Okay, studying is hard.
But it’s even harder when you’re suffering with a mental health issue.
That’s why here are some tips for you
( Sorry for the bad english btw)
Calm down
Okay, so go put your comfortable clothes on and get yourself a cup of tea or whatever you want.
You can also wrap yourself into a nice blanket or cuddle a pillow while studying. Everything helping you to calm down is alright. Only start studying if you’re feeling okay otherwise you can try to pamper yourself.
( Here’s another masterpost which might cheer you up)
Planning
Try to split up your work in really short periods. You’ll feel a lot better when you don’t think you have to do it all at once. In this case start studying as soon as you can this will make studying more relaxed.
You can also make a small daily aim.
Flash cards
Flash cards are an amazing way to keep things in mind! You can re-read them everyday before you go to bed or look at them if you’re getting anxious right before the test and are about to forget everything. It’s a great way to remind things and you can calm down, knowing you can always look at them, when you’re unsure.
Intervall
This is especially good if you are learning vocabularys.
First sort your words in groups ( verbs, nouns, adjectives or just general topics)
Now start of with one of these groups. You are going to learn 5 words for the beginning. If you’re struggling with learning by heart you can try this:
Read the first vocabulary. Try to think of a story and connect it with the word or try to think of where you can find the vocabulary in your life ( like when would you use this word in real life). This should help you to remind the meaning of the word. After you learned your first vocabulary go over to the next one. After you learned the second one start of by asking yourself what the first one meant again. Just follow this pattern:
After learning the first block you deserve a short break. Drink something or just relax for two minutes. After that you can go on learning as long as you want to. But don’t forget to use this pattern for the different blocks as well.
Just repeat the first block after you learned the second one. After the third block repeat all the vocabulary you learned before
Mind maps
Mind maps are amazing for structuring your subject.
You can create your mindmap at the first day of studying and learn one topic a day.
Notes
If you like taking notes keep them as short as possible or try to bring the information into a diagram after taking notes. It will calm you down if you have something you can look at and remeber things, just by one look.
Check Your Mood
This may sound funny but ask yourself if you’re okay with studying whenever you are taking your breaks. If you’re not feeling well you should stop studying. Your mental health is more important than school, okay?
You can come back later or tomorrow. (This is why it’s important to split up your work in really small sections)
Take Breaks
Take breaks regularly! I recommend a short break every 15 minutes. After one hour you should pause for a longer period of time. If you’re sleepy you can go and have a nap know.
Be proud
Because I am! I am so proud you tried to study! This is amazing! Look at you! You can totally do that! You managed all this shitty schoolwork!
Pamper yourself
How about taking a hot bath or watching your favourite TV-show now? You really deserve a reward, don’t you?
Take a day off
You don’t need to study everday. You can take a day off just lying in bed.
Okay, that’s it. I hope this way helpful in some way. Feel free to add more ideas.
