March 15, 1999 | Paul McCartney is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 11 months after his wife of 29 years, Linda McCartney, died of breast cancer. Paul was visibly shaken during the ceremony at Linda’s absence, whom he had only ever spent 10 days apart from during their entire marriage (and only due to forcible confinement when Paul was jailed for marijuana possession in Japan). The words of his unplanned speech always found their way to Linda, and he eventually invited his and Linda’s daughter, Stella McCartney, up on stage with him to complete the speech.
