Never Dreamed Youâd Leave in Summer
We only lasted a summer but it was much more than a summer fling. She liked me for some time but I ignored it I guess. That summer, I could no longer ignore how I felt about her, so I gave in. Sweet surrender. I loved her but I never told her once. She never said it either. She didnât have to⊠I knew. From the way she looked at me⊠Said my name⊠It was in her touch⊠Itâs crazy to look back on it now, considering how jaded time has made me. Back then we loved without fear of unrequited love, disappointment or heartbreak. That type of love makes you feel invincible. I admit, it made me kind of cocky. I think she liked that about me. I knew without second guessing she was mine. We spent so much time together that summer. Where the fuck were our parents? I vaguely remember singing to her on occasion. I donât sing anymore. One day she was telling me how sheâs certain weâll be together forever so, âWhy wait? We should make babies nowâ. Ha. I was turned on and terrified at the same time. Terrified won. I replied, âNah weâre too young.â I donât think she liked the response but she accepted it. I remember her big beautiful smile and her sexy complexion. Sweet caramel. The summer came to an end and so did we. Itâs fuzzy now. It was as if I woke up and she was gone. Eventually, I found out tshe moved to the âLand of Far Far Awayâ. I remember hating the entire fucking state. How could a place exist that allowed her to be anywhere other than wth me? I usually try to end a story with a joke but this time the joke is reality. Hereâs the punchline. After that summer, I never saw her again. Funny right?
What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again.

Man of Steel
I recently watched the Man of Steel movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've never been big on Superman. I was a comic book nerd for Batman but my only exposure to Superman were the Christopher Reeve movies. During the movie I realized the importance of the character & his story. The whole comic book character isn't about a demigod alien coming to earth to be our hero. It's about morality and growing up an outcast. It's about being patient enough to see that, what you consider a burden can end up being your biggest strength. And it's also about the super power of good parenting. Superman could have been a bully as a child. He could have grown up to be a monster. Instead he learned restraint from his father and compassion from his mother. Clark Kent didn't simply choose to be a hero, he was raised to be one.
