This is Windows 7! >:(
It's always fun when your computer just goes dead with no warning. Did it overheat? No way to know, since it didn't show any error message when powered back on. Wouldn't a modern processor underclock when overheating instead of just halting?
SD card slot
Most of the time when I put an SD card in the SD card slot, it doesn't work. I have to reboot the whole computer to get the drive to show up.
I update this and it still says I need to update it.
System Update
The System Update utility (tvsu) never works. It shows updates, and acts like it's installing them, but then the same exact updates are still there when I run it again.
Also, when I click on "Get Lenovo Updates" in the ThinkVantage Toolbox, nothing happens.
Workaround: Download the Power Manager update directly from the website.
LCD
The screen screws up randomly sometimes, not displaying black correctly? The colors appear all striated and weird.
Solution: This was a driver bug. Updating to the latest drivers fixed it.
Sound
The sound from this laptop is just too quiet. You cannot make it loud enough. With a movie playing in VLC, and the main system volume turned up to maximum, and the Windows volume turned to maximum, and VLC's volume turned to 400% (by using Ctrl+Up Arrow), it's just on the verge of acceptable.
Touchpad
Half the time I touch the touchpad it doesn't work. Mouse Properties talks about a wheel, even though there isn't one. I've been using a Mac for a few months, and I don't like it, but the two-finger scrolling on the Thinkpad is absolutely terrible by comparison. Doesn't respond well and is all jerky. You have to keep your fingers a certain distance apart or it doesn't recognize the double-touch. Very disappointed compared to the Apple implementation (which I never thought I'd say).
Keyboard
It's hard to find the arrow keys without looking at them. I keep pressing the Back and Forward keys instead, sometimes losing data in my browser. Those seem like good buttons to have, but they really get in the way.
Solution: Just disable the buttons. Go into Keyboard Customizer → Key Sensitivity tab, and deselect Enable Browser Keys. Ah, much better.
ThinkLight
The ThinkLight is alright, I guess.
Shines in my eyes, though. It could have had a shroud to prevent the direct path from light to eyes.
Not sure if it's better than a backlit keyboard.
TrackPoint
The blue middle trackpoint button either works as a middle click or scrolling, but not both. This is seriously annoying. >:(
First impressions
I spent $1000 on a Thinkpad T410 (i5-560M dual-core 2.67 GHz, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1), expecting it to be a somewhat high-end product worth the extra money. First impressions:
Thinkvantage software is full of crap like "Free games for the holidays" and Bing Bar is installed out of the box
Screen is heavy and bulky, does not close all the way
Body feels flimsy and creaky, parts of the chassis were not snapped together properly out of the box
Lenovo's Welcome window doesn't want to close, but what does it want me to do?
Explorer crashed the first time I opened Uninstall Programs
The update software crashes even on a fresh, untouched computer
This keyboard is hard to type on. Will I get used to it?
Also the TrackPoint is hard to aim with. I don't remember it being this bad on my 600E. Can I adjust it?
TrackPoint and Touchpad both have poor acceleration and accuracy.
Power cord is kinda short and connected directly to the motherboard, which will surely break at some point.
