all I do is listen to music and think about my silly little fictional people
Forget the Myers-Briggs fucking personality assessment. I am dead tired of hearing if someone is an INFP or an ESLQ or whatever. I want to know if someone is melancholic or choleric. Bring back the four humors. I wanna see “Kaley, 16, phlegmatic” when I go to someone’s blog. Who is with me. Lets make this happen
here’s a test i found. go wild, y'all. (im choleric.)
I feel like we don’t talk about this enough
Love how the whole message of the HH Dick Turpin video is “don’t romanticize Dick Turpin, he was just a criminal and isn’t worth glamorizing”
And then they had the audacity to style him like THIS
robin has been around for thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands of years. which means he's been around for every shift in language that we know of, and probably some we don't know about, since people haven't always written things down, and if they have, it wasn't always in ways that we recognise as writing because our current alphabet hasn't always existed. a lot of these changes were probably gradual, so he could more easily move with the changes and adapt the way he spoke and communicated with other ghosts who came and went after him. it likely wasn't a "one day he woke up and people were speaking modern english and he had to play catch up" kind of thing. he had thousands of years to adapt to linguistic changes, and of course, he's not perfect at it. i doubt anyone would be.
but i still wonder if sometimes he doesn't remember the 2020s english translation for a word and comes out with some unintelligible prehistoric language, anglo-saxon old english, medieval french, old norse, middle english, etc. word in the middle of a sentence, leaving everyone else like "what was that word?" and he repeats it, and nobody knows what he means, so he goes on this weird slightly-off description of what he means and then someone's like "OH YOU MEAN A WHEEL BARROW"
okay but what hurts me the most about Humphrey (at least at this moment)
is not that his wife pretended to not speak his language and didn't want anything to do with him ( there was a small "redemption" there)
or that the other ghosts ignore his head, not just letting him lie on the floor they also often don't answer him at all? They often only talk to him until it's convenient and often involves him being used as ball etc.
no,at this moment it's how much of a weirdo he must feel?
hear me out (fasten your seatbelts, I had two hours of sleep and I have a headache, it will get incoherent but we're doing this)
so one of the first things he ever mentions about his wife is that she never laughed at his jokes. And then we saw her not laughing it was not because of a language barrier she just found him unfunny? (can't relate "don't tell me how it ends" cracked me up)
So then he tells his story and for the first time instead of being ignored or made fun of the other ghosts pay him respect? but it's because they once again wouldn't listen and if they knew the truth we all know he would be the butt of their jokes even more? because it is a stupid death. It also turned him into a "weird" kind of ghost? like he is the odd one out. everyone else is still a full person whereas he can't even connect with his own body anymore which also seems to develop a mind of it's own so to speak?
so then before we get to the big part, this season when the others do finally interact with him we get to see what a terribly funny oddball he is? Like obviously we are talking Mr Cheese and his son cheddar. and it's so imaginative and funny and he really has a ball with it just for the Captain wanting to stop because it's too silly. I mean it's less weird than some of the stuff Mary comes up with (bless her heart) but with her it's always just like yeah bit too much imagination but well done. no one is like that's too silly I'm gonna go (as far as I can remember) . To be fair he has the captain as partner in the scene who's favourite word is probably balderdash, but I think even Mary and Humphrey wouldn't fit in those regards either because Mary just gets so lost in her imagination that they wouldn't play of each other at such a situation as improv? Back on tack however now someone talks to him and he gets to tell a story and blossoms into this character of mr cheese and it's basically too weird for the other party.
now the big one
at least two of the ghosts "get better along1 with his body than his head.
First of all the non elephant in the room. The Captain happily uses Humphrey's body to help him count stuff and he looks very content with it (the captain ) because in other situations here he has employed the help of the talking bit, he often goes back to ignoring him, or being abrasive? whereas the non talking body just does as it's told.
now the elephant
well we know right. Fanny found love with a headless body (probably made out with his spine uuuugh) and ya know and apparently the body consents (so weird man, upon rewatch kinda funny, but still a bit uncomfy) however there is this poor bodyless fella who learns that his body has an affair that freaks himself out but the others tell him that maybe he should get over himself and give it a try? and he's so lonely and he goes you know what maybe it is my chance for happiness. it's weird but his whole afterlife situation is and so he is yeah gonna give it a try. and then he gets rejected! in such a cruel way! like fanny is disgusted by the mere idea. the body again was fine but his "mind" was too much (yet again). and then even he body rejects him.
so again and again he is being outcast for his "mind"? for the way he is? and I feel like he must feel at this point like something is wrong with him that he is a weirdo and an oddball? because everyone is fine with his headless body but as soon as it comes to who he is, his mind, he's just rejected again and again and again?
sorry if this reads like basically teenage outsider angst,
but for once I just wanna see someone who doesn't give a damn about the body but is fascinated with the person that he is? and listens and laughs and doesn't physically hurt him or use him for stuff as long as he is convenient?
just show him some affection please and show him that there's nothing wrong with the way he is? because he is smart and funny and kind and a bit odd in the best way possible
Oh, what is wrong with me? Why does my heart pound? Who do I ache so? Mary, what is your opinion?
I loved Mary so much this episode she was sincerely so adorable literally this entire season I fucking adore her
Headcanons for Alison and the ghosts watching horrible histories
Alison
She hadn't seen the show before and put it on for the ghosts at the recommendation of Mike, who'd watched with his friends when it was airing. Given that it has a bit of everything in it and is all ages appropriate, for Kitty, and also has dirty jokes, for Julian, they both thought it'd be something good to distract the ghosts for a while.
Thomas
At first he doesn't think much of the show, it's all very low-brow, satirical humour to him - not high art like poetry or music. But eventually he starts liking it, until the Lord Byron sketch comes on. He's completely furious that Byron's in the show and almost storms out, but just before he does, the punchline is revealed and he realises it's making a mockery of Byron. It becomes one of his favourite shows after that.
Kitty
Kitty loves all the songs and watches the Savage Songs specials on repeat, trying to learn all the lyrics. She can't ever remember the Monarchs' Song right but everyone is really proud of her for trying. She was also scared of Rattus Rattus at first but now she thinks he's very funny and cute.
Pat
He really likes how educational it is, he thinks he would have loved a show like Horrible Histories as a child. But he ends up being a bit weirded out when the facts they use in the show don't line up with what he was taught in school because of more recent research. He still likes the show, especially the songs... Especially the RAF pilot song...
Julian
Likes all the 'adult' jokes peppered through. He also laughs at all the stupid deaths - eg. "haha, what an idiot"- as if his own wasn't also stupid.
Humphrey
He finds the portrayal of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I extremely funny, like disproportionately so. The song they sing together in season 1 gets him into 2-Tone Ska.
Mary
She notices that all the characters are played by the same actors and starts to think it must be the devil's work because they all share the same face despite being from different time periods. She also starts taking anything that the puritan characters say is sinful as such. So for a while, anytime she starts smiling or feeling happy she says, "oh no, tis sinful!" until Alison explains why it's not.
Fanny
She thinks it's ridiculous drivel and a mockery of history. She comes around a bit when there are some weirdly niche jokes that she thinks are actually a little bit funny.
Robin
Makes commentary about the small details that are wrong, eg. "that's not what Stonehenge was for", "celts didn't wear their hair like that" etc. Eventually he gives up and just starts mimicking the judges in the Masterchef/The Apprentice/Dragon's Den parodies.
The Captain
He really likes the WWI and WWII sketches but gets annoyed when they're not '100% accu-rat'. He also likes the Sparta sketches... Like a lot. He does plenty of clearing his throat and saying "good lord" when there's any degree of shirtless men on screen.
Bit of fun
15, 21 and 42 for ghosts ask
15) If you could go back in time and live in the house/on the property at the same time as one of the ghosts when they were alive, who would you pick?
Probably pat or Thomas. Wealthy gatherings or scouts would be my best bet. Also ngl kinda wanna just fall in love with Thomas at a rich and splendid party
21) Are there any historical periods you wish we'd have gotten to see a ghost/ghosts from but didn't?
They largely covered things but maybe some celts or saxons and romans before the Roman Empire fell. Or some Georgian pirates? Or some people close with Charles 2nd who wanna party, liven things up a bit. Or some victorians!!! Like what if button house served as a med school or something and there were Victorian doctors tryna do their quackery and public surgery.
42) If the ghosts could eat, what is one food you would like to share with them that they might not have tried before?
They wouldn’t have tried much or any junk. Sleepovers and film club but with Oreos and crisps and chicken nuggets?? Just vibin and snacking out while enjoying a google film with those clueless ghosts would be so cool
7, 22, 38 for the ghosts asks :)
(also this is simonfarnabyslegs btw)
7)
uhhh oh god all of them. But probably pat, cap or Thomas. I could live with losing kitty or fanny or Humphrey but I’d be so sad about it don’t get me wrong
22)
cap finally comes out. And more Julian being vulnerable and friendly. And more sassy Mary!!! Honestly just so much more friendly and soft and heart warming interactions so I can fall in love with the world even more.
38)
oh god I don’t even know. All I watch is stuff worth mat in it. Yonderland or HH to see the discourse over any inaccuracies or issues they have or parts they love for HH and just the levels of lgbt characters for cap to adore, and innuendos in yonderland that kitty and Mary might not get but pat and cap would. Also just imagine the ghosts singing to HH.
I don’t watch movies besides the six idiots Rn so sorry I haven’t got any original ideas.
For the ghosts asks, 36?
you didn't specify a character, but based on your url, i'm assuming you like our boy, thomas? ;)
one of my favourite thomas moments is when he finds out the film crew are going to be making a regency film, and he gets SO excited he screams "YEEESSS" and dropkicks humphrey out of the room. which is also one of the scenes that makes me go "NOO" because someone needs to stop this man from kicking poor humphrey around. i still love him though lol
My friend and I were discussing Ghosts and I mentioned that I admire the sensitive handling of the gay storyline and she said, “Oh, I’ve only seen S1. Wait, there’s a gay character? I missed that. Is it the scoutmaster or the poet?”
Make of that what you will
How can you miss cap. The pining for the director??? Cmon now
it wouldn't format on tumblr but voila:
Another little Ghosts snippet.
