I have a headcanon that romana 1 had very bad depression spells on her travels with the doctor. The doctor did their best to help her out when they could. the tardis even made a room for her if she ever wanted to use it (which she did)
Adric is autistic, and he seeks out familiar things while he's aboard the TARDIS. He finds mathematics comforting (it's his special interest), and, because of his general discomfort in social settings, gravitates toward the buffet at parties. Tegan's cousin Colin is also autistic, so she understands how to help Adric when the Doctor is preoccupied or busy, and she's also not afraid to tell the Doctor off when Adric is overloading or on the verge of a meltdown.

A companion with severe spondiloarthropy has issues getting around the TARDIS because of the stairs and slopes and distances, so the TARDIS compacts corridors and flattens the area where they walk. She also makes sure that when they have to run the companion has a way of getting back quickly
The TARDIS finding out one of the autistic companions likes bees do creates a room of robotic and harmless bees for them to interact with
The TARDIS minimises stresses around the companions and the Doctor in case any have an anxiety disorder. If a companion has sensory processing issues, she guides them to a room specifically designed to help them
the doctor putting an extra room in the tardis for the companion to go to whenever they're feeling overwhelmed and panicky, and the tardis making sure the room is adaptable so that it can change to be whatever the companion needs to avoid a panic attack
the tardis making sure every bit of furniture in the companion's bedroom is attached perfectly in place so it'll never move and they won't have to worry about ocd before going to bed :)
the doctor putting the swimming pool in a completely sealed room so that his aquaphobic companion will never have to deal with random floods in the tardis
headcanon where the tardis recognizes the companion as having a mental illness before the doctor catches onto it and basically slaps him upside the head for doing anything to trigger him/her (personally I like this one best with eleven :3 )
headcanon where the doctor memorizes all the signs of a coming panic attack so that when his companion is about to have one he can get them out of the triggering situation asap
