Orion sits on top of a lamppost somewhere in town. They like being up high, and the buildings were short enough here that it didn’t make much difference where they sat.

He sits there for a while before he catches sight of someone on the street below. He knows a Vast avatar when he sees one. He waves down at the stranger cheerily.

“Hi there!”

He smiles, waving up at them.

Hello! What side of the family are you on?”

He jokes. Either this person is a vast avatar, some estranged uncle of his (which he has too many to count), or just some parkour enthusiast. Either way, he found himself very funny, at least to himself if no one else.

“Well, assuming you mean what am I, I’m a Vast avatar!” They slide down from the pole, dropping in front of Caleus and holding out their hand.

“Nice to meetcha!”

Caelus lift’s his red sunglasses up and rest them on his head before taking the other’s hand with a firm grip. His eyes contain all the weight of the sky, like atlas with the entire heavens resting atop his back.

Nice to meet you aswell. My name is Caelus Fairchild? And you are?

“Orion Fairchild!” They shake his hand happily. “You know my mom Simon then? I mean not all vast avatars do but- most do!”

“He’s my dad!” He beams “never knew I had a sibling but knowing Simons tendency to absorb people into the family, it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.”

He giggles. “Yeah. Fairchild problem. Though are we talking about different people? Because my Simon is a transgender woman.” They sure hope the kids not just misgendering her. But considering Simon had never mentioned another kid, the former seems more likely.

He blinks confusedly. “Well there’s a lot of Simon’s in the world so that very well could be the case. I don’t know a trans Simon, and if the old man was I’d certainly hope he’d tell me something like that.”

Orion shakes his head, smiling. “Yeah. Definitely different. Maybe versions of the same person though. It’s become weirdly normal.”

They look the kid over curiously, noting his appearance. “Well Caelus, do you like Vast activities?”

Caelus hangs upside down from one of the tree branches, curly white hair springing as he sways.

You’re from the institute aren’t you?

He asks with a smile clear in his voice.

Amelie startles slightly as they lift up faer head,letting out a surprised hiss.

"Hm¿? Yes,why?¿"

It looks up at him, curious and surprised.

Caelus dropped down onto the ground, not even making a noise when his feet touched earth, as if he weighed nothing at all.

I spend a non zero amount of time there, and I may have spotted you a few times perhaps. Library department I assume?

Amelie nods, hugging Willard close. The cat stares at Caelus with an almost curious look.

"Yes, your assumption is correct. Although I don't recognise you, what is your name¿?"

Caelus Fairchild, at your service.

He bows dramatically, waving his right hand around with a flair

Amelie tilts faer head at the name,not saying anything. "Well,it is nice to meet you."

You never gave me your name, so unless you correct me I’ll assume your name is Well. Nice to meet you too Well!

Amelie rolls faer eyes.

"Amelie Liddel."

They gesture at the cat beside them.

"Her name is Willard.'

Pleasure to meet you both, really.

His voice lowers to a conspiratorial tone

Say, considering the director’s silly need for ignorance among his workers, would you say that you like the number 14 at all?

"Man,is it that obvious¿?"

It sighs dramatically.

"Vast, are you?¿"

Correct. Well I wouldn’t say it was obvious, simply that if you were in the know I could have a pleasant conversation, and if you weren’t, it would be a very fun conversation you see. And you are?

"It's not fun if I just tell you,guess¡!"

It grins, brushing off a few curls off of faer face. They can see small spidery eyes on faer face,positioned around the main set.

Hmmm, web is the obvious answer given appearances, however, that response is something I’d say one of the more eye-adverse fears would say, so that means dark, spiral or stranger. Now, the categories meld into eachother, so it may very well be true that you are multiple of any of the ones I just mentioned.

I assume you aren’t a Stranger because you mentioned not recognising me, and well, a stranger likely wouldn’t care to keep track of that nor mention it in conversation, so that cuts that one off the list,

I also severely doubt you’re of the Dark considering you work in The Magnus Institute, so that reduces the chances of you being that.

With all that I’d say you either web, spiral, or some mixture of the two.

Amelie laughs loudly,faer laughter echoing in a way that makes their ears ring.

He sits down, a cheerful smile glued to his face.

I have my father to thank for that, as he has an excellent way of teaching, making you figure out yourself while still helping where needed. Builds a sort of deduction for the unknown and esoteric Yknow?

He looks up at the sky fondly.

"Is your father Simon Fairchild¿?"

It asks sort of jokingly.

His smile widens

Correct! Although not by blood as you might guess. He adopted me when I was about four or five.

He rubs his chin, thinking about something.

Yknow, I sometimes wonder what my life would’ve been like if he hadn’t taken me under his wing. Hardly remember my parents except for the fact they were very much absent for most of my memories, and I was left to just wander unsupervised.

Amelie hums.

"That's honestly what I hear the most about Fairchilds. God knows how many of you are adopted. It's... Interesting."

They tilt faer head at Caelus.

"You probably would have ended up with a different alignment. Sometimes it takes a little shift to the right and everything goes from there."

I mean what significance does blood relation have anyway? It’s a minuscule little chain of coding which some semblance to another which binds you together. A weak link really.

Caelus drops his smile and furrows his brow in contemplation.

Although if I were to have stayed with my parents I might have tread a path leading me to not think in the same way. The idea of alternate universes fascinates me, I mean, one universe is already so big, so Vast, and yet the possibilities of there being near infinite alternate versions of this already massive universe, well, it makes you feel quite small doesn’t it? The paths I could have taken are innumerable so the me here now doesn’t really matter because there are so many different possibilities mes out there. He rambled

Amelie lets out a barely audible groan. Here he goes. And that's exactly why they don't make much Vastard friends.

"I am aware of atleast 3 alternate versions of myself."

It shrugs, petting Willard.

"I am not sure I care about nihilism, nothing is real anyway."

Ah but nihilism and the idea that nothing is real have much in common!

He smiles, holding a finger up to exentuate whatever point he’s about to make

If nothing is real then why would it matter? If life is just one big dream, then the dreamer will wake up eventually and we will not have had any significant impact.

Either way I’m more of an absurdist myself, after all nothing matters so I might aswell enjoy myself rather than stressing over other people’s perceptions of me.

Amelie sighs heavily.

"Is that the treatment everyone gets upon first meeting you¿? Or is this a Caelus special¿?"

He beams. By the way he smiles he almost looks proud of myself.

Although it is definitely more fun with humans, I guess dropping existential crises doesn’t work as well of your specific flavour of fear. I’ll have to find a buried avatar who won’t try to kill me on sight and try it on them, it could have interesting effects.

Amelie couldn't help but laugh at his expression.

"I am a walking existential crisis, unfortunately."

Ah so you could be an outlier, noted.

He fold his arms

Anyway do you have any idea how hard it is to find even somewhat friendly avatars who aren’t aligned with the same power as you? Rude of them honestly.

Oh woe. I’ll never be able to inflict existential dread upon the horrors now!

Amelie cackles loudly, immediately looking around to see if anyone has witnessed.

"You just need to try harder,mister 'nothing matters!¡'"

He put the back of his hand to his forehead and closed his eyes

Woe for I am misery, misery I tell you! It’s all fruitless! Death be a upon me for my hubris!

He cracks one eye open for a moment before dropping his eccentric posture.

Anyway, really I just think it’s interesting to see what effects fears have on eachother when they interact, I mean, not many people have actively saught to experiment with that, for good reason too though.

Amelie covers faer mouth, cackling in the worst spirally manner ever.

"I have known you for what,an hour, and you have already proved yourself to be a whole drama llama."

It sighs, wiping away neon tears of laughter.

"I know a lot of avatars react with annoyance when they figure out I'm a spiral."

He lifts a hand and points it off to the side nonchalantly as a guesture.

Well I don’t see why that matters. You’re fun, that’s what I think’s important. And yes that’s what happens when you take both theatre and band electives during highschool.

It grins, brushing off a few curls off of faer face. They can see small spidery eyes on faer face,positioned around the main set.

Hmmm, web is the obvious answer given appearances, however, that response is something I’d say one of the more eye-adverse fears would say, so that means dark, spiral or stranger. Now, the categories meld into eachother, so it may very well be true that you are multiple of any of the ones I just mentioned.

I assume you aren’t a Stranger because you mentioned not recognising me, and well, a stranger likely wouldn’t care to keep track of that nor mention it in conversation, so that cuts that one off the list,

I also severely doubt you’re of the Dark considering you work in The Magnus Institute, so that reduces the chances of you being that.

With all that I’d say you either web, spiral, or some mixture of the two.

Amelie laughs loudly,faer laughter echoing in a way that makes their ears ring.

"Clever¡! I have to give it to you!¡"

He sits down, a cheerful smile glued to his face.

I have my father to thank for that, as he has an excellent way of teaching, making you figure out yourself while still helping where needed. Builds a sort of deduction for the unknown and esoteric Yknow?

He looks up at the sky fondly.

"Is your father Simon Fairchild¿?"

It asks sort of jokingly.

His smile widens

Correct! Although not by blood as you might guess. He adopted me when I was about four or five.

He rubs his chin, thinking about something.

Yknow, I sometimes wonder what my life would’ve been like if he hadn’t taken me under his wing. Hardly remember my parents except for the fact they were very much absent for most of my memories, and I was left to just wander unsupervised.

"That's honestly what I hear the most about Fairchilds. God knows how many of you are adopted. It's... Interesting."

They tilt faer head at Caelus.

"You probably would have ended up with a different alignment. Sometimes it takes a little shift to the right and everything goes from there."

I mean what significance does blood relation have anyway? It’s a minuscule little chain of coding which some semblance to another which binds you together. A weak link really.

Caelus drops his smile and furrows his brow in contemplation.

Although if I were to have stayed with my parents I might have tread a path leading me to not think in the same way. The idea of alternate universes fascinates me, I mean, one universe is already so big, so Vast, and yet the possibilities of there being near infinite alternate versions of this already massive universe, well, it makes you feel quite small doesn’t it? The paths I could have taken are innumerable so the me here now doesn’t really matter because there are so many different possibilities mes out there. He rambled

If nothing is real then why would it matter? If life is just one big dream, then the dreamer will wake up eventually and we will not have had any significant impact.

Either way I’m more of an absurdist myself, after all nothing matters so I might aswell enjoy myself rather than stressing over other people’s perceptions of me.
