I’m back! Sorry for the pause, first year exams and general life things took over! I finished my first year at Oxford University and passed my exams - I’ve been in Hong Kong for 7 weeks for an internship too; look forward to posting more study related content soon. I hope everyone is well, especially after A Level results day yesterday ! 🧡🧡🧡
Easter vac studying!
In celebration of term being over! - who are we kidding; this is what we do everyday. Hope everyone’s terms are wrapping up happily, it’ll soon be Easter but more importantly SPRING!🍃🌸🍃
Do you have an Instagram?
Hello! I do- it’s @molly.innes 💫
February in Oxford: term is nearly over already, I can’t believe it! Easter + home soon I cannot wait 💫
Late January in Oxford
The new library in my town just opened and has made me a teeny bit sad to be leaving for uni!
Busy revising! What kind of hell are January (mock) exams?
I really want to follow some more/new studyblrs!! Retweet please!! And happy 2018!💖💖💖
2018 manifesto to myself (posted on my blog- www.anorthernmolly.blogspot.com)
Hi! I'm currently looking for a part time job/weekend job whilst studying so I can earn some extra money and experience whilst learning. Do you have a part time job whilst you study? If so, how do you manage to tackle everything? Thank you 😊
Hello! Unfortunately the uni I’m at doesn’t allow us to have a job whilst studying, although they give a rather hefty bursary to help subsidise the costs. That being said, now it’s the Christmas holidays I’m working a couple of days a week in a department store. I think it’s a good idea to have a job, if you can find the time, during term as not only is it super helpful to have a bit more money, you’ll be able to use your time wisely in all aspects! Hope everything goes well for you💖
Hiii have you got any tips for staying motivated after year 11 mocks? I know I've not done very well in these mocks so I want to work my ass off to get good grades, but I just feel so tired and I don't know how to get back into the zone of hardcore revising!
Hey!! I always tried to stay motivated by thinking about why I was doing it! So, why do you want to get ‘good’ (whatever good is) grades? Year 11/GCSEs are important, but try not to stress them too much. A good thing to do is try stay healthy both mentally and physically during exams and prep, as this will make revision a lot easier and focused! Best of luck⭐️
The Christmas vac is very much underway and I wish I could say the same for my vac work! Enjoying it whilst I can 🌟
Hi Molly, I'm in my first year at York studying English Literature and I've just been feeling a little bit overwhelmed with the workload and trying to do everything although I have been but I'm pretty sure it's to do with being away from home too. Have you felt this way? I was wondering when you're studying a text, what do you do once you have read it? do you analyse everything like you did at A-level? what are your learning processes? I'm asking because I admire your blog&your motivation! x
Hey hey!! Sorry you’re not feeling too great about it, and thank you for reaching out to me of all people!! I’m not the most put together person at all when it comes to work (and everything else...) and often I’m trying to read the text alongside writing the essay for it! It’s no biggie. We are obviously both v passionate about studying, however it is so easy to let that passion turn into worry and stress and that’s not helpful at all. To answer your question, I usually read the text and make page specific notes alongside doing that. So when it comes to writing the essay, I have my own material to choose from. Same goes for critics. I sometimes go to the text again if I get stuck or if the question is taking me down a different path. However, I usually don’t do a great deal with the book after reading/making notes. I’m not sure if it’s the same for you, but I have multiple essays a week to do, so roughly one for each paper a week last term. So there isn’t a lot of time to worry about one essay too much bc you’re on to the next one straight away! Try not to get bogged down in it. University work is important but not as important as your state of mind and happiness! (And since first year doesn’t count and you only need 40% to go into 2nd year, you might as well enjoy as much as you can this year!) I hope you feel a bit better. Enjoy Christmas! And feel free to message me off private if you fancy! X
My first term at Oxford finished last week. I’m still trying to process everything and try relax a bit before I tackle my huuuuuge vacation work and reading. I’ve more to say but I will probably do that in a different post. Hope everyone’s term/year is going well as things begin to finish! ⭐️
Hi I'm a Freshman at high school and I really want to go to Oxford and study English! I was wondering if you have any advice about what I should do to get there? Thank you I love your blog so much !!!
Hi! Thank you for reaching out, that’s amazing. The main thing I can say is you have to love your subject and want to learn! A willingness to listen and work hard is hugely important, particularly with a degree such as English. Read widely - not just in the sense of reading lots, but be aware of what you are reading. Think outside of the box but also think about what’s in the box and why. An English degree is exciting, and fortunately for myself my tutors here at Oxford set us obscure and untrodden texts that we can really get to grips with and be the critics of ourselves. I’m rambling now and need to sleep; if you have any more specific questions send them my way x
