into the arena || larissa (open)
For the very first time since she volunteered for the Hunger Games instead of the proudish Talia O'Connor, Larissa thinks that maybe that wasn't one of her best ideas. She can't help but shacking as two Peacekeepers guide her to the cilindre that will transport her to the Arena. And maybe to her death.
She holds her breath and continues walking as if nothing bad were happening. It was her choice and she knew why she did it. For her parents, to make them feel proud of her only daughter, and for her, to prove herself that she was much more than what little her parents thought of her.
She's near now, she almost in front of the cilindre, which begins to open for her to walk in. Larissa tries to remember all the good advices of her mentors and stylists, all the things that her parents said to her before they said goodbye and all the training she's been doing her entire life. She wasn't one of the best girls in the Career Center, but she hopes that all her life-learning helps to keep her alive and do a good job at teh Hunger Games. She was clever, she run very fast, she's very good at hiding and, above all these things, she was determined to win.
Her thoughts broke as the cilindre closed around her, surprising her and forcing her to look above. There it was, only a few meters of where she was. The Arena.
The sunlight impacted of her face, forcing her to close her eyes, and suddenly the plataform stopped the journey. She opened her eyes and saw that she was in the middle of a meadow, with all her fellow tributes - who were making a circle around the infamous Cornucopia -, staring at the countdown to the seconds to go.
Larissa prepared her to start running as fast as possible, catch the first weapon or bag she founds, and running her heart out to the forest. She doesn't knew the rest of the tributes at all, at first she thought it was better that way, but in the Arena, she begins to regret that decision: Larissa wouldn't mind to have a friend with her.
The countdown goes to zero and all the tributes abandon their plataforms, running in several directions: ones go directly to the Cornucopia and others go to the forest, instead. But Larissa doesn't have time to notice them. She's the first to jump of her plataform once the time has expired, she runs as fast as she can and reaches to a middle bag, which a sword attached to it. Without thinking it twice, she grabs it and begins to run to the forest. At her back, she hears sounds of battle, screaming and maybe some of her fellow tributes dying. Maybe she should've stayed and fight for her life, but it wasn't neccesary and was extremely dangerous at that time. There'll be time for fighting in the future.
As she continues running across the forest, Larissa thinks about how quick she took a solid weapon and a bag with unknowns - and helpful, she begs - things, how she has survived the bloodbath of the Cornucopia, how she scored a 10 at the training. And Larissa believes in herself with more strength that she has did in her entire life. She's there, she has a weapon and knows how to use it, she's alive and she's still running for her life.
Maybe the odds were in her favor, after all.
