I’ve been thinking about Beyoncé’s song tyrant a lot. Even more so now it’s trending. It’s mostly the lyrics “Hangman, answer me now. You owe me a debt, you stole him from me.”
There’s a sort of collective agreement in the fandom that Bradley and Jake are exes, right? Have we considered that Hangman was created after their break up? That Jake was scared to let anyone get close to him again, scared to show vulnerability, and most of all scared to show his heart.
Another lyric from the song, “how did you turn your heart to stone?” It feels like Bradley being forced to see Hangman in full swing, especially in the bar scene from the movie. That scene to me feels as though Bradley’s really seeing what his Jake had turned into. Proof the break up affected Jake just as much as it did Bradley.
Or something like that anyway.
