It's Liberty Sunday: New Marines are given the opportunity to call home and speak with family members for the first time, since arriving to boot camp (July 17). . All 5 of us stayed close to home, the youngest scheduling the day off from work, not wanting to miss Glen's call. . Glen bumped into a friend from home (graduated in June, but completing additional training on the island) who insisted Glen use his cell phone to call home, rather than purchase a throw-away phone or wait on line for a phone to call home collect. . It was SO GOOD speaking with Glen!! We spoke for over an hour, and then his friend had someone take a picture of the two of them in real time and texts it to me, telling me what a good friend Glen is and congratulating us on our new Marine. . You guys, THIS IS EVERYTHING!! Thank you, SO MUCH, for your thoughtfulness, PFC Gonzalez!! You guys, this is it, it's Crucible Eve -- Glen begins the most intense and final training exercise since his arrival on Parris Island on July 17th! . At 2:00 a.m. tomorrow (Monday) morning, Glen and his platoon will begin the Crucible: 54 hours, 48 miles, 45 lbs. of gear, 36 stations, 29 problem-solving exercises, all on 6-8 hrs. of sleep, and 5 MRE's. . After successfully completing Crucible, our boy will receive his EGA (eagle, globe and anchor) and earn the title of U.S. Marine. . He and his entire platoon have worked so very hard these last 12 weeks, but these next few days are going to be grueling, and my heart goes out to the rest of my extended platoon family -- don't worry, our guys have got this 👊🏻Happy Crucible Eve! . Dad was rushed to the hospital and admitted into ICU, overnight. My husband and I drove down after work today, picked up my Mom, and were allowed to visit with him during dinner - he's being treated for pneumonia and very low bp, but he's stable for now and, well, we'll take it...one day at a time...right?!?! . I'll be honest with you, coming home tonight, I was feeling a little run over by life - then I walked into our kitchen and saw the beautiful basket of flowers...delivered right before we left for the hospital...sitting there in the middle of all the chaos, along with a card signed only with "I hope this makes you smile!" . So to the kind soul who gifted me with this ray of sunshine: Thank you so much...yes, it did...I'm still smiling...and duuuuuuude...you've got awfully good timing :)

These guys! This is one of my favorite shots; it was taken at the military recruitment center, during Family Day in April, while my Son was still a Poolee -- he signed up to join the USMC at the beginning of his senior year of high school. . Glen left for boot camp in July and has been gone for 10 weeks (can you guys believe it?!?), so his sisters canNOT wait until we drive down to South Carolina and attend Family Day together, where they will get to see and speak to him (FINALLY!) exactly 3 weeks from today -- DITTO!! #tbt #week10day4 #momlife #semperfi
