What a day! This morning, Tori announced a companion album of 9 songs for “Tori And The Muses”!! It releases at midnight tonight local time-so it’s already live in other parts of the world. I don’t know how I’m going to make it through work tomorrow. There will also be an audiobook read by T, but boooo Amazon! I’m sure it will also be available from other places
Dearest Beekeeper, you are 20 years old today!! I will never forget going to my PO box at Kenyon to see you arrived early (maybe a few dsys, maybe a week, I can’t remember) i think it was also the day I got my first copy of The Bell Jar. You are both sweet and fierce, hisTORIcal and personal. Parasol is an amazing opener-the subtle simmer of a woman coming to terms perhaps with a new chapter of life, perhaps an unexpected event, or something else. Barons Of Suburbia and General Joy stand out to me as political songs from the Bush II era, when things were not great, but we were sure it couldn’t get any worse. My favorite song from the record is Witness-the vibe and Hammond organ riff remind me of LA Woman era Doors, especially a song called The Changeling❤️-a favorite from that record! Mother Revolution and Witness both feature fantastic utilization of the special back up singers Tori had on this record. Mother Revolution also includes the phrase “strange days,” which I always like to think is another nod to The Doors, though I know it’s probably not. Original Sinsuality stands out to me for a variety of reasons; the simplicity of just vocal, plus piano, the illustration of Tori’s profound, biblical knowledge, and a small showcasing of the character of her voice at the time-tender, yet strong and full. Marys Of The Sea and The Beekeeper close the record for me, and the spectrum of soundscape they cover is vast. Mary’s immerses us in French religious lore, and instrumentation that moves like mighty waves under the chorus. The Beekeeper (song) is one of my favorite Tori songs of all time, I think because the concept of Beekeeper as Grim Reaper, or a harbinger of death is very Sylvia Plath. I also love all the sounds that undulate under Tori’s playing-retaining an earthy vibe while still alluding to the machinery that can surround us when death is near.
Beekeeper, you’re beautiful and botanical, soulful and sagacious, and like all Tori records, a great teacher and a great friend. Happy Birthday!

iiieee!!!!! Exciting!!
Just another light missing 💔 I was heartbroken to learn this morning of Richard’s passing at 7:50 a.m. He was one of the biggest pillars of the Tori/EWF community; he knew of Tori’s family when he lived in the same area as them in the 70’s, I believe. He was the Tori Historian, and his knowledge, like his memories, was detailed and vast. I was always amazed at how vivid and detailed his Tori memories were-this was illustrated nor only in his stories but his plethora of show reviews that he shared on The Dent in the 1990’s. He had such a brilliant mind-he worked at The Library Of Congress and had a brain for details. I also really appreciated when he would tag me in posts about paranormal stuff, and when he went out of his way to make sure I specifically knew about Ann Powers’ book about Joni Mitchell. Sometimes he would share stories only he could, and I was always grateful . I had the opportunity to visit him in Philadelphia in 2017, and he sat close to me at that show. He was good enough to give Tori a letter from me then. I hope I can find that picture-I had it at one time. It’s fitting I think that he passed on the Solstice, the day light begins to return. Also, I truly believe the universe knows-I believe Richard was, as sad as it is, meant to leave us now because he especially would not have fared well during the next administration, and he especially would not deserve an end made worse by blatant disregard for humanity. He had a hard enough time as it was. I love you, Mercury. Here I will carry carry carry you, forever. I’ve always loved this picture of us. I will frame it and put it somewhere I can see it every day ❤️
