Listen. If someone tells you what a story is about, they are probably right. If they tell you that that is all the story is about, they are very definitely wrong.

#ThyCaptionBe: Special Delivery!
You captioned this detail. And we’re revealing the full story now.
Amazon Prime dragon? Baby Merlin? Floating torso? It’s actually the fantastical birth of Alexander the Great.
Here’s the full story:
Apparently, childbirth is no excuse to take off one’s fancy hat.
Given that Alexander the Great was considered the most successful conqueror the world has ever seen, it is perhaps not surprising that his birth took on supernatural overtones. Here, the dragon flying above the newborn and his mother refers to Alexander’s supposed divine origin: according to the Delphic oracle, the god Zeus seduced Alexander’s mother disguised as a dragon.
#ThyCaptionBe is a celebration of modern interpretations of medieval aesthetics. You guess what the heck is going on, then we myth-bust.

This eighth grade student just schooled her teacher about the body shaming legacy of the BMI
When a class assignment asked a student to calculate her BMI, an eighth grader wrote an essay showing her teacher why the BMI is an outdated, offensive measure of health. Read the letter after the jump.

Just in time for the first day of spring, the weather has turned gloomy (unfortunately). Silver lining: if you’re stuck inside this weekend, there are many amazing books to be found on this list for Women’s History Month (fortunately). So we’re reblogging for all our Tumblr friends who don’t need a reason to stay in and read, but want one anyway. :)
Unusable tomatoes are being turned into electricity thanks to science
Hecklers’ favorite fruit may have a new use. A team of researchers have found a way to render unwanted tomatoes into biofuel. They presented their findings at the National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society in San Diego on Wednesday.
The group built a microbial electrochemical cell that can pull an electrical current out of tomato waste using an oxidation process.

Stand-alone fantasy novels are beautiful things. You read one book, and get one complete story, with all the resolution you need. You can close the book with a satisfying thunk at the end, knowing that the characters have completed their journeys, and that all the ends are more or less tucked in neatly.
If you like your fantasy to come packaged in one convenient volume, here is a list of one-book fantasies.
