update 12/2023: i don't know when i wrote the above but i've been drinking and my thinking's a bit cloudy so i'm trying to come up with other things that don't always seem finite to people.

i know one of the things that made me consider the finite-ness of things is the idea of "decision fatigue": decision fatigue is a phenomenon (as opposed to a diagnosable medical condition) where the more decisions a person makes over the course of a day, the more physically, mentally and emotionally depleted they become. i read a profile of a guy that wore the same outfit every day because he didn't want to use any of his mentally allotted decision making power each day on what he was going to wear, which is what made me aware of the concept.
