The Crab Nebula, discovered over 1,000 years ago by the Chinese. Nebulae are created when the pressure inside a star is stronger than the gravity holding it together, the star literally throws it's innards up across the sky (gas and dust mainly) at a speed of more than 4.8 million kph.
