because of the paw lack ( werewolf fathers having to take their sons from their human mothers 😔 ), karl knows absolutely nothing about his mother. not even her name. and because his father was murdered when he was 16 and left no other relatives / friends / associates behind, he never will find out who she was. but given joseph ran at the first sign of conflict and avoided attention, i hc karl got his readiness to fight and the need to be dramatic from her <3

for all his lone wolf talk, karl actually wanted to join a pack when he was around 13 ( after catching a glimpse of antonio and jeremy on a date fooling around; he wanted what they had aka friends and a home ). he felt it was only natural for a werewolf, where he belonged. he fought over this with joseph, his father, frequently. joseph told him the pack would kill them, only to be murdered in front of karl three years later <3 and thus started karl's resentment and fury. but given this man treats life is nothing is personal, he's repressed the shit out of everything and went around claiming the pack hasn't done anything to him.

when he joins the same pack decades later, he doesn't feel like he belongs or it's natural anymore. in fact, he treats it like a business transaction, doing his duties as a pack wolf but cutting the social aspect of it to absolute minimum.

              “If mine wouldn’t hold you, then they’re not really needed, are they?” she asked, innocently of course. This was an entirely innocent conversation. “What if I told you to SIT. Would you do that too?” Completely innocent.

              “That didn’t stop you THE LAST TIME you cuffed me. And pointed a gun at me. And locked me in that dreadful broom closet. Oh, you even gagged me with your scarf.” Was that the moment Karl has become absolutely smitten with her? Perhaps. Is her every jab and sassy remark ( always hitting right in his self-built armor and inflated ego ) making him even more smitten? DEFINITELY. His smile grows, amusement clear in his eyes. “Hmm. I don’t think anyone ever dared to teach me that command. You’d have to test it.”

Great, another accent. Must be one of Klaus’ pals…or enemies. She lost track these days. Good thing those weren’t her type, unlike some people. “Well, considering every other wolf here is someone I know and we all have a particular scent…” That of the Bayou, of course. “You kinda stand out like a sore thumb, Bond.” Sizing him up and assessing if he was a potential threat, she decided no move needed to be made. Yet. “You know, if you want to get acquainted with us, or need a place to stay, you don’t need to skulk about in the shadows. We’re not savages like some would have you believe. I’m Hayley.” She extended her hand, gaze level with the other wolf’s, still silently gauging him.

              Treading on pack’s territory is – well, kind of like treading on thin ice; only instead of freezing water, he could be met with fangs and claws and a punch to his ( entirely undeserving flawless ) face. The woman in front of him doesn’t seem about to attack anytime soon but he stays on his guard. “Thank you. Playing Bond is one of my most unrealistic dreams – normally, I’m on the opposite side of the law.”

              Her offer surprises him, honestly. Not enough to throw him off his game but enough to give him a pause. “Oh, I know. I’m civilized; it’s only natural the rest of us are, too.” Curiosity sparks in his eyes when she introduces herself. “Hayley Marshall?” Now that’s a name Karl recognizes. Perhaps the very name that has drawn him so far south, intrigued about the new Alpha that supposedly cured one of the nastiest curses Karl has ever heard of.

              “Karl Marsten.” He smiles as he gives her hand a confident shake. He keeps her gaze easily, assertive but not challenging. “I feed into all of the LONE WOLF stereotypes so I’m not really looking for a place to stay. But I’d love to meet you and your pack. You’re the subject of so many rumors these days.”

Suddenly, the house appeared before us, as if a magician had yanked off the covering sheet and shouted “Ta-da!” A two-and-a-half-story stone wall spread as far as I could see. If it wasn’t for the windows and gardens and front porch, I’d have mistaken it for some other kind of building. I’d never seen a house this big. When I stopped gawking, I noticed Jeremy watching me. He was smiling, not the forced smile he used with humans, but the crooked smile that crept up to his eyes. 

“We’re home,” he said. “Welcome to Stonehaven.”

glad you like the song suggestions! i love karl so much and i am SO tempted to buy the bitten complete series dvd and figure out how to convert the episodes into mp4s just so i can gif all of his scenes. my favorite one is either his introduction in “trespass” or…basically the entirety of his scenes in “ready” (also he didn’t die wtf were the show writers on) - suggestions anon

but omg i LOVE it. i’ve just listened to it for the first time and the first notes already were like ‘yup, that’s very karl’. and the lyrics!! makes me think of karl being the only mutt we know of to ever get the pack to grant him territory lmfao ( cains or stillwells don’t count cause it was not Pack Approved )
