life taught me patience
Fear, confusion, all of it seemed to fill the younger man before him, but that didn’t make Esen change his attitude. On the contrary actually. There was no need to be angry nor was there a need to frighten the boy than he already has by catching him in the act. Not all battles are won by merely embracing the negative aspect of humanity after all. Perhaps it was a little odd for someone like him to think such a thing, but it was what he wholly believed in no matter what he was met within down the line. So when the other showed angered at being perhaps mocked, Esen merely softened his smile and listened on to what else the young man had to say towards his simple commands.
"Ah, Jihad from Istanbul, you are well met—" he spoke with a slight incline of his head. Esen was about to deposit the coins into the others hand that he still held within his grasp, but the question that left his tongue made him pause for a moment. Another soft laugh came out, "I am merely curious. I wish to do you no harm if that is what you suspect." He then resumed giving him the coins before letting go of the other, allowing for his own hands to drop down by his sides. He didn’t expect the young man to stay, but he silently implored him to remain just a little while. "Though my name is Esen Karga and I currently captain a ship just right down there," he gestured towards the end of the harbor where he came from just moments before his little meet with this curious thief.
"Might I also suggest something to you, Jihad?" Esen then started as he placed a friendly hand upon the young mans shoulder. "From one thief to another—look at where your target came from, not where they are going. What did you see when you looked me? A noble, evet? Though if you looked at the ship I came off of, what do you see? Look at the men—hardened, rough, ones you do not wish to steal from no matter what because they will certainly kill you. Or perhaps they are merely men who would not have anything to offer you even if you do steal from them, hm? Now what do you suppose a man like myself would be doing on board a ship like that? Put two and two together, I simply do not even need to say the title for you to understand," he chuckled. If Jihad knew that he was a pirate, would things have changed? Would he never met him? Perhaps. Though Esen was not saying any of this to gloat, or to put the young man into his place; it was merely to make him think. To be a better thief so that he can pickpocket the targets that truly would grant him more of a higher revenue than what he was perhaps making before.
He then let go of his shoulder and took a step back with a small wink towards the other. “It has been an honor meeting you, Jihad.”
۞ Those words were sincere as far as he can tell. 'Well met'... he is likely to never understand this man, but he refuses to complain. He's kind, and how many nobles are nice to the poverty-stricken portion of this city? The small laugh captured his attention, and he smiled as the man stated his curiosity. He had quite the amount of curiosity himself, and he knew some inquiries may seem dubious to those he questions, and so he shook his head lightly, the smile only widening. ❝ I wasn't afraid of being harmed. I'm merely wondering why the name of a street rat may interest you very much. ❞ He took the coins with the smile remaining as wide as it is, eyes and fingers studying the effortlessly gained money with an absent mind, and he refused to leave until the man gives him permission to do so--- somehow, he knew there was much more to say.
❝ You are well met, kaptan Esen. ❞ He inclined his head and repeated the same words which were given to him. Although the display of respect was genuine, he couldn't help being playful, if only a little. ❝ I have seen you come down from the ship, but I assumed they were only delivering a noble. ❞ He looked nothing like the Captains he had seen before. Too much of a gentleman to even bark orders at his men... or so he presumes. Both of Esen's words and warm gesture declared a subject of importance, and all his senses centered on what was going to be said. As simple as one may put it, what has been said struck him with shock and surprise. From one thief to another. This man was a thief as well--- no, a pirate, and he knew very little of what to feel. Happiness? Disbelief? Anger? He waited silently until the Captain spelled all that's needed to be said, and only then did the boy feel utterly brainless. Of course he could have been killed, beaten to death, or thrown to the mercy of guards, all due to how careless he can be at times. He knew it was mere luck that had been bestowed upon him today, or else he wont be breathing this very moment. Despite all that, the smile returned once more. ❝ I understand what you mean, and I admit of being reckless, but I couldn't help myself, for I tend to follow my instincts. And, Efendim, were you taught how to steal? ❞

☪ Angry, he waned to reach the man and throw that to his nape but he was too far from him now and the sound the gold made him attach he bag to his chest. Radu knew that sound very well and he knew the kind of problems that was sourcing over him if he kept them. Of course a Janissary like him wouldn’t be questioned by carrying a huge amount of money with him, but he was afraid of losing the Sultan’s trust. For his family it was a tradition to do that. He wondered what would his Sultan do, it was very obvious that the man, this skillful thief was planning to claim his swag, and his Sultan would put in prison that man a soon as the man appeared.
But he wasn’t that strict and maybe that was the little detail that made hims similar to Mehmet and very different to his family. He wanted to know stories, reasons, and maybe if the theft has been successful after all the mess, the man deserved part of the gold in that bag. Radu walked like if nothing had happened; trying not to call people’s attention. If a guard suspected of him the only thing he had to do was to reveal his identity and he would be left alone.
The Janissary went to the same stores and bought the some things he used to buy. Bread and some herbs with the money the thief had handed him. It didn’t pass more than some hours until he started to feel a sight on his shoulders, he only hoped the other man to be closer.
۞ Dodging guards for the most part was not a hard task, for there were enough hiding places in Istanbul to take shelter within. It is only how long it took him to lure them away which gnawed at him, and he prayed to the God above him that his previous effort did not go to waste. It was only a single thought which clung to his mind; the man taking the effortlessly earned prize and going home, to where Jihad cannot find him. Such thoughts had their influence on him, and for someone who is no longer a child, he still had quite the imagination to befoul his spirit, and enough to enrage him. It was time to go back, perhaps with a long cloak to blind any guard who may have known his appearance, and then find the man who had his stolen pouch. Once he shielded his slim being from any prying eyes, he returned to where the theft took place, the Grand Bazaar. To find a single, hiding man in a sea of traders and buyers was much more tricky than he had presumed, far more challenging, and a part of the boy developed a sense of betrayal--- could the man be long gone with his money? If so, he can be such a stupid child at times. Despite the dying hope each passing moment, his eyes resumed observing the area, looking for the color he knew the man wore. The thief didn't find him right away; in fact, it took quite some time to locate him in a place he passed by nearly four times. It didn't matter to him how ludicrously blind he was when relief washed over him. It was blissful, as cold water in a burning hot day-- he approached the man once the feeling subsided, gently tapping his shoulder to bring his attention to where he stood.
