Would you ever hook up with a friends ex?
Probably not. If the vibes were there I’d ask first
The Royal Portuguese Reading Room, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

everytime I remember that lesbian couple that have a marble statue of the two of them embracing and sleeping on a bed together over where their graves will be because the artists didn’t believe they would be able to be married before they died, so what they couldn’t have in life they could have in death, I fucking breakdown
memorial to a marriage; patricia cronin
“on july 24th, 2011- the first day that same sex marriage was legal in new york state, particia cronin and deborah kass got married. that same year the marble ‘memorial to a marriage’ was replaced with a bronze version. rainwater pools in the space between their two sculpted bodies, and falling leaves catch on the metal in the autumn. the two women sleep peacefully through snow and ice, and the scorching days of summer. over time the hands of cemetery visitors will wear down the bronze, burnishing it into a smooth shine. one day this will mark the final resting place of the two women. and someday people will have to remember that there was a time, long ago, when this was a memorial to a marriage that two women never thought they’d have.”

Jumping spider in Ecuador, Beata sp., Salticidae
Photos by Andreas Kay
Jumping spiders hit my “awwww cute!” button as reliably as baby hippos or whatever, and I wonder how common that reaction is, and where it’s coming from. Maybe it’s the combination of their compactness, the “fur”, and two especially big eyes - some spiders have small eyes or more than two eyes that are prominent, but the two big eyes on at least many kinds of jumping spider give them a superficial similarity to mammals. If this is common, should arachnophobes doing exposure therapy start with jumping spiders at any new stage in the therapy? Like, they look at pictures of jumping spiders before they move onto spiders with dangerously gleaming carapaces and gangling legs.
I am sure it’s due especially to the two big forward-facing eyes and also the lack of big long spindly legs. They’re much less alien-looking than many spiders. Plus they’re usually tiny. I absolutely recommend that arachnophobes start by looking at photos of jumping spiders when overcoming their fear!
