I'm still slightly put off that this document wasn't sought YEARS ago instead of after I turned 24. Like. Yeah. Well, as they say, hindsight is 20/20.

We are #NotMssng!

Back in June, Autism Speaks announced that they were partnering with Google Cloud on Genetic research. There was an invasion of a Google Cloud hashtag event by autistic advocates and our supporters in response. Unfortunately, Google didn’t get the message. 

Now, Autism Speaks is having their own Hashtag event called “#Mssng” in support of the Ten Thousand Genomes Project between Google and Autism Speaks. They are asking people to take the vowels out of their usernames to represent the “missing pieces” of the “Autism Puzzle.” 

Be here’s the thing: we are #NotMssng! Autistic people are here, right now. We are not missing pieces, and are whole people just as we are. Being autistic doesn’t mean we are missing some essential part of being human, it just means that we need support and acceptance. Let’s let people know that autistic people are not missing anything!

Nerdy friends: I know I haven't been on in a while. But like our favorite high-funcioning sociopath, I've recently discovered that I have Asperger's/high-funcioning autism. As difficult as my condition has made my life, I'd never trade my autism for the world. It's a super power. It gives me extra sharp focus, great attention to detail, and so much mental strength. Yes, with that comes social difficulty and hardcore anxiety when I'm over-stimulated.

All autistic people from all ends of the spectrum deserve love and respect. Just because we don't function the same way as neurotypical people doesn't make us any less human. Just because we have communication difficulties doesn't mean that we don't deserve to be understood. Just because we don't show love the same way you do doesn't me we don't feel or need love. We feel the same emotions you all do (even more intensely thanks to our black-and-white way of thinking). We do want to be around people but it's just difficult for us, especially for people my age where "socialization" means going to bars and parties which have tons of people crammed into high-stimulus environments.

Give us a break. We're doing the beast that we can with what we have. Forget what Autism Speaks says (they claim to represent us, but they refuse to allow any autists on their board and use their funding for harsh "treatments" that have been likened to torture.) Stop trying to treat us for an untreatable condition and just treat us worth respect. Stop pretending that we're a burden. Just be a decent human being to us and we will repay you in kind in whatever way we can.

This is a summary of college only using two pictures; expensive as hell.

That’s my Sociology “book”. In fact what it is is a piece of paper with codes written on it to allow me to access an electronic version of a book. I was told by my professor that I could not buy any other paperback version, or use another code, so I was left with no option other than buying a piece of paper for over $200. Best part about all this is my professor wrote the books; there’s something hilariously sadistic about that. So I pretty much doled out $200 for a current edition of an online textbook that is no different than an older, paperback edition of the same book for $5; yeah, I checked. My mistake for listening to my professor.
