Usually weird huge rooms that stay empty and the shows are mostly only open to students. If they are open to the public it is usually too confusing to figure out how to get to the show for those unfamiliar with the campus. Also, no one ever seems to know that the shows are happening. Most of the time they are just a free campus activity and nobody gives a fuck that you are there.- derrick

This is sadly due to certain student/non-student run entertainment entities with overblown budgets that create no incentive for the shows to be successful in a traditional sense (promotion, attendance, reimbursement, proper planning). It follows that regardless of the persons’ in charge experience level if you’re given an irrational hunk of money without goals of at least breaking even those persons will be less inclined to do most of the necessary work that artist’s expect. It’s true. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE, DON’T WRITE OFF COLLEGE SHOWS - GO TO SMALL COLLEGES WITH LOWER BUDGETS. Use underfunded college radio stations (some at large universities) who have dedicated personnel thinking about outcomes. You will get a team who believe in the artist more - and will attract people in the community who believe in artists. You will get a sense of shared responsibility for the success of the show. You will get people who can appreciate the work and realities of being in the music industry in 2015 because they deal with them too. The pay may not be as impressive but it will be reasonable and the show will be better. aka - wknc881

Also our free on campus show with David Dondero was sick because it was still well attended and he got paid well because we came up with creative solutions to our budgeting woes CUS WE r00L let’s do a show together.
