A product development specialist at 3M Company in St. Paul, Thomas Disselkamp provides project leadership for teams that design electronic and optical products. During his long career with this corporation, he has received recognition for his product creations. The 3M Company honored Tom Disselkamp with their Engineering Achievement Award for developing an optical and electronic process monitoring system. Additionally, his design of an optical magnetic tape defect detection system not only earned him a Quality Achievement Award, but the product was successfully sold to the Department of Defense. Finally, Thomas Disselkamp received the Corporate Circle of Technical Excellence Award for an innovative web inspection system. Thomas Allen Disselkamp earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at the University of Minnesota. After completing his undergraduate work, he continued to take graduate level courses in solid-state physics and other subjects related to his profession. He began his career at 3M Company in 1981, advancing to his current product development specialist position about 16 years ago. In his free time, Tom Disselkamp runs, bikes, and plays tennis. He also enjoys grilling, vegatable gardening and skiing. An avid traveler, he has made trips to nearly all of the 50 U.S. states and to several foreign countries.

MSRA Celebrates 46th Annual Car Show with Back to the 50s Theme

With a career spanning over three decades, Thomas “Tom” Allen Disselkamp serves as a product development specialist at 3M, where he leads projects teams and reviews engineering drawings and system documentation. Apart from work, Thomas Allen Disselkamp enjoys traveling within the United States and abroad. He has attended several music concerts and has been to the Minnesota Street Rod Association (MSRA) annual auto show. Committed to promoting the sport of street rodding, the Minnesota Street Rod Association celebrated its 46th annual car show on June 19-23, 2019, at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds with the theme "back to the ’50s." Voted as the 2019 Best Car Show by USA Today, the event attracted over 400 vendors and more than 2000 volunteers from the United States and abroad. Some of the car show's highlights included curbside rodding, a vintage airplane flyover, and a showcase of over 11,500 registered classic vehicles. A model car contest was set up for three days, while the commercial vendors and the ladies showcase continued until the closing ceremonies on the fourth day. A viewing of the classic cars was held for a full day before the auction on June 22nd. At night, MSRA offered entertainment on the Bandshell Stage and the Westend Shakedown Stage.

In his role as a product development specialist, Thomas Allen Disselkamp has earned numerous accolades for his contributions, including awards for quality achievement and corporate engineering. In his spare time, Tom Disselkamp often volunteers for charitable causes and attends music concerts and dance performances, such as Riverdance. Riverdance first took the international stage during the 1994 Eurovision, a contest where musicians from all over Europe compete for the title of best original song. The Riverdance set featured Irish step dancing, a dance style that features complex, intricate footwork paired with a static upper body. The memorable performance brought traditional Irish dance to the world stage. Riverdance’s debut featured famed Irish dancer Michael Flately, who went on to lead the show’s stage production. From 1995 to the early 2000s, Riverdance: The Show ran at more than 400 theatres across world, including sold out showings in London and New York. Nearly 25 years after the first Riverdance show, the production remains popular. More than 25 million people to date have watched a Riverdance performance in person.

The History of Cross Country Skiing at the Olympics

Drawing upon more than 35 years of engineering experience, Thomas Allen Disselkamp serves as a product development specialist with the Infection Prevention Division of 3M's health care business. In his leisure time, Thomas (Tom) Disselkamp enjoys cross country skiing. The oldest type of skiing, cross country skiing evolved into an athletic pursuit in the 19th century with the first recorded race taking place in 1842. By 1924, it had become popular enough to be included as a men's event in the 1924 Chamonix Winter Olympic Games; the women's competition was added in 1952 at the Oslo Games. Since gaining Olympic inclusion, the sport has been dominated by six European countries. Each of the past 14 gold medal winners in the men's 15 kilometer free event have either been from Switzerland (Dario Cologna has won gold in the past three Olympics), Estonia, Russia, Sweden, Norway, or Finland. In the women's 10 kilometer free event, Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland and Barbara Petzold of Germany are the only gold medal winners not from the aforementioned countries. Other cross country events in the most recent Winter Games included the men’s 4-by-10-kilometer relay, men’s and women’s team sprint free, and men’s 50 kilometer mass start classic.

The Minnesota Street Rod Association Scholarship Foundation

Thomas Allen Disselkamp serves as a product development specialist for the 3M Company. Away from work, Thomas (Tom) Disselkamp enjoys attending community events, including the annual car shows held by the Minnesota Street Rod Association. Hosting automobile-related events throughout the Midwest for its members and the public, the Minnesota Street Rod Association works to foster fellowship among auto enthusiasts. The association is dedicated to advancing the sport of hot rodding throughout the state of Minnesota. In its efforts to help young adults pursue educational opportunities after high school, the Minnesota Street Rod Association maintains a scholarship foundation. Silent auctions, donations, and the sale of items such as cookbooks and art prints generate funds for the scholarship foundation. Scholarships are reserved for members of the Minnesota Street Rod Association and their dependents under the age of 21. Funds are presented to young people who are enrolled in accredited universities, colleges, or technical schools.

Raising Money for the American Diabetes Association

Thomas Allen Disselkamp is a product development specialist for the 3M Company in St. Paul, Minnesota. Outside of work, Thomas (Tom) Disselkamp supports philanthropic causes, including the American Diabetes Association. Tom Disselkamp recently participated in the Twin Cities Tour de Cure to raise money for diabetes research and treatment. The Tour de Cure is the flagship fundraising program of the American Diabetes Association. Supporters have the option to run, walk, or cycle on teams or as individuals. In addition to diabetes research and treatment, funds raised by the Tour de Cure go toward public education and advocacy programs for the prevention and management of diabetes. The 2018 Twin Cities Tour de Cure was held June 2. More than 1400 participants and over 140 teams took part in the event. Sponsoring a Family Through Unbound

With more than three decades of experience in product development, Tom Disselkamp develops electrical and optical products for a range of international markets as a specialist at the 3M Company. Thomas Allen Disselkamp also sponsored two international children for Unbound, an international nonprofit that helps marginalized and vulnerable peoples. It was formerly known as the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA). Becoming a sponsor through Unbound offers families relief from poverty through monthly financial contributions. These go toward helping families meet their basic needs and support programs designed to empower sponsored individuals and their families. Sponsored families receive guidance from local Unbound staff on what resources to apply benefits to, which range from nutrition and health care to education and improved living conditions. They may also use benefits as seed capital for a small farm or business. After sending in their first $36 contribution, sponsors can create an online account with Unbound and communicate with their sponsored friend through eLetters and traditional mail. Sponsors will also receive photos of their sponsored individual and information about the benefits and services available.

The Hunger to Hope Gala in Minneapolis

A product development specialist at 3M in Maplewood, Minnesota, Thomas Allen Disselkamp has more than three decades of experience working with electronic and optical systems. Alongside his career, Thomas (Tom) Disselkamp volunteers with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). A Christian nonprofit organization founded in 1987, FMSC relies on generous donors and volunteers to provide food to children in need around the globe. The organization funds long-term programs to deliver nutritious meals to hungry children, partnering with other nonprofit groups to transport and distribute food packed by volunteers. To help pay for these programs, FMSC hosts fundraising events such as the Hunger to Hope Gala. This year ’s event will feature a variety of entertainment opportunities, including raffles, auctions, dancing, and a gourmet dinner. The 2018 Hunger to Hope Gala will take place November 10 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

A veteran product development specialist at the 3M Company in St. Paul, Minnesota, Thomas Allen Disselkamp has been with 3M for more than 30 years, serving in his current role for the last 16. In his free time, Thomas Disselkamp stays active with a variety of activities, including agate hunting. Tom Disselkamp has accumulated a sizeable and unique collection of these beautiful stones, many of them having gone through the polishing process. Agates are semiprecious fine-grained gemstones that are known for their concentric bands of color. Found all over the world, agates are highly sought-after stones because they display a variety of patterns and colors and can be polished and shaped into a number of beautiful objects. Hunting for agates can be a very rewarding experience, and may be as easy as taking a walk or a hike—provided that one knows where to look, and what to look for. Agates can be found in all 50 states, in mountains, deserts, and along the shores of oceans and other waterways. If searching along beach areas, it is best to go early in the day or late in the evening because small agates are often washed up onshore and can be easily spotted in lower slopes of sunlight. Agates in mountains and deserts may be somewhat harder to find because they are often found in larger chunks that are harder to identify. However, keeping a keen eye out for bumpy rocks with banded areas will keep you on the right track. It is also a good idea to research the types of agates that exist where you live so that you have an idea of the colors and patterns that you should be looking for while searching.
