"So I become your follower?" Makena could not help but ask because if she was willingly getting herself into this, she wanted to go in eyes wide open. "Are you some priest looking for his flock or something?" she asked, curious to know where this person came across his Ananke in the first place and just how long he had been doing this. Judging by the number of bodies, it was probably quite a long time.
"And yeah, I guess. No time like the present." Makena said with a light shrug and readied herself to be shoved face first under the water.
"In a sense, yes. I'll teach you all I know once you're a vassal too." He guided her to the water's edge. "I'm just doing what my Ananke requires."
"Your bravery is remarkable. The last person I did this to screamed like he was being murdered."
Virgil manhandled Makena until her face and body were underwater. He could see the underwater garden clearly from this vantage point. The bodies that were entwined within it, forever halted in time and staring worshipfully at it. And, he could also see Ananke down below. The god with two faces made a gesture, and the water spun around them, pushing them back to the safety of land. Makena had been given back. Virgil was grinning like a madman as he pulled her back to shore.
