Jon Bernthal and his dog, Boss, in Small Engine Repair (2021) dir. John Pollono
when. 30th of March, Mortem mentions. @oflightfeet ; @lottiexpinkett ; @omer-nacar , the wardens
Thomas stands and witnesses the spectacle before him with a disgusting taste on his tongue. Little attention is pointed towards the two side screens, his gaze focused on the middle where he sees Leon tied up and helpless. It doesnât fit him, he thinks, even though in his eyes there is no fear, only a championâs triumph; his grand exit - forced upon him by the hands of cowards who dare not show their faces and hide behind masks of unentitled power. Ackermann sees the flames crown Leonâs head and while the audible gasps around him are infectious, he stands and observes as the embers devour the young boxing prodigy. The seconds of silence as the room goes to onyx black are excruciating. Hands barely graze over the handle of his gun and he hopes Wren and Omer already have their knives out and at the ready. His body is prepared for what is to follow and he promises that whatever were to happen, each bullet would ring with Leon Wileyâs name. And then the coffins appear out of the TVs, as if an illusionist presents their final trick.
This is not an honorable death. It is mockery.
But instead of anger, Thomas is, as per usual, overflown with memories. He still remembers witnessing the kidâs skills at the ring, fists capable of collateral damage on the same if not bigger scale to Thomasâ own. He sees the friendly spars between them, learning from one another, military mind meeting the tricks of a self-taught boxer since child. A partner of crime is Leonâs next imagery, despite his age, the countless interrogation scenes done together passed down easier with company by Thomasâ side. The friendship between Leon and Wren manifests in front of his eyes as well. Now, he is left alone in the shadows of Famineâs dirty work. Seeing family and friends dropping like flies was already a pain too familiar for him.
So instead of feeling and giving himself the luxury to fall into the deadly and mundane claws of emotions, he observes.
Thomas sees as Charlotte Pinkett lets out an agonising scream that echoes for a good few seconds around the Warehouse, its wavelengths forcing the walls to tremble; he looks for Wren and sees their body quivering, sobs like a protective shell just for them to rise again with flames in their eyes; bears witness to the Wardens and their grief, their pain, their anger. And through all that, he stands stoic and unmoved, as if he is unaffected, yet loss is like a long lost friend to him, one he didnât wish to introduce to the people he loved and respected. As whispers interweave into each other, as gasps and lightened cigarettes compose a symphony, Thomas sees remnants of the Truce for a few seconds before he lights a cigarette of his own. This mockery stamps in his mind as he heads for the exit and leaves Leonâs burning body imprinted in his mind and as he enters his car and closes the doors, he finally lets it all out and follows Charlotteâs example, letting out a roar of grief, pain and weakness. Fingers of one hand clutch the wheel while the knuckles of the other rest upon his teeth, white sinking into skin and bruising them for a thousandth, if not millionth time.
It takes him three minutes to compose himself and put on the strong face everyone expects of him; a minute to light a cigarette; forty-five seconds to light another and watch as Wren and Omer approach his car for their own escape. Thomas thinks for one last time of Mortem...
... They will burn, he says to himself.
when. 31st of March, 2021 where. femenias estate who. @rfjofficialâ
The mortifying events of the evening prior still plagued his mind. While many participants of the black-coded event shrieked in horror or proceeded to confrontations, Thomas observed. His reaction of Leonâs scorching was anything but external and he wished he hadnât seen it; wished the cowards hiding behind their masks would die under Famineâs guns and their heads would get tossed in a landfill where they would rot for eternity. Yet today, the morning after, Ackermann stands tall before the welcoming doorframe of the Femenias Estate - an establishment made with exquisite taste and delicate craftsmanship while still upholding tradition in the art of architecture. Many people didnât consider one of Thomasâ specialties an artform but many people are uncultured, so he never bothers explaining the genius behind each and every building painting Londonâs silhouette.
One Rafael Femenias Jr. opens the door for Thomas, a person who he once considered a confidante. It was his broken arm that led to Ackermannâs demotion and everything that followed, and even though that left a burn in his heart, he hopes this meeting is either to attempt rekindle their relationship or plan a slaughter on their new common enemy. Either way works for the boxer. Thomas extends a hand and places his business smile on, a grimace he rarely uses with Famine members yet he feels out of place on these grounds, especially when his family turned against him because of one stupid mistake that seems to have erased all his ten-years-worth-of victories.
âHiding from the world?â Thomas inquiries, onyx eyes meeting Rafaelâs gaze. Last time they were this close and personal was back when Thomas was a Virtue, discussing a next plan of attack, having a whiskey and a cigar or on a lavish party for the most trusted of the family. Now, he is here for an uncertain reason. âHow are you after... well, last evening?â
when. 02.2.2021 where. the banks of thames who. @kashvisâ
It all happened in mere seconds.Â
Just moments ago, he watched as the Pinkett family showed tribute to what felt like it was an omen of war. During his time in the military, Thomas learned to recognize when shit was about to go to hell and this entire event reeked of it. The Power didnât know the times before the Truce, the chaotic feeling of war and how just a single misstep could mean oneâs death unfamiliar to him. The moment Victoriaâs knife connects to Rafael Snr.âs body, countless scenarios tumble in his head one over another. Instinct takes over mind. Thomasâ hand reaches to take hold of his knife, handle held in fist and blade pointing and extending across the length of his forearm. His first reaction and desire is to tackle the Pinkett kid down and escort his Horseman to safety, something he might not have done a few months back when the comfort of being a Virtue ceased to be a reality for him. Yet, he sees more and more confrontations occur with each next second, blocking his pathway to him. In the spur of it all, the sisters vanish.Â
Thomas, the ever observant, notices as Rafael Snr. and his Seraphim make their escape. There is no time for relief settling, he knows, so he continues to scan the perimeter for his people, any Famine member who can be in grave danger. What good were bruised knuckles and muscles if he didnât get to use them for something? He is glad Wren or Omer arenât here, the possibilities of what could happen to them in this chaos endless. His eyes dart to other two familiar faces, Rita and Fletcher, and for a moment his instincts point to them. Thomas understands once the knives were pulled peace ended; he understands that all history between the likes of himself and Rita ceased to exist. And while the question were they enemies now or not, his heart yearns for what couldâve been between them.
He turns to scope the perimeter before making the reckless decision to charge and yell at Rita to get the fuck out of here when he sees Kashvi Singh before him with blade in hand.Â
zhangritaâ:
@thxmackermxnnââ | february 13th | one of the hundred london gyms that isnât elite
After the events at the docks only a couple days prior, Rita has had several days to reflect on her role in the mission, all while recuperating in the Virginia Water home with her husband. There was a door which had appeared to her last month after sleeping with him after the truce anniversary that sheâd never before considered, a life with her old friend Thomas who she knew without a doubt wanted the family sheâd so desperately yearned for the last several years. But that couldnât erase the life sheâd built with Remus Warden and it was clear to her now which man owned her entire heart.Â
Rita knows Thomas is a man of habit and seeks him out at his old gym around the time he always liked to workout. With her Stella McCartney dress and Burberry coat, she doesnât quite blend in with her surroundings even though this is her attempt to dress down. Wrenâs stolen knife sits safely in her pocket as she plans to return it to Thomas as the cut on her arm begins to heal much like the one on her lip. Thereâs a feeling of trepidation as she walks through the machines and racks of weights to find him. After the part she played at the docks Rita wouldnât blame him if that trust is broken or even if his pride is as his crew must know by now what distracted him from noticing her crew sneaking on board.Â
Thatâs what she wants to discuss with him today, where they both stand and what theyâre going to do prevent getting in each otherâs way in the future, if they even have that luxury. Finally she spots him on a machine looking almost fully recovered after that machismo display between him and Remus and she breathes a sigh of relief at the comforting sight of him. Their friendship may be tangled up in the midst of the truce breaking but Rita still wants the best for him, which just might mean that friendship needing to find its end. âHi,â she greets with a soft smile. âYou look like youâre back to your old self.â Her hand rests on the cold metal, emerald wedding ring still not restored to his rightful place as it sat in Remusâ bedside table.
âSo youâve got a ferocious guard dog. I admit I underestimated them.â Proof of that sat clearly on her face along with the bruises hidden beneath the red and pink dress. All Rita had wanted was for Wren to leave the scene and head outside to be with Thomas as the friend she had promised to send him. That things had to get physical between them was a necessary evil of the war they all found themselves in.
-
Eleven days since the gangs were at war again and eight midnights since the weight of a bullet was plunged deep into his self, Thomas isnât going to allow himself a slow recovery or licking of wounds so long he forgets himself. The first workout is always a bitch, his muscles aching for the dopamine he receives from a good train. There was comfort in punching the sand-filled bag when he couldnât punch his troubles away and keeping light weight on his feet, jumping left and right, delivering undercuts and side jabs to his inner demons for two hours and a half straight. The boxer had taken some time off from his office errands and projects, deemed personal reasons. He didnât need to explain himself, he is his own boss after all.Â
Thomas takes a quick turn on the bicep curl machine, placing the metallic weight ring on the heavier side of the metal plates. With every repetition, his brain reenacts the events of the gruesome dock battle; he sees Rita, but not in the light he wanted to see her under, but to be a distraction, trying to play on his heartstrings knowing it would work; the gunshot which planted itself into his body; Wren coming to his aid and dragging him out like the wounded old dog he was. All these empty promises to protect them turn obsolete when he was the one bleeding on the ground. He is disgusted with himself as he recalls being sat in a hospital bed for four days doing nothing but constantly wishing to plant that bullet into Remus Wardenâs fucking gut instead. No wonder the Virtue life left him when fights became tougher and tougher to fight.
And as he finishes a third set, the wolf strolls in his presence in the face of Rita Zhang. Sometimes he wonders if things could have gone differently between them. If the Truce still stood and Remus wasnât ever in the way; if their shared desire for family became true in a world were oneâs allegiance didnât matter. But War had used her as a weapon against him and Thomas is no fool. He knows what that meant for them, their silly dreams and wishes, their funny games. And while his tongue might still be salty with pain and crushed hopes, he at least prays to the Gods that had forgotten him long ago that under no circumstances would he ever have to point a gun at Ritaâs temple.
He grunts at her trying to talk soft yet her voice gets to him and pulls all the same heartstrings she did on the docks. Her greeting is left unanswered, eyes darting to the various users of the gym. Jaw clenches and he bites his tongue before he dares speak. âWhen have I ever allowed a stupid bullet to slow me down? Especially a Bellum Novaâs one.â Thomasâ voice is cold and stoic, yet his eyes finally fall on Rita. âYou invoked them.â he jabs, âGlad Iâve taught them well. Iâll make sure to share with them they got a Dominion good and proper.â The Power tosses a glance from Ritaâs head to her heels, confused look written on his features. âTo what do I owe your presence? Here to shove in my face last weekâs events? Or is your guard dog gonna sprout out from the gymâs parking lot and shoot me in the head this time?â
when. 19.3.2021 where. amaraâs sold property; who. @afrowc
Thomas doesnât usually ask questions in his line of work. It didnât matter if a client wanted a suspicious villa hidden in the forests or a rich bachelor hideout with rooms for sexual endeavors, as long as they paid the cash, Thomasâ lips were sealed closed. He stands in front of a property in the early afternoon with a suit and a coat on, squinted gaze looking at the house that much reminds him of his childhood home - filled with secrets, sold off to be forgotten and now bound to be destroyed. Venturing off to the landfill of memories, he vividly remembers the match heâd lit to set his own fatherâs ruins on fire and visualises the same deed done here, even if on more formal grounds.
Amara Rowe. £ ÂŁ ÂŁ ÂŁ ÂŁ ÂŁ. Signature. Stamp.Â
Thatâs what one of the documents show, an empty form for eviction and destruction sitting in another. Both their names sit on this property, himself as its designer, herself as its inheritor. As Thomas sees Amara approach amidst the bulldozers, wrecking balls and few construction workers, he grits his teeth at the sight of the Pestilence Power. While he knew her late husband better, Thomas got glimpses of the woman before him only on occasions such as balls and events organised in favor of the Truce, which now sits broken and echoes war. He wonders when will the moment come when theyâll ditch the documents in hand and fake smiles on their features and point guns at each other in these times of chaos. Only time will show.
âPleasure seeing you here.â Thomasâ voice drips with formality and a faint note of sarcasm. He extends his hand as the gentleman he was, however. âI think it comes as a surprise for both of us that your buyers want to destroy this thing. Shame.â he says with a click of his tonge, the blueprints of all the hidden rooms in the estate still in his mind. A lot had changed since he joined Famine and Thomas can only imagine what he could find in the labyrinths her husband once ordered. This property still had his name as a designer and issuer so he had to make sure he destroys them with his own hand without rising unnecessary questions. âItâd be nice to hear youâre here for more than just a signature. Sentimentality, maybe?â

when. august 29th, 2017 [ flashback ] where. londonâs suburbs, a landfill who. @realjessicareyesâ
Ackermann has grown accustomed to the feel in the air whenever he were on this kind of job. Despite being late August, the wind is chilly and a mere polo shirt doesnât do the job, so he adorns a light black cardigan on top and a same-shade hat over his head, hands clutching on the wheel of his car. His eyes switch between the road and the person sitting next to him. The first minutes of the ride consist of formalities and greetings until he decides to crack the ice and offer her one of the two already bought coffees. It is easy to know which one was hers - while his own was in a regular-sized cup, hers comes in a noticeably larger one, ( a grande hazelnut macchiato with an extra espresso shot if he recalls correctly ) his own self still wondering how heâd managed to remember her order anyway. Thomas offers it to her on a stoplight, eyes glued on the features of the young Angel. âThought you might like it in this late hour.â He isnât ready for the rage of a woman and her wrong coffee order, but he is almost certain he got it right. Tonight is no place for being the dick teacher he is used to be and there was no time for picking up new skills or training her brain to think differently. Tonight is the exam, so to speak.Â
Thomas parks the car in the dead of night, amidst nothing but acres of abandoned and rotten crop fields and a gigantic, vile landfill on the other side of the car. The atmosphere in the vehicle is tense. One can hear two sets of breathing, one composed, controlled and steady, while the other uncertain, filled with questions and anticipation. He looks at his partner in crime and wonders if she is prepared to get her hands dirty. The two of them are a stark contrast, he believes; a weapon and a cataclysm in one seat and a delicate, flower-spoken diamond in the other. Jessica Reyes is one of Famineâs jewels, a young woman who Thomas knows can make people do her bidding just by a single smile, a few carefully selected words and the right manners. Tonightâs job will be exactly the opposite. Unlike most other high-rankers in the gang, the newly-appointed Virtue believes in the importance of truly showing what the dirty work is composed of to the Angels and Powers. Delusions and keeping them safe, unscarred, unseen of the uglier stuff behind the scenes isnât to his liking. Thomas never forced the Angel next to him to come too, she had volunteered and thatâs what piqued his interest; perhaps Jessica didnât want to be known only for her perfect FemEn resume in front of her Famine superiors.
âTell me how you feel.â he begins, perhaps a bit unexpected. One would never think Thomas Ackermann cares of a low-rankerâs feelings. âThe last minutes of honesty are right now, you can still forfeit if you want. You can be honest with me.â His elbow rests on the back of his seat, upper body twists in Jessicaâs direction. Onyx gaze studies her reaction and hopes she still wants to do this.
âwhen. 21st of march; late at night; around 11 p.m. where. a corner right next to âelite londonâ who. @kittym
Thomas isnât exactly thrilled heâs here, but with a foot pressed against a wall and his other leg extended to support his weight, he waits patiently. This little mission was not his forte but he is adaptable, fully knowing any mistake could cost them their life. He still thinks like a Virtue, the entrances and corners of Elite London almost inscribed on the palm of his hand from the countless fights he used to have back when the Truce was still unbroken. With War controlling the place now, Kittyâs quest for scouting its perimeter for signs of Leon will prove to be difficult, but the fighter had always loved a challenge.Â
He wouldâve preferred to not be in the presence of his under thrower, though.
Cocking his head to one side his onyx eyes lock on Kitty strolling to him as if she owns the place, a feeling he begins to forget now, even though he wonât ever allow to show weakness in the presence of Famineâs members, and especially not in front of his new Virtue. It still bites on his tongue, it still feels as a wound being re-opened how they swapped places in the blink of an eye. He still wonders if she enjoyed watching him rank below her, if that gave her a sense of power, despite her saving his life a month ago. Thomas tries to shake his feelings away, his shortcomings are ultimately his own fault. They are unimportant for the task at hand - finding Leon. Black was the attire for tonight, from head to feet. He fixes his hat and hood firmer on his head and kicks himself off the wall, crossing arms in front of Kittyâs graceful figure. âSo whatâs the plan?â he asks, his body standing titanic, âSurely you have one.â Eyes squint as he inquires, testing and challenging his new Virtue and ex-student, the spitting image of him in terms of action amidst the ranks of the gang.Â
when. tuesday, 30th of march; where. wrenâs flat; who. @oflightfeetâ
Thomasâ footsteps arenât light and poised in this moment; they are filled with heaviness, the heels of his shoes attempting to sink into the concrete with each next one taken. Eyes shoot upwards the exterior of the boring, in Thomasâ eyes, building, knowing exactly which window was Wrenâs. He canât help but imagine what whoever-the-fuck organised this spectacle wanted. For all Thomas knows, tonight is going to be a calamity and behind his cold-steel face, he takes it upon himself to be the first to act should stuff go to hell. And then there is Wren. The unexpected, in this case, scared him. He doesnât know what will unfold before their eyes tonight - a weak threat or a death show - but his sights will be focused on them before many others, even if he seems like a statue when nervous or right before he explodes with anger; the question is, which one will it be?
He is sure Wren can hear his march-like steps already as he climbs the stairs and he fixes his suit upon arrival. In the seconds before his hand reaches for the doorbell Thomas takes a deep breath, something he always did before meeting them. It took a lot of self control to remain strong when standing in the presence of Wren Lightfoot. For him, they were not a mere Angel, a person who fetches coffee and is concerned with spoiling the higher ranks or doing their dirty work. With time, they grew on him, each action and moment the two shared together reminding him of his late daughter. Each time these memories tried to penetrate and overflow Thomasâ mind he bit the inner part of his lip, sometimes even allowing red drops of blood to color his tongue; and he does bite into his flesh lightly as they open the door right after the bell fills the corridor with its ring.Â
âAre you ready kid?â he asks immediately, stern and with a brow cocked up. His expression is still friendly, more caring than his usual intimidating. As he walks in, he lowers his voice. âYouâve got your knife, correct?â It is no surprise that a question for their safety is the first thing on Thomasâ mind. If as little as a single hair falls from their head, he will burn the Cathedral if he had to. âDo I have to refresh any tips and tricks with it, just in case?â he speaks with a little sarcasm, but with an added softness to it, a sly smile creeping on his lips.
âIt was his new normal again. The scars on his body reopened, new ones appeared. The fighting rings, once again, rekindled a long-lost flame he yearned to reignite somewhere deep in himself.â

You fall from grace and look at the shards of your reflection in a broken mirror before picking yourself up, chin held high. Life is tough but youâre tougher. You had cracked under the pressure and now you have settled at the bottom to realise that, maybe, this is what suits you. Youâre made from rigid stone, carved from grit, and the jobs provided the the lower ranks allow you to slip into your true nature. Still the need for redemption snags between your teeth, telltale signs in the clenching of your jaw. You may be created from the earth, dirtied with the grime youâve design yourself from, but you will shine golden again. Â
ROLE.
Demoted from Virtue to Power off the back of a police raid on an illegal betting shop that fell under your control, youâve diligently taken up the dirty grunt work. No longer in a position of authority, you fall to Famineâs loose ends. Your experience helps, knowing where best to hide the bodies and how to get answers out of someone. And at least thereâs one thing they canât take from you, one thing you know will shine in your favour, youâre a damn good fighter with a passion for boxing. Famineâs best, some might say, when you enter the ring and cash in bets to build your bosses empire. And maybe, someday, your own.

FATA VIAM INVENIENT.
November, 2020
It is with somber footsteps that Thomas enters what has remained of the building again, a morbid glimmer of what once were masquerade balls, lavish dinners and socialites from all over Britain gathered in the Ackermann estate. The walls still hold a whisper of their long-gone glory, despite the misery of the place. Autumn leafs and spider webs had woven their way to the broken ceiling, wooden debris scattered on the ground next to him. The wrecking ball, which once caused the destruction of the place still stands colossal like an omen of death. He growls as he inspects the ruins, spitting on top of the dirt-stained tiles. Memories flood his brain; memories he avoided for so many years, neck cracking left and right in an attempt to stop their advance. They are like a war-machine though, a brutal force to be reckoned in, nipping at his brain and sanity.
But why not give in? Thomas Ackermann, ex-Virtue of Famine now humiliated to a Power, a dog, a nobody.
His eyes scan the building his father once owned, the moonlit night sky painting the cracks in-between the marble columns and statues. Black elegant shoes turn at their heel only to hit against the shards of the now broken grand hall mirror, a symbol of himself. Thomas squints as he takes a last puff of his cigarette, the smoke leaving his lungs in a thick cloud. As it dissipates, he tosses it away, leaving it to die and rot in the ruins of his childhood. He glances at the broken pieces of glass on the ground - their form jagged, sizes variable - and maybe in a moment of delusion or a fruit of his fantasy, they take different shapes and their reflection loses the image of his own body. Bruised knuckles clench as he realises he did give in despite all. He allowed himself a moment of weakness. Fingers graze over some of the shards before he finally picks one up, inspecting it and letting it speak for itself.
It takes the form of a boyâs silhouette, its reflection showing the glamour and dazzle of his childhood. Events, parties, money and everything that he ever wanted. His father, Noah Ackermann, usually never spoke to his guests or partners as many of them didnât really know sign language, but the face of the Ackermann patriarch was usually adjoined with the one of his mother, Abigail. It was safe to say she ran the family more than Noah did, but Thomasâ fragile age never grasped that in time. It was she who ran the finances, made the deals and used the person who owned the money as her drive to manipulate him and earn more for herself. Her plan was devilish with a knife behind her back. The young boy didnât really care anyway, he was busy getting drunk in his teens with his rich friends who took every opportunity to use his social standing to their gain. Spoilt was the life of the boy in the shard he sees, flawless, pristine and careless.
Another glass piece trembles and his sights focus on it. Kingâs College was the place where the feisty and bitey by nature Thomas found his true calling. The smell of the boxing ring and the gym, of sweat, blood and tears once brought joy on his face. His studies were often put to the back, the art of Estate Management not deemed his forte. It was a new thrill that blinded the young Ackermann, one unbeknown to him by that point. The mirror shard sparks flames in his eyes as he sees his fists collide with peopleâs jaws, the blood in their teeth dripping as he ravaged upon them in underground fights, boxing tournaments for glory and cash, party moshes or the person who he fell madly in love with - a person who stabbed him in the back and ignited what he now was. A fighter on command. Last thing before his life changed completely was his loverâs broken nose and fractured skull, hospital medics and police cuffs.
It was his expulsion from Kingâs College due to multiple occasions of aggressive behaviour that his mother used as an excuse to put metaphorical cuffs on his wrists and threaten him with jail time for his crimes of almost killing a person or serve the Military, a notice signed and sent by his own fatherâs hand ( but really, with his motherâs intentions ). Abigail saw that Thomas would be dangerous for her viper plans and what would be an easier way to get rid of him than to send him away? The army taught him discipline and lethality, fueled his anger and showed him how his bruised knuckles and deadly weapons could be used correctly. Four years of service and Iâm out, he once thought; and he did get out, only to be met with his house destroyed and his father dead, his mother nowhere to be found with all their money, probably sipping champagne on a yacht. He hoped the bitch would rot back then.
Thomas tosses the shard glass into the other pile in an act of anger, blood dripping from the skin of his palm never realising how hard he had clenched on it. He tries to fight the need to scream but what did it matter anyway? Canât get lower than the bottom of the ditch. It was as if the broken mirror sings his story in a minor key - the years after the army when he picked up a new degree in Architecture, when he found the love of his life, when he met the face of his firstborn child, his daughter named Emma. The man had learned how to love and cherish, to protect and to care. Thomas still remembered her delicate features and the innocence she carried with her, he vowed before his wife, himself and the Gods that not a hair would fall from the babeâs head. He had somehow managed to pick up his life and rebuild it, yet the broken shards in his fatherâs ruins are singing a Requiem. The grotesque images of his wife and child on the hospital beds letting out their final breaths after a brutal car accident followed, imagery that still tortured him in his nightmares.Â
As their souls went into the afterlife, he stopped recognizing love, the familiar touch of a hug and the comfort of a person next to him, supporting him and loving him unfamiliar. Suddenly his time was spent lonely again, whisky in hand, puffs of cigarettes, bruised knuckles and bloody nose hidden underneath light coats of makeup for his day work affairs. It was his new normal again. The scars on his body reopened, new ones appeared. The fighting rings, once again, rekindled a long-lost flame he yearned to reignite somewhere deep in himself.
A raven flies into the ruins of the manor and lands on the biggest shard of the scattered pieces as tears dripple over Thomasâ cheeks, his stern look locking contact with the animal. It scatters away as he approaches the piece, lifting it high in the sky as he smears his wet cheekbones dry.
In it Thomas sees the faces of the people who had seen him in the pits and recruited him to Famine. Joining out of grief, his cards close to his chest, the man quickly proved what a valuable asset he was to the gang. It was a long journey to become a Virtue - cash deals, people killed, nasty fights in the ring - but there he felt in control and in the right place which was a vague feeling. His specialty quickly became hiding evidence and bodies and for once he thanked his military service for the interrogation skills he picked up on, which were of great importance to the gang. Thomas was well rewarded for them. Where better to exert chaos than amidst the riches of Femenias family, their fighting pits and shady deals? Lashing out commands left and right to Angels and Powers and scheming the grand plans with his superiors which ended in either bloodshed or violence was like a drug to him, and still is. Such acts were his best friend, the chaos that seethed from the mafia gangs and fed his dead heart forcing it to beat again. It was through Famine he found Abigail, his mother, and killed her, with himself dealing the final blow by drowning her in her own pool at the estate she had built herself there with his stolen money. The luxuries of being a Virtue and having power and connections.
Only after a few seconds he notices the crack in the massive glass piece and he is reminded why heâs here all along. His new family, his new partners in crime belittled him after a single mistake which led to his demotion. A betting shop under his control, seized even after his countless protections resulting in Famine losing a hefty sum of money and the death of an important informant, forcing them to go underground and lick their wounds for some time which led to even more losses. Mind scrambles for the disgraceful and disappointed looks of the Femenias family or the mocking gaze of Kitty Malick. From giving orders to taking orders; from a place of power to a place of obedience. Â
Thomas inhales a deep breath and the fragrance of the gasoline he had spread across the crumbled estate earlier fills his lungs. Lighting the match that would end it all, he remembers Rafael Femenias Sr. striking his final verdict and putting him back at the starting line. As he tosses it into the piles of ruins he remembers the feeling when he saw all these years of hard work go to waste. When flames engulf his surroundings Thomas glances back at the pile of broken shards and sees himself for the first time instead of rubbish memories that held him back to unleash his full potential. As a Power now, he is expected to be a monster. He sees the man he will re-introduce to Famine and the man who is ready to commit atrocities in the name of the gang just to rise to the top again and prove he isnât full of shit, muscle with no brain used to earn them money through fights.
Thomas doesnât want to be a phoenix risen from the ashes; Thomas wants to be the monster who creates the ashes and feeds the void in his heart and with his reputation crushed and years of progress destroyed, crimson blood is all he sees and tastes. He is no longer a broken mirror, that shit burned to the ground together with his past. Now, he is a force to be reckoned with and he will stop at nothing to get back in the light of glory, even if it means bloodshed. Â
CONNECTIONS.
Kitty. You feel your jaw tense as they mock you for where you now stand, despite having been the one to teach Kitty what they know. Itâs infuriating to have a weapon you helped sharpen take to cutting you.
Ikki. You know the way to climb the ladder, youâve done it before, and you will do it again. Ikki is the key to your promotion, their opinions and words influential to the higher ranks of the gang. You aim to impress them, by offering your hand to any of their needs.
Sacha. Thereâs something suspicious about them, something that doesnât sit right. You think they could be useful, to manipulate the manipulator by leading them on. To lie about your intrigue in their cause in order to get your own information to feed back to your superiors.
One batch, Two batch, Penny and dime.
