With a fairly modest background, Lynn was the eldest son for his parents, Hari Thomas and Sandra Ash. His parents never married, so his mother was the one to raise him and his younger brother. Despite not being together, his parents made sure that him and his sibling were provided for and Lynn was always close with his father. He grew up in a tight knit family filled with cousins and family members. They weren’t particularly rich as both of Lynn’s parents were common working-class in the city. As far as childhood goes, he was very happy.

Despite that, Lynn was placed under a lot of pressure to be academically gifted and be the first in his family to graduate from college, but he thrived under such pressure and soon topped in school academically. This drive did come at a cost for him. Because he was so pushed to be the best in his academics, he didn’t grow naturally into relationships or friendships with others, preferring his close relationship with his family then anything.

Soon after graduating from the university with a degree in Journalism, he landed a job at The Gazette, Vievecor City’s main multimedia news outlet. He became a part of the investigative journalism team due to his attention to detail and nearly obsessive talent for searching out the truth. In this naturally competitive job, Lynn had to curry favor, make friends (and enemies), break some laws (though he would never admit to them) in order for him to stand out. And it worked. After years of fighting, Lynn managed to become a top investigative journalist. Soon he was tasked to uncovering the darkest of secrets of the city.

Unfortunately, even with so much drive, Lynn was destined to burn out. Lynn deals with anxiety induced insomnia. He typically takes medicine to help with his insomnia, however, he sometimes “forgets” said medicine if he gets too busy. It was in this time that his life took a turn. He was in the middle of researching the ‘strange premonition’ he had about the city when he was hit with a large case of insomnia. When coming home from work, he ended up swerving off the road and crashing his car. He managed to get out with just a broken bone, a few bruises, and a scar, but he mentally he was left with more scars. He had to take a long sabbatical from work to get mentally back in a place where he felt confident.

And despite all of that, Lynn has always felt that something was missing. Despite its prosperity, Vievecor City was a cesspool of secrets and underworld dealings. He’s always knew that there’s more to this city than meets the eye. Even though most people believe he’s talking about the natural underbelly of the city, like organized crime and corrupt politicians, Lynn’s believes the city runs on more than that. Whenever he gets the chance, he does his own investigating into some common, yet strange themes the city has to offer.

Teddy didn't mind the lateness, however small the window of time was. In fact, he was perfectly alright with it because it gave him a moment or two to get comfortable in his surroundings and think. After all, he needed a story to tell Lynn; one which hopefully did not come close to his misadventures that week.

But the wait, it wasn't long.

Standing up when he was spotted at last, the author smiled from ear to ear and went in for a friendly hug. "You're fine, Thomas. You don't have to." His left hand went to pat his back and then Teddy was pulling out a seat for him. "Here. How have you been? Not too busy, I would hope?"

✦ ......... Lynn wished he had more time to prepare. He was prepared to speak on the other about any updates on his life. One of the main goals of the entire conversation was to get enough information of the famous author. Lynn could admit to being a fan himself, so he combed through his own notes with a fine tooth comb. But he was woefully unprepared for Teddy's gentlemanly charm. In comparison, the journalist felt like an rather awkward teenager.

✦ ......... "I've told you. Lynn is just fine," he chuckled sheepishly, "And it would make me feel better...and give me an excuse to order a drink myself." Lynn nodded his thanks for the other male's courteous manners.

✦ ......... He hid his own wince as the conversation immediately turned to him. Switching to being a freelance journalist has always been a sore spot for him. Yes, he wasn't nearly as busy as he was before, but now he lacked what sort of confidence that he once possessed. Still, Lynn smiled gently.

✦ ......... "Not at all. In fact, the festival would really be the most busy I would be in a long time. But all and all, same as always. Wake, write, repeat. What about yourself? How have you been?"

With the party getting closer, Peter had been convinced to join one of his friends in setting up the food trucks. There was a lot of prep needed and a decent pay cheque would be provided, so long as he showed up on time. The problem was, once Peter got the gate, he quickly realised that he needed a caterer’s pass to get further than the gate. 

“Fuck,” he cursed softly as the guard started turning him away. He opened his mouth to explain the situation when someone joined him. “Right, yeah. That’s what I was going to say,” Pete agreed, his thumb pointing towards the man with the badge. If he was with the media, then he might be able to get further inside. It wasn’t like he was there to cause trouble, he just needed a job. 

“Sorry, forgot the badge,” he agreed, nodding. Finally the guard looked like he was going to let it slide and leaved them alone for now. After all, he was just one guy, what was the worst he could do? 

“I don’t think I have anything interesting enough to interview about,” he replied. “But thank you, that saved my ass. I’m meant to be working but didn’t think about getting the badge settled first.”

✦ ......... Lynn waved away the other's concern. Undoubtedly, he should be concerned with allowing just a random person into the planning for the festivities. But Lynn, despite seeing how bad people could be, believed in the good of others. This guy looked like he just needed a helping hand and Lynn was in a helping mood.

✦ ......... "Don't worry about it. I can't tell you how many times I had to get this thing replaced because I lost or misplaced it. Names Lynn Thomas, by the way. Invest-...freelance journalist for The Gazette" Lynn winced at his own mistake for his once title.

✦ ......... Lynn's eyebrows rose. Didn't have a story. He's heard that before. He could be generous and just accept it as it is. Lynn certainly had interviewed enough to people to put together something. But, he never took a chance down. "You'll be surprised. It's not about being interested. It's about being real. And every human is about as real as you can get."

✦ ......... "Are you working one of the booths or food trucks? I've been trying to go one by one through them...not for the free food," Lynn joked.

It looked like it was going to be a quiet night. Gabbie hated it. Crime didn't sleep, it went into hiding, it built up like static before a thunderstorm. Something big was going to happen soon. She couldn't just sit around, but there was nothing to act on. So she went to the only safe place she knew at that hour.

The Lunar Heights Pub had a special place in her heart. It had been open since before she was born, and the atmosphere had always felt like a second home -- accepting, friendly, open. There she could get a smile from the barman and relax in one of the leather couches until sleep called her home or the bar closed.

"Lynn?" She was taken by surprise, the look on her face resembling one who'd seen a ghost. He was a bit of a ghost of her past. She hadn't heard of him in a long time, almost as long as she'd been off the force. At first, she felt like ignoring him, she hadn't come there to be reminded of her life before it went to shreds. But his eyes tugged at her, breaking through the shell she'd carefully built up. She managed a smile.

"It's nice to see you too. Feels like another life almost..." Gabbie felt the emotions well up and looked away. "I'm just going to grab a beer. I- do you want some company?" She felt unusually uncertain, still taken aback by seeing Lynn's familiar face.

✦ ......... Lynn held back a wince. She certainly didn't look too excited to him. His sleep deprived mind could pick up on that immediately. And said mind immediately brought up the reasons why she may not want to see him. He knew. He knew of the fall of the former female police officer. Drug abuse, misconduct, violence. It was the type of story Lynn would have eaten up and spread out to the world. He didn't write it because he was dealing with his own problems. The journalist wanted to believe because of their good natured relationship, he wouldn't have. But even he couldn't ignore that before Lynn would have done anything to advance in his career. A twinge of guilt entered his conscious.

✦ ......... If she wanted to keep walking, Lynn wouldn't have stopped her. Just as much as she probably wanted to bury her past, their meeting dragged up painful memories for Lynn as well. His head throbbed. Memories of a screeching car, pressure upon pressure, suffocating thoughts flashed behind his eyes. But he also wanted to talk to her. He wanted to make sure she was alright. He felt if they parted without a conversation, Lynn would lose some part of confidence he was trying to gain back again.

✦ ......... "I know what you mean," Lynn agreed. An entire year certainly changed a person. He exhaled slowly. He had been afraid she would have walked away.

✦ ......... "I would love some company," he said genuinely with a warm smile, "otherwise I'll end up looking kind of sad sitting here by myself drinking. You'll be doing me a favor." He joked in hopes of breaking the unease tension that risen between the two of them.

Ayumu only remembered that he had a meeting with a journalist his PR team had set him up with about fifteen minutes ago when they finally woke up from a long night of partying. His phone had been ringing off the hook with missed calls from their manager trying to reach him and they finally pulled themself out of bed and only pulled on a pair of black Balmain sweatpants.

They just about finished brushing their teeth and ambled into the kitchen when they heard the pounding at his front door. Ugh. Where was his security team? Oh right. His manager had told them to stay out of sight so as not to interrupt this day-long interview where Ayumu was supposed to be putting on a show to clean up their image.

When Ayumu finally strode over to the front door, they had a mug of black coffee in hand and an unlit cigarette between their fingers when they swung it open.

"Lynn Thomas from the Gazette!" they greeted the journalist with what they hoped was a welcoming smile that came off more forced than anything. "Come on in. Was it supposed to be an hour ago? I thought we were only starting at 10 o'clock. And it's just Ayumu, by they way. You'd better not use my surname is your article."

✦ ......... By the time the door was answered Lynn managed to talk himself down from his own maybe justified anger. Perhaps the musician was busy (though considering this was planned well ahead of time Lynn had trouble believing that). Maybe they had rethought the whole story (if he had Lynn would like to have some sort of heads up). No matter what, Lynn would give the guitarist the benefit of the doubt.

✦ ......... Said benefit was thrown out of his mind when the door opened and Ayumu appeared. The celebrity looked like they had just woken up, only had enough time to grab a cup of coffee, and then walked to the door. It would have been slightly comical if Lynn hadn't the growing pulse on the side of his head that said this was how the rest of the day was going to be. Lynn inhaled slowly. It'll be fine.

✦ ......... "Just Lynn will be fine, thank you." His own smile was warm with the practiced ease of a professional. The smile faltered slightly with the rather assertive request. "I'll, uh, make sure to keep that in mind," he acquiesced gently. 'What's the story there?' Lynn couldn't help but think. Naturally he's done his prior research on Ayumu. The celebrity's steady decline in the public eye meant he needed someone in his back corner. Despite what he may feel about celebrities, Lynn couldn't forget that this was a real person with a full life behind them.

✦ ......... Lynn continued, "I should apologize for dropping by your home. I know we agreed on a prior location-" 'That you failed to arrive at,' Lynn thought. "But today is all about you. So what better way to start than in your own home...Though, if you're not ready," Lynn's eyes quickly dropped to the half dressed guitarist before meeting their eyes again, "We can reschedule."

Makena had honestly just been arguing with the security guard because she had knocked a half-finished display over and was refusing to help put it back together again. The display had been in her way in the first place and she was just about to raise her voice again when someone cut in and saved them.

"You're a regular knight in shining armour, aren't you?" she commented and flashed the stranger a grin and took in the familiar logo of the Gazette on the badge that he flashed. "Thanks, stranger. And sure, I guess. I suppose I owe you one now. What's the interview for anyway?"

✦ ........ A laugh torn from Lynn's throat out of his control. "If I'm a knight, then no magical sword out of a stone can save my kingdom." He hated dealing with any authority whatsoever. The journalist still can't believe he stepped in when he did. "Names Lynn Thomas, invest--....freelance journalist for The Gazette."

✦ ........ Lynn blinked. He threw the question out there just out of reflex than anything. He hadn't expect her to say yes. He shrugged his shoulders and gestured to the still developing festival. "Primarily, it's about the Ghost Festival. I want to know more about the average persons' experience. How are you preparing? What are you looking forward to? What sort of traditions you celebrate. Nothing too serious, mind you. It's not an interrogation, so don't feel pressured to say yes." Despite saying that, Lynn's fingers were already reaching into his bag for his reliable, small notepad and pen.

Virgil wasn't exactly trying to start an argument with the security guard, but a part of him wanted to strangle both the man and himself. His mother was in town visiting, which meant he needed to play her games and make nice with her. But she had very clear ideas for how everything had to be, right down to the place he got fish from, and that place was behind this curtain of security and blocked off streets. Virgil could've gone somewhere else, but she always just knew these things. She could sense it when he lied. And he didn't want to get on her bad side so early into her visit. He had to at least try to meet her impossible standards. And with his brother and dad not currently working on their fishing boats for the holiday, he didn't have anything he could take out of the fridge and cook up.

He'd been in the middle of a heated conversation with the guard for a few minutes when he heard someone else approach. Flashed a press badge and a weak smile, claiming that Virgil was with him.

Virgil shut his mouth and flashed the security guard a winning smile, walking past him to the press man's side.

Virgil froze as the man asked him if he'd like to answer a few questions. Was he in particular acting different than any other people around him? But he soon realized that the question was harmless. This person was just putting on an act. "Hey, thanks! You really helped me out just now. If I'd gone home without fish from that shop, my mom would kill me!" He laughed as if he was joking when it was, in fact, not so far from the truth.

He shifted his backpack somewhat awkwardly. Thought about how not to answer in a way that might lead them to grow suspicious of him. "An interview about what?"

✦ ........ Maybe he should have just kept on walking. After going back and forth with different workers for the festival, Lynn's social battery was lowering to a dangerous level. And it wasn't like he needed to have another interview. He just threw it out there because the journalist had no self-control apparently.

✦ ........ Lynn's eyebrows rose at the other's freezing. He managed to keep his mouth shut. The average person usually was apprehensive when a journalist tried to interview them out of the blue. Seven times out of the ten, they would say no. So the dark haired male was quietly surprised to the agreement.

✦ ........ "No problem," Lynn laughed easily, "My mother would have chewed me out if I didn't deliver too. But I think the fish shop owners are working on their booth right now. I can take you to them." And it would be a convenient way to prolong the interview just long enough to get whatever information he needed.

✦ ........ The journalist shrugged his shoulders in a dismissive gesture. "Well, I'm writing about the Ghost Festival for the Gazette. We would like to know more about how the average person is preparing for the event. What sort of traditions do you have, what are you looking forward to. Nothing too serious. Ah, by the way, my name is Lynn Thomas. Nice to meet you."

✦ ........ When there was an uneasy stir in the city, Lynn felt the unease reverberate through his own bones until he couldn't sleep. Or it could simply be just his insomnia ringing its ugly, dead head once again. But he didn't care to think about that, so he would put the blame solely on the festival.

✦ ........ On one such night, Lynn had stumbled more than anything into the bar. He didn't frequent them often, but when he had one of those nights where he just couldn't sleep, Lynn just walked into places that felt good. Lunar Heights Pub proved to be just that place.

✦ ........ He was two drinks in when he happened to see a familiar face. "Gabriella Moore," the journalist stated more than greeted. Around the same time he had his accident, he heard of the story of the former police officer being release from the force. Such a story had quickly circulated in the press. He was going through his own troubles, so he never followed up. But he remembered the officer fondly in the few, short times the journalist had to work with the police. Before unease could settle in his stomach, Lynn greeted the female

"Just remember...you love your job." Lynn muttered to himself insistently, "...and you have bills to pay."

If the journalist could kick his younger self for getting himself in this situation, he would kick himself twice. It was nothing but bad luck, bad decisions, and a life-changing accident that could make him even consider doing a vapid, celebrity puff article. And as it happened, such a thing did happen and now he was standing in front of the residence of the guitarist for 'Ore-sama.'

Despite having plans to officially meet mid-morning in an agreed upon location, Lynn had been waiting for nearly an hour before deciding to just come to the musician's home. He was ready to tear his hair out and he hadn't even met the musician yet. 'And to make it worst, I'm suppose to make this a day-long thing,' the journalist bemoaned. He inhaled slowly, counted to ten, and then exhaled. It'll be fine. He'll be fine. The musician could not be as bad as the rumors said. And if he was...Lynn was a journalist. He could spin it in a better way.

With the new mindset, Lynn pounded on the doors to the home. He glanced at the camera watching the door to flash his media badge. "Ayumu Nakatomi? It's Lynn Thomas from The Gazette. We had a meeting...an hour ago."

Lynn, as usual, had been watching. With only a couple of days before the Ghost Festival, Chissob Hills and The Shipyard was buzzing with promotional activity and setup. He was sent to interview a couple of volunteers, businesses, and workers just to promote in the festival in a new article. It was easy work. Within the hour, he had enough details and stories to create a fabulous, fluffy piece that the paper would be able to run for days. He was just about to leave when he saw it.

A security guard and someone else obviously arguing over entry. With the festival still being setup, it wasn't open to the public just yet. Only those with special badges. Lynn had almost forgotten his own badge when walking in. He winced in shared solidarity over the mere stress of not having access to a place he needed to be. Maybe that's why he said what he did.

"Oh, actually, they're with me."

Lynn flashed his media badge with a smile. A few tense seconds of silence passed between journalist, security guard, and accused trespasser. Feeling his lie wasn't getting him anywhere, he continued, "I need to interview them for the festival. I just...forgot about the badge."

Did he sound just as terrible on lying as he felt? Lynn was going to scrap the whole thig when the security guard seemed to be appeased and walked away. Lynn heaved a sigh and ran a hand through his hair.

"....I don't suppose you would be interested in an interview?"

As always, Lynn was just on the edge of being late.

Time management had to one of his most enduring skills. No matter how hard he tried, the journalist seemed to always 'almost' be late. Not late. He could never allow himself to be late for anything. But just on the cusp was where he stood. So that no matter the meeting, he always stepped a little faster just before he walked up.

Just like the other days, Lynn was rushing to this meeting. If he could astral project over his own body, the journalist could see the stereotype of the buzzing journalist, rushing to and from with his bag filled with papers to his next big assignment. It would have been funny if Lynn didn't feel like this was exactly what was happening.

'No, not exactly,' the dark haired male thought, 'This isn't an assignment.' And that was something a bit new. He couldn't remember the last time he had just a social call. Truthfully, Lynn didn't want to think about it. It would lead down a road that the journalist would rather leave untraveled. And if he was honest with himself, this wasn't too much of a social call either.

"I hope I'm not late," Lynn called out. He wasn't, but he did make the other wait. Lynn appeared all like the disheveled journalist though. He ran a hand through his tussled hair. He had no excuse, so he didn't try to explain. "I'll buy your drinks as an apology."

BIOGRAPHY Lynn had an average childhood much similar to the people around him. He had a large, loving family filled with cousins, aunts, and uncles. While his parents never married, he still found familial love that drove him to do his best to one day provide for them.

Soon after graduating college, Lynn was on the right track to prosper in Vievecor City by becoming one of the youngest investigative journalists for The Gazette. However, with that responsibility came the expectations and the stress that came with it. His mental and physical health declined until he had a car accident.

After the accident, Lynn didn't feel the drive to go back to the same job position. There was nothing really pushing him to discover more about the city. He found money by doing freelance work for the paper, but nothing as lucrative as before.
