Turkish Red Crescent: The team are distributing essential aid to those affected by the earthquake across Turkey.

The White Helmets: The team are on the ground in Northwest Syria searching for survivors and removing the dead from the rubble.

Turkey Mozaik Foundation: Attempting to provide immediate relief and medium to long term recovery to survivors of the earthquake. 

MSF: remaining in close contact with the local authorities in northwestern Syria and with the authorities in Turkey to extend their support where it’s needed. They’re providing essential life kits to displaced people in the region

OKAY so ummmmmmmmm today was A Lot and I’ll be going through it all slowly because of A Lot of other stuff I’m dealing with but I guess I should address the red elephant in the room

Soooooooo yes.  Amelia is confirmed to be the red ranger and leader of the Cosmic Fury team.  And my reaction to it is a solid “ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

So obviously a lot of it has to do with needing to wait and see an in-context reason for this but right off the bat this is a continuation of an unfortunate trend throughout PR’s history, that Black men leaders consistently get demoted or pushed to the side in favor of a white teammate.  TJ and Andros, Jack and Sky, Scott and Dillon.  Dino Fury had shades of this trend starting when Season 2b’s story pivoting towards the story of Amelia and her parents, but Zayto was still a well-written character throughout the entirety of the two seasons that it wasn’t that much of an issue.  But now it’s being done in a way that’s impossible to ignore, especially when Amelia is the ONLY white person on the DF/CF team, and if we’re being real here, if anyone should have been promoted as leader after Zayto goes, it should have been Aiyon, the other Black man on the team.  It’s just………mmmmmm.   

“But Chip Zayto’s the ZENITH Ranger now, so that must be better” okay but he’s not the leader.  It’s been confirmed he’s not the leader.  Even if he’s a more mentor position now (which we have no idea if he is or not), if he’s taking orders from Amelia, he’s been demoted. 

And going along with how this logically should have been Aiyon I’m just not sure what story reason there is for Amelia to be red and leader??  Like.  I don’t want to be one of Those Commenters who needs justification for girls to have positions of power but this is in context of why the white woman suddenly gets to have power over everyone else!!!  Amelia’s story never had anything to do with leadership, it was just finding her parents!!  Meanwhile Aiyon DOES have potential for a leadership story with him being part of Zayto’s original team and learning to grow into a position he previously failed at!!  Heck IZZY had more of a potential for leadership since she runs training sessions!!  idk!!!!!!!!         

So yeah.  These are all my Complicated Feelings.  And I’m not writing it off completely until the series itself comes out and we can get a better sense of what’s happening, and of course it’s great to have a full-time female red in the series, even if it’s only for ten episodes.  But as is it just feels like continuing a harmful pattern under the mask of “look guys!!  female red ranger!!”

(also you can never convince me that removing a pink ranger is a good thing.  we stan pink in this house)
