I found this $2 Strand book, Platens Werke, a collection of plays and sonnets from German dramatist and poet August von Platen-Hallermünde (thank you, Google), in the lost-and-found bin at work. I was instantly struck by its aged paper and strange font choice (so decorative! so German!). Even though I have a stack of both new and old books waiting to be drawn in (including two from Iceland), I took out my markers and started doodling.Ā
Iām horrible at keeping a sketchbook, but sketching in this book felt fun and relaxing, especially after working nonstop on my thesis project for the past couple of months. Even though I still need to work on thesis, Iām going to try to do a sketch a day. Iāve given myself a few rules so I donāt get carried away: the drawings must take me no longer than an hour and I can only use whatās in my pencil case to draw the sketch (which basically amounts to my brush pens, pencils, MUJI markers, and my super fun rainbow pencil). At the end of the week, Iāll dump all my sketches onto my blog.
Ā Itāll be fun to see these sketches amass throughout the month, even though there are more than 400 pages waiting to be filled! These are my first four drawings, inspired by Iceland, Americaās national mammal, shark week and of course, goats.Ā
Pardon my disappearing act these past few months, I was putting the finishing touches on my thesis project, The OfferingĀ (Above is a preview of the first chapter). The story revolves around Maite, who lives on the last human colony in a dying universe. When the colony becomes ravaged by a fatal affliction, Maite is offered help by her new friends: mysterious beings whose uninhibited way of life is considered taboo. Accepting their help inadvertently puts them in danger, forcing Maite to chose who lives and who dies.Ā
The first 3 chapters are currently online, with future chapters coming later in the year. You can read them here: theofferingcomic.com

White, Red, Blue, Yellow, and Black. Pretty happy with how it came out. She looks so bad ass in a cutesy, chibi way. āReally love that her Soul Calibur 6 costume has a skull for a shoulder guard.
