To the movies we go! (Continued)
The movie was almost over and Trish would do anything to miss the rest of it. She grabbed the bag from Dez. "I'll go fill it up. Just tell me how it ends." She jumped up and made her way out of the theater and over to concessions, feeling relieved that she was away from the screen. She filled the popcorn up and sat at a bench outside the theater, picking at it absentmindedly.
To the movies we go!
Dez was holding Trish on his back as they ran through the mall to get to the theater. Trish was still shocked that she was even on Dez’ back and was more focused on not falling than anything.
“DEZ! I’m going to fall!” She laughed out.
“No you won’t! I won’t let you fall!” He yelled back, still running extremely fast. Once at the theater, Trish let go and jumped down off his back and looked around.
“Geez, got here pretty fast. I’ll pay for the tickets. But you’re buying the popcorn.” She stated as she turned to the ticket seller.
“But Trishhh you said I wasn’t going to pay this time.” Dez whined.
The ticket seller looked between the two of them, selling Trish the tickets. He looked up at Dez. “Women never want to pay on a date.”
Trish looked at the ticket seller with wide eyes and a slight blush. “We aren’t on a date.”
Dez jumped in a moment later “Yeah, me and her are NOT together.”
The ticket seller shrugged. “From an outsiders point of view, it looks like you are.”
Trish squinted her eyes at the man. “We aren’t.” She mumbled. “Come on Dez, let’s go. The movies about to start.”
“Wait! I have to get popcorn and candy.” Dez went to the counter. He only had $15 and theaters are expensive. He definitely had to get a large popcorn and two large drinks, and that only left him with enough money for one type of candy. “Trishhhhhh, which candy do you want?” Dez whined.
Trish, already embarrassed from the ticket vendor’s accusations, immediately shushed Dez. “Shush, stop whining it’s annoying. And not so loud! More people will think we’re on a date.”
“Oh, right. Sir yes sir!” Dez nodded and saluted. Trish rolled her eyes. “So do you think we should get twizzlers?”
“What, no, twizzlers are gross. Are you stupid? Let’s get…” Trish surveyed the counter “milk duds.”
“What, no, you know I hate milk duds.” Dez made a face.
“Which is exactly why i want them, now I don’t have to share.”
“But Triishhhhhhh.”
Trish raised a fist. “Dez, do you really wanna see what I’m going to do with this?”
“FINE!” Dez pouted and threw his money on the counter. “But I get to make the popcorn cheesy.” He marched off with the refreshments ahead of Trish into the theater room.
Trish rolled her eyes, almost feeling bad, and then followed suit. She didn’t even like milk duds that much.
As she grabbed the popcorn that Dez had forgotten about, she felt guilty and made it the cheesy kind for him. She couldn’t understand what that nagging feeling was in her chest, she had only ever felt it when she felt bad for Ally.
Like when Kira told Austin she would be his girlfriend RIGHT after he kissed Ally. She felt it than. But not ever around Dez. Walking into the theater, she squinted her eyes in the dark, trying to find him. Finally she spotted him and made her way up to where he was sitting.
He smiled up at her, clearly already forgetting the fight they had just had. She tried to smile back at him, but could only manage a half smirk and sat down.
“Here, I made the popcorn cheesy.” She said, handing it over to him.
“Yay!” He yelled out, smiling wide and earning a few shushes from people around them.
They sat in silence for a moment, watching the previews. Trish reached over to grab some popcorn at the same moment Dez’ hand reached in, causing their hands to clash against one another. They both pulled back suddenly.
Whilst Dez was picking at his popcorn and obliviously watching previews, Trish sat there, fidgeting and tossing the unopened milk dud box between her hands.
“Hey…Dez?” She started, hesitating.
He looked down at her, cheese on his face. “Yeah?”
Suddenly the lights dimmed and the sound of the movie took over all the silence, leaving Trish’s words unheard.
Dez shushed Trish. The openings of movies were always his favorite parts. Watching how the camera panned across the scenery and the cuts to introduce all the characters, it was always a directing and cinematographic dream. A lot of times if Dez didn’t like the first three minutes of a movie he’d just leave. He wanted to only be inspired by greatness.
The movie started by panning over some daisies, and then it began to spin into their centers as each starting credit was given. Dez squealed and whispered “Trish, that’s symbolic, we’re going to discover people’s centers! Symbolism!”
Trish stared at the screen confused, mumbling. “They just look like flowers to me.” She crossed her arms and continued to stare at the opening credits-not really paying much attention. The opening credits were by far the most boring part to her. She didn’t get the random scenery shots that had nothing to do with the movie, or why they had to be fancy about the names and titles.
The credits finally ended and the movie started, forcing Trish to focus in on the big screen.
The main character in the movie began to speak, a girl name Hally. She was a bit awkward and only had one friend. She expressed in the first five minutes that she wanted with all her heart to be a pilot, but she had a paralyzing fear of heights. Already Dez started tearing up already.
Then the movie showed a guy named Houston, who had no fear of heights, but no plane to fly. That was until he found Hally’s out in a feild in the middle of nowhere and flew it off. Houston’s friend seemed to be a comic relief character. “I like that guy,” Dez got out while sniffling, referring to Houston’s bestie.
Trish rolled her eyes. "Of course you do." She mumbled.
She thought the whole plot was just too overplayed and extremely overused. She would be so much happier if one of the planes bursted into flames or something exciting and plot twisting. The romance was too "planned". She sat there, slowly fazing into her own mind, twisting her own romance story.
A guy and a girl. Completely different from each other. The two characters in the movie that you would think would NEVER get together. They hate each other, no no, they DESPISE each other. So the audience thinks. But in reality they have that "Burning Passion" mentioned in many of these love movies. And in the end, when those two characters finally come together, it's a shocker, it makes your heart leap into your throat, makes your stomach flutter with butterflies as you watch.
That's the kind of romance story she would watch.
