Spells are like recipes and therefore have a way they’re supposed to work, but I find it baffling how many posts I see talking about how the EXACT recipe must be followed.

I very rarely follow an exact recipe when I’m cooking, and less so when I’m doing witchcraft. Most of the time there’s no recipe, I’m just putting things together that I think will work based on what I already know.

Sometimes an ingredient won’t work for you personally (maybe someone is allergic, maybe you just hate that smell), sometimes you don’t HAVE that ingredient, sometimes you just want to try something that sounds good.

Yes, sometimes this means the recipe, or the spell, doesn’t work at all and all you’ve made is a mess, but the more you work in your craft, the easier it becomes to work by instinct and experience. Witchcraft is not and has never in history been an exact science.
