, the Harvester simply waved a hand and stopped Sammy’s fall. They could easily tell them how reckless they were being, that they should know better than to play around in ruins like these, but what purpose would that achieve? They weren’t a parent. Despite wanting very much to be one. Slowly, they lowered her to her feet with a practiced half-smile and a slight raise of their eyebrow. “You weren’t looking where you were going,” they said calmly, eyes shifting upwards to where she’d fallen from.
‘ you have a nice laugh. ’
“Oh- you think so?” Akachi felt her face warm a little, no one’s really complimented her on her laugh before. “I never thought of it like that.”
“It brings warmth to your face and kindness to your eyes.” The Harvester didn’t really know how to laugh themselves, so it was intriguing to see humans perform it so easily. “It’s almost like a song.”
((Kinda sorta dumped the rest of Harvey’s old drafts. So HMU if you’d like a new starter or if you want me to send a meme in your inbox))
pseudosiren:
“Yeah there was!” It didn’t take much to set Ava off, throwing her hands into the air furiously.
“One of those stupid Calypsos could have eaten it! Or– or– Or anyone else! What do you know about it anyway?! You weren’t even there!” Her hands fell limp at her sides again as she scowled into the distance. When she spoke again her voice betrayed her look of rage.
“It didn’t have to be Maya.”
“We weren’t. Not physically.” As for the Calypsos, getting rid of them would have passed that awful powers of their onto someone else, and that wasn’t a power that could be contained easily. It had taken a Vault itself on a forgotten planet to contain Nyriad’s power, and there was no one left to re-do that process. “If it helps, we’re sorry that it was.”
((oh look Harvey’s still alive))
hannah-the-small:
Unexpected
James listened, taking a swig of his own drink as he took in this new information. He did however grimace a little at the mention of fostering… his little girl had a family.
“… So you’re here cos of Hannah? And what she is?” James asked, brows furrowing, “You’re… not going to take her away… are you? She has a family here, and while we don’t know everything about her powers she’s happy here.”
The Harvester’s expression remained the same at seeing the other’s twist into concern. “We would never do such a thing. What would be gained from putting her distress? No, we wish to simply see what she can do and offer any assistance in keeping her on the right track. If that is acceptable to you, of course.”
rubyredsiren:
After a moment, Sammy pulled away from the hug. She’d noticed the soft glow but hadn’t made any concern of it, glowing was just a normal thing for her to see nowadays.
“Ah well, business is good iffin yer business is makin arm ‘n leg replacements.” She gently nudged, a wink and a smile curling on her lips. “Granted their mostly donations to the good doc, but-“ she raised her hands with a sense of ‘who cares?’ to her. “-sides, I still got the scrap shop back home an’ Ma said she’s fine wit me workin fer her.”
The Harvester couldn’t help but crack a small smile at the explanation of her affairs. “You are giving back. A good endeavour for those who cannot. Do you design them yourself, then?” They had never had the misfortune of losing a limb; the way they were built ensured that such losses could be regrown over time. “And your powers? You’ve been putting those to good use as well, we suppose?”
"And what did you do when all this took place?"
“The only thing we could do. Stand and watch.” Against their better judgment, of course. It was difficult for them to sit by idly while the Hyperion CEO performed such horrible experiments on his own daughter, one of their “children.” Interfering just hadn’t been in the cards yet. If that earned her ire, they would face the consequences of it.
eridiumangel:
It was a weighty question, one Angel had no ready-made answer to. Scraping by on Pandora had turned into something more, but there hadn’t been much intention going into it. The market was an opportunity, the first one she’d stumbled across that offered both security and anonymity, and taking it had given her the chance to learn to stand on her own.
“From here?” She echoed, sighing into a long silence as she thought. There was no long-term plan, only bits of ideas or things she hoped to achieve some day. She wanted to be free of her eridium chain, but worried she was too far gone to ever go back. She wanted to be stronger, to learn the scope of her powers beyond the limitations placed on her. She wanted a life she didn’t want to leave.
“I want to help make things better. I try to help now, however I can. I owe Pandora and its people that much. I guess… I didn’t expect to have a future to plan for, but I can help put things back together.”
That was enough of an answer for the Harvester, as they hadn’t expected a solid plan for the future. How could she, with the weight of everything they had shown her? “And we’ll be there to help you as best we can. When you need it, of course.” It was only a guess that she would find the right path on her own with their guidance, until she felt they were no longer needed. It was the least they could do to make up for everything.
The finale
rubyredsiren:
“It’s been somethin, that’s fer sure.” Sammy replied, wrapping her arms around them, momentarily forgetting they weren’t human. “Aside from them remainin’ cultists and the occasional fanatic, I’ve been awful pleasant.”
She pulled away from the hug. “But I’m sure what I’ve been doin is small potatoes t’yer schedule, how ya been?”
It took a few seconds before The Harvester returned her hug, still not used to many of the regular human gestures. In response, the gold on their skin glowed lightly. “My schedule remains the same.” After all, what was a schedule for a being that seeminly lived forever? “Your ‘small potatoes’ are doing quite well.”
