Police Shootings

After seeing videos of most of the recent police shootings, I keep thinking “No matter what race either side is, almost everyone in that same situation would’ve shot that guy too. What are people rioting about?” It took a while to wrap my head around it but the answer is actually simple: Many people don’t put themselves in police officer’s shoes and as a society, we disagree on what actions justify a police shooting.

Most of us see someone fighting with police and think “Wow, they’re lucky they didn’t get shot.” Other people see someone pull out a weapon and still don't think police should shoot them. 

From the time I was very young, I was taught to comply with police and what could happen if I didn't. The idea of physically fighting with an officer has never even been a thought. Whether I had a weapon or not, if I started fighting police officers I would EXPECT to get shot and rightfully so. I sincerely can’t understand how anyone can watch someone fight with officers, shrug off tasers, keep fighting, then reach into their car and NOT expect them to get shot. What exactly do they expect the officers to do? What other mode of non-lethal force should they have used? Clearly I’m referencing Jacob Blake but this applies broadly to most of the recent police shootings.

No doubt some people will read what I wrote and say: 

“Yeah, but they shot him in the back.” Yes, they did... while he was reaching for something in his vehicle after fighting with police. They have no way of knowing what he was reaching for and it take less than a second to grab a gun and shoot. Just look at the recent incident with David Ware. Police have a right to protect their own lives while protecting law abiding citizens from criminals. THE. END. 

“Yeah, but they shot him 7 times.” I can at least understand how some people may see 7 shots as excessive. I personally don’t but I get it. My line of thinking is, if I was in that situation, “How many shots are enough to ensure he doesn’t turn around and shoot me?”  Aside from in the movies, there is no use of a gun with an intent to slow someone down or incapacitate their shooting hand. If you pull the trigger, you are using lethal force with an intent to kill. Period. So, if you only shoot once and it hits someone in the head, they’re dead. Is that somehow better than 7 shots that don’t kill someone?  

 “Yeah, but they shot him in front of his kids.” Unfortunately, they did and I can’t even fathom the amount of trauma those kids will be dealing with for the rest of their lives. It’s sickening. But, who is responsible for that? The police? Or their criminal of a “father” resisting arrest and reaching for a weapon in the same car his kids were in? If Jacob was worried about his kids he sure as fuck wouldn’t have walked back to the car his kids were in while police had guns drawn on him. Jacob Blake doesn’t deserve to have those kids call him dad.

U.S. Politicians at the highest level treating Jacob Blake as a martyr and telling him they’re proud of him is so fucking disgusting. What exactly is it they’re so proud of? I would love to know exactly which action he took that is worthy of praise? The rape of his girlfriend? The stealing of her car and money? Resisting arrest while his kids watched? Putting his kids’ lives in danger? A man worthy of praise would speak out about his choices in life and how they landed him where he is. He would speak the truth and hold himself accountable for his own actions.

The Left has gotten so used to competing with each other over who can scream the loudest. They only hear each other because it’s what they immerse themselves in. Liberal friends, speaking openly at work, open/free speech on social media, the mainstream media promoting their agenda all day and night on the news.

They don’t stop to ask.

They don’t stop to sort out facts.

They don’t stop to try and see other perspectives. 

To them, everyone who disagrees is a racist.

The thing you and so many people on the Left are missing is the big chunk of us in the middle. The people who don’t just adopt one party’s platform and scream it from the rooftops. On the scale of Left vs Right, I’ve always fallen just to the right of center. So, based on a specific candidate’s platform, my votes can fall either way. Case in point, I was rooting for Obama in 2008 because I sincerely thought he could help heal the long term racial angst in our country. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Sincere credit to him though... holy fuck, he’s a great public speaker.  This year though, Democrats have drug the scale so far Left that I find myself much farther to the Right. So, am I much more right than left as it stands today? Absolutely.  Am I closer to Republican than Democrat? Also, YES.  That being said, I differ from conservative/Right wing views in a lot of ways. For example here are some major issues where my political views fall on the liberal side:

Religion in government: I’m not religious and I don’t believe religion has a place in schools or government.  

Abortion: I can’t say I have a rock solid opinion on abortion but I certainly lean more towards Pro-choice and if it came down to that, I would vote pro-choice.

Global warming: It’s a real thing and we need to get ahead of it before we end up fist fucking ourselves. 

Same sex marriage: Why the fuck should the government be able to tell two people of legal age who they can or can’t marry? I don’t believe the government should be involved in marriage at all.

The post office is in the shitter rn due to republicans back in 06. Forcing them to pay 75 years of retirement was like shooting the usps in the kneecaps. I appreciate your ask since it made me school myself in “Why is the post office broke?” and I learned a lot along the way. However, your message doesn’t really address what I replied to which was that people were comparing it to the military (which it is nothing like) instead of a government run shipping company (which it essentially is). If I’m mistaken, I’ll start looking into pricing for the military to take care of some issues for me. 

As far as Trump “withholding funds” goes, Democrats and the media have that headline spun like a top. I hope it’s already clear by my blog but just for the record, I’m not Republican. The Democrats want to fundamentally change the way we vote. That requires billions of dollars at a time when the economy is in the shitter and we’re already bleeding trillions. They aren’t asking for basic funding for the post office. It’s EXTRA funding for the Democrat agenda.
