“Last summer I did this whole 9300 mile road trip just by myself in my little car. And I stayed at one Airbnb the whole time, and I met up with friends that I had known through the years and met some people I had never met, and they were so accommodating because they saw someone on a journey. And I think that warmed my heart a lot. Because it shows that life is not all people just ‘liking’ things from a distance. 

I think maybe that’s what I’m most curious about in life, other people. I wanna learn about their lives, be exposed to their environment, see what their dreams and ambitions are. Especially when you go out on your own, you open up that way. And I think that road trip was an important lesson in learning that people online are real humans and they live a different life than you do. People always asked, ‘Why don’t you just fly to New York? Why drive all the way?’ And if you’re asking that question, you’re not living the same style of life that I try to live.”

“I took over my family classical music publishing business three years ago when my Dad fell sick. He ended up passing away, but he created an amazing catalog of over 500 pieces. Often when a composer passes away there is a bit of publicity initially, but then things die down. It has been important to me that this doesn’t happen with my Dad’s music. Since then I’ve made the business more profitable, which I care about because most of it goes to my Mom and in the last two years his music has also been nominated for 4 Grammys, which is a sweet thing I’m proud of, although it is bittersweet happening after he has passed away.”

RIGHT so when I started my sociology course in college, my teacher stated us off with 

‘well I guess we have to do icebreakers. i’m Jon, and I fear bears. why do I fear bears? because bears can run at 30 miles per hour and Chester Zoo is 30 miles away. that means a bear can be outside this door in an hour. why would a bear be here? because they can smell fear and I fear them.’
