Lucien knows Helion is his father, and Lucien and Elain are not mates.
Going back to the beginning, Lucien’s mask was a Fox. It was emphasized throughout the first book how much it fit him, but in the entire series we never really saw him do anything sneaky? He went into velaris and got a sample of the faebane for the tinkerer who made the antidote in acowar but that was it really. And even then it was mentioned again that Lucien used to have the Fox mask. So about him knowing who his dad is. He was an emissary to different courts, so he knew all the gossip. The speculation of Helion and Lucien’s mom was somewhat common considering the entire inner circle knew about it, and they knew an incorrect rumor about it so they didn’t just hear it from Helion directly. He also probably notices that he looks different than his siblings. And he also probably has powers that he notices (and therefore hides) related to the day court. So I think he knows. So back to him and Elain, let’s remember Hybern. Everything is going to shit and they all know it. Feyre says “if you take me away from my mate, I will destroy you”. Then the sisters are brought in and made. I think Lucien knew there was a good chance Feyre wasn’t going to come back, and he needed an in to the night court. Lucien knew Rhys would be sympathetic to him if he thought all of Lucien's actions were driven by the mating bond because Rhys understood it. So he said she was his mate.
~He is always so willingly not in the night court. Both Rhys and Cassian said “they couldn’t stay away” from their mate. I find it very hard to believe Lucien would want to leave his vulnerable mate when he saw how broken she was when he first met her after she was turned.
~He gets along well with and even likes Azriel, despite seeing how him and Elain interact.
~Mates are equals and balance each other out. They don’t seem to have any compatibility at all. Even at the barest level.
Answers to counterclaims:
Feyre read his mind in the private library
I think he let her read his mind and even then they were stereotypical “she’s so skinny” thoughts. Lucien grew up with an abusive father and then as an emissary to different courts. He probably had extensive mental shields. Even if he didn’t though, he knew Rhys could read minds and Feyre could too because she slipped into his mind in acomaf. She was untrained though he had to have noticed. So he would have been policing his thoughts to make sure they were consistent with his ruse.
Elain felt a “tug” on something
I think we know very little of Lucien's power, but as heir to the day court I am sure there is a lot to it that none of us know of. There are spells that could do that certainly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he could do something like that, even if it’s just instinctively.
Az said he could smell the bond
I think this is a bigger clue as to why it is fake than anything. Until a bond is accepted, you can’t smell it. If you could Az would have known Rhys and Feyre were mates when he first met her but he only suspected. I think Lucien could have faked the scent, the same way he faked the tug
