BACKGROUND :    a survivor of the terragrigia panic in 2004 a young man ends up with exposure to the t-abyss virus, though he is lucky enough to never get fully infected. it is only when another il veltro copycat group gets a hold of him and uses him for experiments on the virus. over and over do they test his immunity to small doses of it thanks to his previous exposure and over and over do they overdo it and have to inject him with an antivirus in order to keep him controllable. it isn't long until they decide to install a device into his arm to inject the antigen into his body whenever t-abyss was about to completely alter his brain functions. 

he's less human than he is a weapon disguised in a human body. only when the group is disbanded, wiped out entirely and he is placed on a government watchlist does project m-13 find out what horror truly means; being told you are free only to remain imprisoned in a different kind of laboratory. he flees, and even though it may remain a bad idea, at least he can pretend he is free, even if in the long run he is reliant on the antigen he has to scavenge everywhere he can find it. if only it were consistent, perhaps then his mutation wouldn't slowly progress despite attempts to halt it.

BACKGROUND :    originally the son of two alchemists based in mondstadt “flint” has lost both of his parents during an expedition to dragonspine where they were ambushed by thieves ,  and upon escaping them found themselves trapped in a passageway with two or three ruin guards .   he does not remember much more other than being covered in blood when he stumbles his way into a hilichurl camp .   except they do not attack him ,   not right away anyway .   it’s when he’s well into their camp ,  when he runs right into the back of a napping mitachurl that they finally attack .   in a desperate fit he takes the sword his mother gifted him ,   the one he used to carry only to pridefully display it without properly knowing how to use it and fights .   and it’s with desperate rage ,   a flame fueled by rage and sorrow that drowns out everything else before it engulfs him in a raging inferno  -   and before he knows it or even remembers how it happened he’s found his vision .   

years later he’s resigned from his dreams of ever joining the knights of favonius ,   exhausted of existing and filled with a rage directed at the archons he has since become a mercenary ,   willing to work for whomever offers him the most mora .

CHARACTER BACKGROUND :     THE DIRECTOR .

NAME :    anthony reyes . CODENAME :    detroit . AGE :    fifty - three . STATUS :    alive . OCCUPATION :    director of b.i.s.s north american branch .

GENERAL APPEARANCE :    standing slightly taller than what is considered average height reyes does not look much too different from any ordinary citizen ;  it is an advantage ,  to blend in despite the fact that other than two or three prominent scars on his face and dozens of other ones that are hidden beneath layers of clothing he can still manage to blend in quite well .  he is well built ,  as expected from someone in his position & despite his usually serious expression it is evident he’s working himself into the ground by the exhaustion lines in his face .

PERSONALITY :    despite being considered a serious person ,  reyes is not one to pass up the opportunity for a good one - liner or a dry remark .  his sense of humor may have dulled over the years but that doesn’t mean he’ll hold it back anyways .  he is a hard - working man and to a degree ,  his words are one way for him to relief himself of stress ;  it is easier than consistently going after a hobby he wouldn’t have time for anyways .  he is distrustful of human experiments ,  especially after losing his children ( a son & a daughter ) in the duisstadt tragedy ,  even so he has found that sometimes he has to place his trust in a select few of them if they’ve proven that they deserve it .  so far ,  in spite of firm belief towards the contrary ,  he has not been disappointed .

it’s what caused sort of a cognitive dissonance ;  the knowledge that experiments are at fault for what happened in duisstadt and several other cities across the globe yet also knowing they never chose to act the way they are and that some of them are still in control of themself .  it makes it harder to take action against them when push comes to shove .  he also has a tendency to keep a professional distance to his subordinates and colleagues ;  in this line of work he’s suffered many losses and he does not want to suffer from a personal loss again .  losing an agent is hard enough ,  it doesn’t have to be a friend too .   despite that he still has a handful of select people who managed to worm their way into his heart .  it’s frustrating enough ,  but it’s even worse given that two of them are noir & sterling . 

HISTORY :    originally “only” a special agent for b.i.s.s after retiring from the air force reyes had been on vacation with his family in duisstadt when the tragedy began ;  he had to witness his wife and daughter being torn apart by an experiment before barely managing to grab his son and run out of there  -  the entire event is a blur that he tries to supress ;  a memory he does not wish to relive in any form .  but it’s still a clear image in his mind when another experiment ,  only halfway feral but definitely morally gone ,  grabs his son from behind and injects him with their serum .  he’s refrained from using handguns ever since ,  preferring physical combat over guns .  work had been everything for him after that and it didn’t take long ,  perhaps a few years for him to rise until in 2014 he became the new director of the north american b.i.s.s branch .

incidentally that’s the year he first encounters sterling ;  an experiment that was supposed to be feral and yet ... refused to just give in to it .  it fascinates him ,  especially because shortly after he encounters noir ,  another one just like that .  he’s always assumed almost all of them were gone ,  and those who weren’t lost control fast .  he’d never been able to guess that there would be a handful of experiments resisting .  and it’s after that that he sends his best agents after sterling and noir specifically ,  on rare and special occasions when the time is there or when it is an emergency ,  he will be there himself .  and every time it leaves him even more confused and frustrated because he keeps finding out he has a weak spot for two of the most wanted experiments that keep getting away .

mock gasp leaves scarred lips in faux play of shock  at  words spoken once he  registers them properly ;   there’s a mischievous twinkle in his eyes but sterling isn’t one to completely hide how he feels     -     at least not until it is absolutely necessary .   and most of the time there’s no need to be as serious ,  anyways . ❛   language !  ❜          he exclaims in dramatic display of feigned consternation ; mayhaps the world lost an actor on him .  or perhaps not   -  he is having far too much fun being dramatic to take any chance  at a career path like that serious . limb moves to poke at her shoulder as though to underline how appalling words like that were to him ,     except he can’t help but snort a suppressed laugh and  chuckle at that before his hand can even lift .      shifting from sweeping act to a general kind of amusement he offers a raised brow in return ,  as though to add a little insult to his previous statement     ( he’d just been joking she wouldn’t be able to take the jump up the ledge to open the door from the other side ;  he did not expect the day wearing on badly enough to make him sound serious enough to seem insulting )   as though it doesn’t make him feel a little guilty   ( it does )  .

❛   nah ,  seriously you gotta watch your fuckin’ words .  what if there’s kids or something around .       plus ,  unlike you i can’t dig up people’s files so i genuinely wouldn’t know .     though ,  be my guest to prove you’re right .   ❜

gaze does not wander off from ahead of him ;  not when there could be danger still lurking around .   he knows some experiments take to the virus strains harder than him and the handful of others he has remained in contact with - he just feels bad in the face of knowing he’s dragged the zeta soldier with him .    granted ,  it’s not like he did it on purpose  and  it wasn’t like there wasn’t definitely some work issues for either of them involved here ,  but it doesn’t lessen the burden knowing he could be to blame for this .  he knows nothing about how involved the other sterling possibly  is with human experiments like him ;   doesn’t know if he knows how to handle a ... feral one ,  much as he hates that expression .  he’ll definitely know how to take one out but does he know that most of them can return from the dead completely under  the parasites control if there is still blood in their body ?   maybe ,  maybe not .  one of these days he’ll have to ask just so he knows whether or not to feel bad for every time he’s dragged him into a mess like this ,                                       willingly or not .  

❛  it only gets more exciting from here on out ,                                           i fear . ❜ dry response comes quietly ,   barely loud enough for the other to hear .   best not to raise suspicions or alarms either ,   he’s at least smart enough for that himself ,  he’d say .  though the experiment offers a glance towards the soldier at last ,  expression  one that seems akin to confusion ,   perhaps to the situation .   though ,  at least he’s honest on this point ,  it’s mostly just questions about his ( involuntary ? )  companion at this point .                                                          ❛   you ever handle a feral one ?  ❜ he questions with disdain for the very word to describe those like him evident in both voice and expression .   if one day ,  he too ,  were to succumb to the very thing that had been used to torture him ,  to ruin his life ...  would they count him as feral ,  too ?

❛   shh . ❜    response comes quickly with prosthetic index finger raised towards  scarred lips in a hush motion ;   he waits ,  holding up other hand as though he has  heard  something  only to drop  it after a handful  of torturous moments  in  silence .         he’s surprised it’s worked but he assumes it’s because he’s been  pretending to hear danger nearby  -  a bsaa agent was , after all , still someone trained to be on the lookout for danger .  ironic ;  given that technically he is not unlikely to be on their list of “dangerous specimen” or whatever they might have in their databases .    it is not something he would complain about ,   were it not for the fact  he wouldn’t be  on there had  il veltro  never started their ridiculous  scheme of panic .     so he’s surprisingly somber ,   despite hints of clear as day amusement in his voice ,  when he explains .         ❛   i’m enjoying the silence. ❜  

it comes with a deadpan expression ,  as if he’s reciting the weather forecast and has not just been being a little shit on purpose .      he doesn’t wait for a reaction ,  however and instead opts to jump up on top of the ledge leading to what he would assume to be the door to another sector .  better safe than sorry ,  he muses .  not that it is any help to keep his mouth from running anyway ,   finding that he is still , even with the way he acts ,  inclined to agree .       ❛   today’s been shite ,  yeah .  HEY !     you could just quit your job and join my emo band or some shite .   ❜   he’s joking ,   of course .                                                                               partially .

“ i  love  when  people  underestimate  me  and  then  become  pleasantly  surprised . ”

there’s a moment of pause ,         of quietly appraising words long since spoken  he does not entirely know why  people could underestimate anyone nowadays ; especially since you could never be sure of who is who ,        but he opts to stay  quiet on that one and instead offers a small nod ,            ❛   love it when they’re unpleasantly surprised.  ❜         he responds with smothered hints of glee in his voice     -    he remembers the humiliating feeling of being underestimated in the  worst sense and he remembers how thrilling it was to prove everyone wrong . he can’t really imagine what it might feel like for people to be pleased about the stuff he did .   doesn’t want to think about it .  they do not deserve his thoughts ,  and  in return ,  he is not spared the invasive voices of theirs .  he wishes he could be more like this guy ;  at least with the way he thinks .  maybe things would’ve been easier then .     or maybe he was a hopeful fool for dwelling on what-ifs and buts .

there is devious mirth in his voice when he speaks again ,  blatant in the way he is one to appreciate the fine line between friendliness and bastardy  -  one he always manages to trample on by accident every now and then .   well ,  at least he’s a bit more civilized today than yesterday  -  thanks to a lack of sleep maybe ,  or maybe it was the lack of issues arising today .       ❛   ‘s more fun when they’re angry .  ❜

CHARACTER BACKGROUND :     THE EXPERIMENT .

NAME :    redacted . CODENAME :    noir . AGE :    redacted . STATUS :    alive . OCCUPATION :    super soldier experiment on the run .

GENERAL APPEARANCE :    covering several heavy scars with a hood noir easily stands out with the eccentric way of dressing ;  she does not really care much about standing out as long as she is left alone .  the most obvious scars are on her face ,  some from mutating and others from fights with other failed experiments .  noir is of average height but despite a lean appearance packs a lot more muscle than most account for .

PERSONALITY :    with a quiet nature in general noir is not one to talk to strangers ;  her first approach is to silently assess the situation and if it is worth her time - there are only few people who have ever gotten to hear her talk ,  and two of them are both sterling and sac croix .  she is incredibly sarcastic ,  has a clear favor for violence and weaponry and never allows herself to rest .  in a sense , one would say she is cold and ruthless whereas a handful of people know better than that .  it is a layer or protection that she presents with such ferocity that most people turn away before they can hurt her .

but she has a kind side , too , even as an experiment she always had a tendency to protect the young and sick ( despite claiming to hate children ) and even now , on the run , she clearly ensures the safety of those who can’t protect themselves even if it costs her some precious time .  she never expects anything in return ,  but upon being thanked will respond with some dry remark and a “don’t thank me” grumbled in response . she is , in a way , shy when it comes to praise and compliments - so unused to any positive reinforcement that it feels foreign and even strange for her to have it .

HISTORY :    most of noirs history is shrouded in mystery - all that is known is that for five years she’s been an experiment in order to create “soldiers that do not need to sleep ,  soldiers that do not need medical assistence .  soldiers that are the perfect weapon .”  ever since escaping her laboratory ( and finding it destroyed only a few hours later )  she’s been on the run ,  evading both b.i.s.s and other experiments .

CHARACTER BACKGROUND :     THE AGENT .

NAME :    vanessa croix . CODENAME :    jester . AGE :    thirty - three . STATUS :    alive OCCUPATION :    sac in biss’ north american branch .

GENERAL APPEARANCE :    standing rather tall vanessa croix is someone that commands respect wherever she goes ; having dyed her hair blonde in the past she now dons the remains of it with dark roots growing steadily longer without a care - it does not affect her job so it is only a secondary issue .  while easily tanning when she is in the sun for a little while she usually has to handle being called a ghost by her higher-ups thanks to her paleness ( thanks to several nights of overworking herself WEEKLY ) .   with several scars to her features she has a tendency to wear gloves on the job in order to not get pestered about them .

PERSONALITY :    serious ,   dedicated to her work and driven are only few ways to describe special agent in-charge croix ;  those who work with her will always note that she is earnest in what she does and that she deeply cares about doing everything to make the world a little better .   the fact she has earned her rank and keeps rising up within the biss should only serve to underline how diligent she is about her work . though that is ,  of course ,  not all there is to her .  those few people she keeps close know that there may be a sarcastic side to her ,  but also that there is an incredibly idealistic tendency to her outlook on life .

she tries to see the best in every situation and to make the best of all situations , to the point that her pity with the human experiments she encounters at times wins over her desire to do her work properly .  she has encountered far too many former experiments that have desperately striven to fit in to feel a sense of normalcy to the point she has felt bad enough for them to allow them their attempts at normalcy ;  not without ensuring she will know about any possible problems that may arise ,  of course .  though with certain experiments ( such as sterling )  she has a tendency for dry humor and even a veneer of deeply rooted sarcasm dripping from the innermost parts of her personality she may try to keep hidden .  perhaps it’s just his annoying personality - or the fact that every time she thinks she finally can bring him into custody he pulls some stupid stunt to escape .

HISTORY :    born to biss founder valerie croix vanessa has struggled most of her younger years to live up to the expectations everyone has placed in her ;  it is a spotlight her mother had never intended to put her in but with the fame her group gathered it quickly became far too apparent that vanessa would eventually be put on a pedestal she was not allowed down from unless she wanted to see everything she worked for before fall to shambles .  so she’s worked tirelessly ,  finding joy in her duties and job even if it wasn’t what she had dreamt of as a child until eventually finally rising in ranks .

it’s in 2016 that she first encounters sterling ;  it was supposed to be an easy job - get in ,  get him out and bring him into custody .  instead she’s ended up in a neverending cat and mouse game with him where he keeps evading her ( seemingly only to mess with her , too ) to the point she dreads writing reports about their encounters .  it’s shortly after their first encounter that she first begins breaking protocol too ;  he’d led her right to an experiment that had practically begged her for a chance at a normal life and so ,  soft as she’s been trying not to be ,  she let them go .   to live a normal life ,  one that even she was not allowed to have .

founded in late 2001 the bureau of international security services started as a private company meant to counter the rising in illegal human experimentation under the name of “biss” ;  meant to imply that they would bite their way through if they so had to .  the five original members ,  all hailing from differing nations had all come into contact with human experimentation in one way or another .   after the tragedy of duisstadt ,  tennessee and their quick intervention and aid in stopping problems before they could arise properly earned them international recognition until eventually they’ve found their way to becoming an internationally recognized organisation . 

by 2012 they’ve stopped multiple crisis’ ,  intercepted several attacks from out of control human experiments and have made several dozens of arrests on researchers trying to further their research by forcibly mutating their subjects .  they all work hard and while they try to do the right thing it is oftentimes hard to balance their responsibilities while attempting to keep peace between nations seeing as half the time far too many countries weigh in trying to decide what to do in a differing one . 

currently they are operating as they always do ,  except they’ve begun trying to find and recruit multiple escaped subjects that have been seen in public in order to alleviate international fears .

the fact he’s less reliant on guns than he is on machetes and swords simply because he thinks it’s more efficient ( & quiet )

the fact that even though he’s a sarcastic trashcan he will still tone it down if he notices it upsetting people
