punk saying cody needs to frame himself as the victim to beat the people he loves glosses over the people he loved did pretty violent things to him! kevin tombstone piledriver'd him and orton and rey mysterio, cena sold out to the rock and low blowed cody and travis scott blew out his eardrum, randy orton made him bleed buckets of his own blood! and cody beat them all, albeit becoming more and more traumatized each time.

cody's grievances with punk makes sense why he both loves him and it's hard to be friends with him. cody went out and actually did the things laid out in the pipebomb but the whole time the people wished it was punk, and he has to live with that. but punk clocked him that he's lying to himself when he said he doesn't like punk, cody keeps trying to create emotional distance between them ('you're not my brother', 'i don't like you') and punk keeps stepping over those boundaries ('this one's on purpose, little brother', 'you're lying to yourself')

I don't think this is a storyline that needs either to go heel yet and I get the sense in the overall story this match will end with punk retaining via interference, while cody has to go to the back of the line for his title shot when we'll see the effects of him saying he's addicted to the gold play out when an addict no longer has his rush or means to get to it, so the heat is intentionally lower. they haven't gone scorched earth yet.
