𓆩*𓆪 she was silent in her way over the rooftops, nimble. her feet barely made a noise as they skittered over the roof tiles, the soft patent leather soles of her shoes swallowing every sound. a good thief had to be prepared for everything. soraya was nothing if not the best. before the illuminated bedroom window, she stopped and took her glass cutter from the bag dangling from her left shoulder.a silent scratch cut through the night as the diamond needle went to work on the glass, then the crystal clear window shattered open near the handle.plush lips pursed into a smile, soraya twisted the handle through the gap and opened the window with silent dexterity. she was in.

𓆩*𓆪 Lithe body pulled over the windowsill. her bag thuds on the floor as she scans her environs. the bedchamber looked exactly the way it did decades ago, prim and almost sterile. the thief gave a small laugh as she set into motion. grayson was a dangerous enemy to make, beautiful, yes, but dangerous and impossible to seduce. but she had a secret trick up her sleeve after all, something unexpected hidden behind her mask. how handy a secret identity could be. would Grayson recognize her voice? pointed fangs showed behind her lips as she smiled, dexterous fingers slowly opening the secret door next to the bed. maryam ’s staff gleamed in its hidden nook, clearly well taken care of by whoever stashed it away behind the wood panelling. she knew the sheriff would keep this formidable weapon close.a memory in the shape of so many polished gemstones lined with ebony. soraya closed her fingers around the staff, ready to make a run for it, when a muscular silhouette in the door alerted her to grayson’s presence. she startled, knowing what it meant to be caught red handed with her fingertips on the competent enforcer’s most prized possession and her face hidden behind her mask. even now, the woman was in uniform, but soraya had the advantage of a revelation she knew her old friend would find very interesting indeed. lush hips swayed as she stepped close to the sheriff, still holding the staff in her hands, smiling under the hood of her long midnight blue cloak.

𓆩*𓆪 “a strong, big enforcer like you and a little thief like me”, she trilled teasingly, knowing that grayson would not attack her right away unless soraya made the first move. “now is that a fair fight?let me make a proposal: you put away your weapon, I put down the staff, and you let me go. no one has to get hurt, yeah? it would be such a pity for your handsome face.”

Another thing that is so consistently good about Arcane is the total lack of male gaze in the entire show. The creators obviously had to use the character design for some of the characters that included skimpier outfits (Jinx's outfit, and the female Enforcer uniforms) but at no point did I feel like either Jinx or Caitlyn were sexed up. Jinx's outfit seemed to fit her character and wasn't used to sexualize her at all, and Caitlyn wore more practical clothing any time she was left to her own devices/not in the enforcer uniform, giving the impression that the enforcer uniform was more of a nod to in-world sexism, but not exploited as a vehicle to sexualize her. More than that, I thought the female characters were so beautifully nuanced in a way I can't really identify in any other big show or movie right now. Vi was allowed to be angry and violent and rough around the edges without becoming some anti-butch, anti-masculine-woman caricature. Grayson carried herself with a beautiful masculine dignity - reminiscent of the nobility of medieval knights, trying to do the right thing, pledging her weapon to defending her people. Medarda was drop-dead gorgeous but her political savvy was her most highlighted feature and her male love interest did not at all overshadow that aspect of her character. Sevika was allowed to be a tough, badass villain, and they didn't make her seductive or sexual, which are features that are so often highlighted in villainous women. I could go on but man, I feel like they're doing the most when it comes to doing their female characters justice. The more I think about this show, the more I find to love.
