Tiana’s family never had much when it came to material possessions. James and Eudora tried their very best but they often didn’t have the money to buy Tiana new clothes or toys. Luckily, Eudora was a seamstress and often just made clothes for her daughter so she wouldn’t get made fun of by her peers. Tiana picked up some of her mother’s sewing skills and can certainly patch up her clothes if she needs to, but she’s nowhere near as talented a seamstress as her mother. 

Tiana keeps her father’s distinguished service cross. It’s one of her most prized possessions and she goes into a panic if she can’t find it. When she first moved to Corona she couldn’t find it for a few hours and was honestly an emotional wreck. 

Tiana hopes to be half as brave, hardworking and good of a person as her father was. Her parents are her biggest inspiration in life. 

Whenever James would cook he’d play Stevie Wonder. He used to pick Tiana up and put her on his shoulders and they’d spin around the kitchen while they sang along. “As” became their little song. James would always sing it to her as an affirmation that he’d always be her soldier. To this day, that song makes her cry. 

Tiana didn’t go to her high school prom because she’d asked her boss for more hours and that was the only time he could schedule her. She felt horrible telling the poor boy who’d asked her that she wouldn’t go anymore, but she’s sure he understood. 

The morning of her high school graduation her boss asked her if she could come because someone called out and she honestly considered skipping graduation to go work. She would have if she wasn’t sure her mother and nana would kill her. 

James a was a huge jazz fan and most of the music Tiana listens to is jazz or old school R&B because of it. It also keeps her calm and relaxed. 

Tiana’s been asked out by a few boys in high school and she’d only went out with one of them. Not because she didn’t like those other boys but because she just didn’t have the time. And the one she did go out with only happened because one of her friend’s all but forced her to. He was sweet, so it worked out in the end until she inevitably broke up with him because a relationship was just another responsibility and commitment she couldn’t take on at the time. 

Tiana is always looking to try new foods and learn new things about other people’s cultures and their cuisine. 

Tiana is deeply superstitious and unashamed of it. She’d never tread too far into the bayous back home because her nana always told her stories of voodoo queens in the bayous and she just doesn’t believe in messing with things like that. She respects their practices and beliefs, but keep it at a distance. 

While she know it’s against the rules Tiana will offer to feed people in need who come by looking for a meal. She understands how rough it can be, and if she can’t sneak them a meal she’ll at least pay for it out of her own pocket. 

Tiana keeps her hair up almost all the time. She works in food service and it’s both sometimes a requirement but also easier to manage. She almost doesn’t recognize herself with her hair down, and honestly thinks she looks weird with it down. 

Tiana is a hard person to grab food with. As a chef she appreciates well made food, but in the same breath is very picky when it comes to poorly made food. If it’s too salty she’s upset, not enough garlic and she can’t bring herself to eat it. But if it’s well made she’s known to go out of her way to express her compliments to the chef. 

Tiana knows that if she keeps going the way she is, she will eventually burn herself out. And she definitely hears her loved ones' warnings and concern but she needs to make her father’s dream work. She has to. It’s what he deserved. 

Her entire life she has been told no because she’s a black woman from a struggling family, and honestly she is God damned sick of it. It breaks her heart to see the disadvantages she faces because of things out of her control, and knows that there are those who have it way harder than her. She knows it’s not much but she tries to at least RT links to entrepreneurs and creatives of color who post go fund me links for their businesses. If she can spare the money she donates. 

Tiana hasn’t been to a doctor in ages. She has health insurance, she just can’t find the time to go. Plus, she’s young, what’s the worst that can happen? 

Living in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit was a traumatic experience for the young girl. She gets very anxious during reports of storms and natural disasters and can’t shake the images of all the devastation and lives lost. She was only a little girl at the time but she’s sure that will stick with her forever. 

Sometimes Tiana wishes she could have just lived a normal life. She’d been working since she was old enough to get working papers, hell even before then she’d baby sat for some of the ladies at church for a small fee. Her life had always been filled with nothing but school and work. She thinks if things were different she would have been a cheerleader or something.

“thanks! i was trying to get pants that were also glittery and have the shift sequins, but i couldn’t find them anywhere - so i just went with the dress instead,” they explain the rest of their outfit, despite the fact that the girl didn’t ask. as her arm was held out, riley grinned and eagerly wrapped their own around the girl’s, shuffling a little bit closer so their shoulders brushed as well as they started heading towards the drink table. “that’s so pretty! i’m just plain old riley. nothing exciting there. i don’t even really have a cool nickname either.”

“that’s probably for the best,” tiana nods. she might not be the most fashionable person in the world, but she couldn’t imagine a full suit in the same sequined pattern as their suit jacket would look good. “it’d probably be a bit overwhelming together. and the dress looks nice.” tiana hadn’t necessarily asked but she was always willing to listen to someone who had something to say. “no, riley is a nice name too.” to be honest tiana had never given much thought to her name or anyone else’s for that matter. “well, i’m sure if you ask your friends to give you one they would.” or so she hoped, because tiana is in no way creative enough to be giving people cool nicknames and she’d honestly try if riley said they didn’t have anyone else to. once they arrive at the drink table, tiana reaches for the stack of cups, fully prepared to just pour their new friend a glass of water despite their earlier protest. “what would you think is a cool nickname anyway?” maybe is she kept them distracted while tiana got the water riley wouldn’t even notice.

Wandering through the party with drink in hand, Naveen had long ago ditched his mask. It might have been technically against the rules but he hardly cared; he didn’t spend the past few months as a frog to hide his good looks now. Weaving through the crowed in search of Eric or Flynn, they’re completely forgotten from his mind as soon as he hears Tiana’s familiar voice. “My pretty face, huh?” Naveen grins, unable to let that slide without saying something. In all the time they’ve known each other, Tiana has never seemed anything but unimpressed by him. And while there’s a part of him that knew it was at least in part an act (how could anyone not find him beautiful?) the confirmation means more to him than he could ever possibly admit. It’s certainly not the ego boost he needs, but he finds his already inflated confidence growing all the same. “I finally found someone to change me back,” he admits, though he is a little embarrassed it took him so long to think of Eris. “I would’ve done it sooner if I knew you missed looking at me.”

“well,” tiana smiles brightly, hardly phased by the way he questions her kind of compliment. under normal circumstances she would never even entertain the idea of acknowledging the fact that he’s attractive, aware that his ego doesn’t need the boost. but, with a drink in hand and excitement pulsing through her she hardly thinks to catch herself. “you were a frog before...it’s not hard to take a step up from that face, but you are pretty naveen.” she says it matter of factly, like he should already know that. “oh?” she shouldn’t be as surprised as she is given the rampant magic that seemed to run wild on the island. but up until Halloween night when everyone disappeared, Tiana hardly gave the talk of magic much thought because it hardly mattered to her. so of course he was able to find someone to do it. “i didn’t miss looking at you.” and that’s complete honesty, she didn’t spend time with naveen enough to even really notice much of a change. “but i know you probably weren’t having much fun as a frog so im glad you’re back to normal.”

shaggy could not get it out of his head how tiana said she wasn’t asked out ever. it bothered him on a personal level, actually. he thought tiana was the grooviest girl ever and that she deserved to be swept off her feet. so he was determined to do that. he got a new suit at the thrift store, did his hair for once, and smoked lightly before making his way to the apartment tiana shared with her friends. knocking on the door with one hand, flowers in his other hand, and a nervous smile on his face, he gently spoke through the door, praying tiana was the first one to answer. “i….i like, am looking for tiana. if she is not busy and all.”

with lottie and roxanne out for the night, tiana planned to just hang out at the house and watch the cooking channel with stella and princess curled up next to her. and being that both of her roommates (who had more of a life than she allowed herself to) were gone she wasn’t expecting anyone to stop by. so when there’s a knock at the door she half expects it to be star coming over for impromptu cuddling and baking again. “hey shaggy,” tiana greets with a smile, pleasantly surprised when her eyes fall on shaggy after opening the door. “what’s up?” though, it’s kind of clear whats up if the suit and flowers are any indication. but still, she has to ask. “what’s the occasion?”

shaggy has had a productive night considering the fact that he didn’t want to actually be there. smoking outside with new friends made his mind a lot more clear, so by the time he had run into tiana he was in a better mood by far. she only made his mood even better. he wrapped his arms around her instantly in a quick hug, grinning when he pulled away. “hi tia. how are you? are you having fun?” he hoped so. if anyone deserved to have fun at parties, it was her. she worked so hard, she deserved to party harder. “do you have a hot date? will he kick my butt for hugging you?” shaggy looked around a little. it wasn’t fear, more so not wanting to make anyone mad, and someone as beautiful as tiana was sure to have a date. “and i could never live with myself if i made you sad, so here i am.”

“ooooh so much fun!” tiana nods with a bright smile. it was probably a different tune than most people would have taken regarding the night, finding the music and overall party itself to be a bit too fancy to have been that much fun. but tiana hardly went to any parties so she had very little to compare the experience to — besides she’d gotten to spend time with all of her friends which was plenty fun to her. “the music was a little...different at first,” even in her current state she doesn’t have the heart to say a bad thing about the old DJ. “but then my glittery blonde friend took over and it got better. so i’m having a great time, how about you?” tiana can’t imagine a event where shaggy didn’t find a way to have fun, but she still has to make sure. “don’t be silly, of course i don’t have a date.” tiana had never really been the girl people ask to the dance, primarily because everyone who knew her knew the answer would be no. hell, initially her roommates hadn’t even been sure if she was coming, and tiana had tried to pick up a shift at the diner but her boss insisted she had at least one holiday off. “i came with my roommates. do you have a date?”

a bright giggle escapes riley’s lips at the question, finding the concept of being called a sweetpea to be absolutely adorable. “you talk so cute,” they compliment before they can think about how weird of a comment that is. by this point they probably should have pulled away and moved on, but riley didn’t really want to. there was something calming about the girl they’d bumped into and her cute little accent. “thanks! i’m glittery!” pulling their hand back from the girl’s arms, they ran it up and down over their jacket to show off the way the sequences flipped to change colors. “oh no, i’m not thirsty. but we could get some more punch! it’s rumberry and real good.”

whatever concern tiana’s feeling regarding the stranger’s state only doubles when they tell her she talks cute. but regardless, she accepts the compliment with a smile and a quiet laugh. “thank you,” she nods, not really sure what else there is to say. “you are glittery, it’s a nice look.” as confused as tiana is, what she’s saying to the blonde is genuine as she really does like their jacket. tiana herself could never imagine wearing it, but it seems almost fitting for the blonde. “ok, yeah. come we’ll go get some punch together.” tiana nods slowly, holding out her arm for the blonde to take. she has no real intentions of letting the stranger walk away without having some water but tiana is willing to play along for the sake of making sure they’re ok. “i’m tiana, by the way.” an introducton is the first step in finding out where this person’s friends were.

Formalities aside and that need to attend with a distinguished dress, not one could deny that this event was far of boring or tedious, trying to focus more with the idea that this was something special that won’t happen again in a long time . And Stitch was determined to have a fun night, no matter if Nani had forbidden him to attend with that striking bow tie with green aliens printed on its surface. Also, who could be the stupid one that could deny free food? Someone with no brain. Looking at Tiana with a happy smile, curiosity did not take long to be noticed when mentioning that dessert called Semiffredo, putting a quizzed expression as if it were a foreign word of difficult pronunciation. “Is that a real word or if something you made up? Quite imaginative.” No matter if she was holding two cups in from of him, or that if what was said could make him look like an idiot in front of the woman, no doubts would be left without talking. Eyes stared at the dessert, then his eyes to engulf in continuous succession until finally the hand slowly opened, almost as if it were a silent permission to give a chance as the fingers closed on the glass handle. Tasting it was not an act of speed, taking time to look at it, smell it and carefully brush the texture, making a surprised face when noticing coldness. “What an interesting mix, you really have a good taste Ti.” It may be exaggerated, but a man has a series of own protocols and would comply with them. Taking a test bite, Stitch’s eyes widened as if somethinf wonderful just happened, taking almost all willpower not to devour that piece. “Is it bad to say that I would kill just to enjoy this treasure for the rest of my life?” Quirky way to say that he love the piece, but who cares abot that righ now? Mask gives an atmosphere of secrecy and mystery, peculiarities that did not fit his way of being. Raising the glass as a sign of toast, excited smile and affectionate sparkle in the eyes, words couldn’t sound more energetic and sweet for that person who was like a sister. “We should toast to you! To us! To the days off and the vacations that still await us! For sticking together to the end?”

tiana can’t even fault him for the way he questions if semifreddo is a real word, it hardly sounds like one. but still, she can’t help the little giggle that leaves her lips because of it. “yeah it’s a real word stitch. it means semi frozen.” which made a lot of sense when Tiana thought about it, but up until this moment she hadn’t given it much consideration. as she watches stitch inspect the dessert tiana smiles, willing to sit back and do this for as long as he needs to. as someone who is icredibly picky about her food she can’t really fault him. “thank you. i wouldn’t ever give you something that won’t be worth the shot in the dark.” or at least she hopes stitch knows this by now. food was her passion, her life. so, when stitch’s face lights up at his first bite tiana can’t stop the bright smile that grows on her face, genuinely excited and thrilled that she found him a treat he likes. “that’s how mr. la bouff feels about a good beignet so no not weird.” what is weird? the fact that lottie calls her father big daddy, and the way both la bouff’s insist tiana doesn’t need to be so formal when she regards him but she won’t ever be using that pet name for him. even if he was like a second father to her. “oooh, okay yeah.” tiana picks up another glass of semifreddo for herself, and clinks her glass against stitch’s. “to days off! and new opportunities,” she pointedly leaves out good tips at work because she doesn’t need a lecture about needing to have more fun. “and great friends!”

the ball had been a blur of faces and events, all of which tiana barely even registered. she couldn’t even begin to tell anyone who she’d spent the bulk of her night with, countless glasses of champagne and quick conversations with familiar faces something she’d long ago lost track of. normally this would alarm her, but tonight she was sure she’d never been to a more fun event. so, it only makes sense that as the close of the evening creeps up she finally finds one of her favorite people — there was no better way to end the night, she was certain. “shaggy!” she giggles, bouncing on her toes once she’s face to face with him. “you’re here! i was worried you’d skipped out on it!” it didn’t really seem like his vibe at all, and there was always the obvious factor of he couldn’t get away with bringing his beloved dog to this thing. “which it would have been fair if you didn’t want to come that’s totally understandable, but it would have made me sad.” @zoinksduude

very little can deter tiana. she’s always been known to have unstoppable focus, and apparently being tipsy isn’t something that would stop that. so as she zips through the group of people gathering around, tiana is caught off guard when something manages to actually get her to stop. or rather someone. suddenly all hopes of finding wendy, lottie and roxanne are gone and tiana changes direction. “naveen?” she asks, eyes narrowed in confusion even though she knows for a fact that’s who she’s looking at. but she hasn’t seen him as a human in so long there’s a moment where she’s not sure, a moment where she doubts whatever spell was put on him had actually worn off. “oh darlin’, you got your pretty face back!” she cups his face in her hands, happy excited smile on her own face as she looks at it. “i’m so happy for ya’ — but how’d you manage this?” @naveenmaldonia

“you don’t think they’re gonna wanna check our ids, do ya?” she asks, turning to look at her best friend. the two were waiting in line for drinks and as good as the blueberry ginger fizz sounded, lottie wanted something stronger. she had no real intentions of getting wasted at this event, but a nice little buzz was always fun. though if that bartender asked to see some form of identification she knew they’d both be screwed. “surely they gotta know no one’s carryin’ around a purse at this kind of event.” @tiasbeignets​

tiana was almost certain that you could lose your liquor liscense (and get fined) for selling alcohol to minors by not checking id. or at least she was pretty sure that was the risk for restaurants. but lottie seemed hopeful that they could get a drink so she smiles and keeps that fact to herself. “look how long this line is,” tiana gestures to the line ahead of them. “i doubt they’re taking the time or card people.” which, tiana does genuinely think. she knows often in the rush of a busy shift sometimes you neglect the things you normally wouldn’t — hopefully that worked in their favor tonight. “if anyone could figure out how to make a purse work tonight it’d be you. or at least a sparkly clutch or something.”

spinning around to make their dress poof out, riley wasn’t paying any real attention to where they were going. the alcohol was well on their way to working, likely the reasoning behind what happened next. bumping into a girl, the blonde stumbled a bit and reached out to grab the stranger’s arms to keep themself from falling over. “wooaah,” they breathe out, not moving for a second to make sure they were absolutely stable. once riley was certain they weren’t going to topple over, they stand up a bit straighter and grin at their semi-victim. “sorry. my bad.” the apology comes out with a drunken giggle that only lasts for a second. “woww. you look so pretty!” @tiasbeignets​

most people would find themselves agitated when a stranger bumps into them. but tiana only lets out a quiet sound of surprise, placing a hand over the hands of the blonde who grabs onto her as they steady themself. “you alright sweetpea?” she asks, concern dripping off her words as they stand upright again. “no, no need to apologize. just glad you didn’t fall.” and she means it, no harm had come to either of them and in the end that’s all that really mattered. “oh,” tiana looks down at her dress, as if the stranger complimenting her is the first time she registered that she was dressed up. “thanks. you look really nice too.” but the bright smile that touches her face only lasts for a moment before she’s back to trying to help. “can i get you a glass of water or somethin’?”

barrel hadn’t had plans to come to the ball initially, too stuffy and bougie for him. he hated being around these super rich people but he missed sibella and was tired of fighting. he figured showing up wouldn’t hurt considering how they fought at the winter festival. right now, that was the last thing on his mind though. “ hello??? “ he says in confusion. this wasn’t the tiana he was used to. she was being affectionate and loud.” i am here, “ he repeats, amusement clear on his face. “ clearly not having as much fun as you. “ he laughs, loving this too much.

“hello!” tiana repeats excitedly. barrel’s confusion going completely over her head in her tipsy state. she lets go of him, taking a step back so she can get a good look at him. she’d known almost immediately it was barrel, the combination of the mask and the choice of suit a dead giveaway — his sense of fashion easy for her to point out at this point. “well that’s not fun, how can i help make your night more fun?” she asks with a frown. even intoxicated tiana was still willing to do whatever she could to help a friend, but if she was sober she certainly wouldn’t be taking this particular task as seriously as she is.

everyone around her was quickly learning who she was with a few drinks in her system. tiana wasn’t necessarily in the right state of mind to determine whether or not she particularly liked this louder, bolder, more affectionate version of herself. in the morning she’d undoubtedly have some regrets, but right now she was just along for the ride. “barrel!” she squeals, running over to him with outstretched arms the second she sees him. “you’re here! i didn’t think you’d come! are you having fun?” she hugs him tightly, smiling up at him. @fckbernardo

had you told tiana earlier that she would find herself bouncing around the ball with more alcohol in her system than she’s ever had, she’d consider you a liar. but here she is, arms wrapped around roxanne and nuzzling her face into her neck as if snuggling at their table wasn’t kind of weird. even weirder for tiana who’d never partake in so much public affection. “did you know you’re the prettiest girl in the whole world?” she asks, honesty and well intent dripping off her words. “you and lottie and wendy are the prettiest girls! and you’re so sweet and smart and i love you so so so much.” pulling back momentarily, she looks at roxanne deeply and seriously into her eyes as if they’re talking about something far more serious than how much tiana loves her. @rcxannemartin
