Summary: her and her best friend Edwin, go to sonic one night when she can’t sleep.
It was 2 AM and she’d been on her 3rd attempt of trying to force her body to go to sleep, when Edwin texted her that he was outside and they were going somewhere.
Just like that, with no warning, but then again, why would there be?
She knew better than to protest, 1. She knew she wasn’t going to able to sleep any time soon, 2. Edwin wasn’t asking.
He refused to tell her where they were going until she saw the big yellow, red, and blue sonic sign glowing above them. There were about 3 other cars parked when they pulled in, scattered around the lot, each one filled with people eating their food and talking.
They shared an ice cream sundae, sitting criss cross, facing each other, putting a random playlist on shuffle.
“You think we’ll ever actually find a planet capable of sustaining human life and humans will actually live there?” She said, taking a bite of the ice cream.
“Who knows, maybe, but definitely not in our life time.” He answered
“What if that planet is better than earth in every way possible?”
“I don’t know” he said pondering the thought, putting the spoon in his mouth. “I like earth, you live here.” He said simply, smiling at her. The glow of the menu next to him, lighting up his features. “We get to go sonic at 2 am here and have talks like these.” He said, going in for another bite. “I like our little world.”
She wasn’t sure if he was talking about earth anymore, but that didn’t stop the smile that had found it’s way across her face at his words.
“I like our little world too.” She said taking another spoonful as they both sat in the car, the music playing softly, as they smiled at each other, and time was something that didn’t exist. They were both so perfectly content in this moment, as simple as it was. Yet, it was more than enough.
