I walked into work on January 2nd, 2018, only to be pulled aside by management and informed that within 30 days, I would be without a job. The entire facility was closing, and my employment was going away with it.

The year started out rocky, to say the least.

But sometimes to make the changes that need to be made, life has to give you the push. I needed that push.

I took the savings that I had built and put it towards education. By summer, I had the certifications I needed for a change in career. By fall, I landed the job I wanted. By winter, I had stability again.

2018 will go down as a year of trials for me. It was difficult. It was stressful. It was uncertain. But through those trials I can say with certainty that I am in a better place than I was a year ago.

For that I am thankful, but here’s to hoping 2019 is easier all the same.
