You were always faster than me. I'll never catch up with you.
Their legs tangled together, Tatiana’s fingers slipped into the shorn stubble on his head, her free arm holding his shoulder. It was a little uncomfortable, but she didn’t mind. “Half-six,” She murmured against his skin, wishing to never let go lest his warmth leave her again. He burned like a furnace, and if she weren’t still half-asleep, she might have checked his temperature. Technically, they weren’t supposed to be doing this— whatever it was. She looked after him, that was that. But they needed healing in ways a good doctor could never provide, and he had helped her just as much as she did him. They didn’t often kiss, or cuddle or hold hands, but it made every private moment that much sweeter when they did. Her lips pressed to his forehead, to his temple and cheekbone, before she kissed the tip of his nose. Tiberius’ good arm held her hip tightly, and pulled her close. “I dreamed about you again.”
Tiberius' fingers gripped her hip once, flexing and contracting as they lay side by side--forever equal. Half six, his mind whispered eliciting an internal groan because it was almost time for the day to begin and the hive to operate as one. "What was it this time?" He asked her quietly, eyes opening up immediately to see her face as his hand wove through her blonde hair. Her reaction--if it was good or bad; it didn't sound like a nightmare but Tatiana was a pro at hiding things that were just too close to personal. The thing about Tiberius was that he was a miner by trade really, chipping away at marble and brushing away the dust was his specialty.
"You sound like a chainsaw when you snore," She muttered, rubbing sleep from her eyes with a laugh in her voice. He moved like a newborn calf in the morning, and more than once had misjudged the weight of his arm and toppled over. Tatiana reached her arms out and moved onto her back. She was still yawning, still half-asleep, and probably had morning breath, but she wanted him at her side. Was it so much to ask, after all they’d done? "C’here."
He moved into her arms easily, like it was second nature because in a way it was--almost as close to breathing since they worked as a single entity. A District Two machine that no Thirteen citizens could ever alter or get in between. Tiberius threw a leg over her own toned and muscular one, huffing out a sleepy breath that was as content as he'd be that day--before they had to make an appearance and give a damn. His metal arm lay awkwardly both under and to the side of him, yet another assurance that it was unnatural for he never was subjected to the lack of circulation such a position granted. Tatiana never judged that he still didn't like the thing; though he was glad when she stopped getting that guilty shaded look in her eyes every time she looked at it ('What, am I rusting?' He asked her one evening as a joke, to lighten her up again because the tension was thick and unbearable. 'Shut up,' she answered him back before muttering an idiot and tossing her pillow at him.)."'ime is it anyway, Ti?" He felt like a cat the way her nails scraped his skull causing a shiver to run down his body and his arm to tighten around her hips.
In District Two, Tatiana usually woke to the sound of pickaxes off in the mine, or her mother busying herself around the kitchen. Definitely not this, the snoring that would have infuriated her if it weren’t for the perpetrator. Ty slept on his back, one arm splayed out, the steel clutched to his chest. From across the room she could have thrown her pillow, maybe a shoe, but she wasn’t that cruel. “Ty,” He stopped then, and slowly woke up. “Morning.”
To say the dried droll on his chin or the mused blonde hair that is normally--yet oddly-- put together was one stick short of unattractive, was putting it mildly. Ty, normally a dead to the world sleeper on a less than stellar mattress back home was living it up on the comfortably firm military grade District 13 mattress. A sharp 'Ty' roused him out of his dream of weightlifting twice his body weight without breaking a sweat--in his dreams, he thought bitterly as the dream settled into his subconscious to be forgotten like all others before. "Morning," he mumbled back, stretching his arms and back till the synovial fluid popped in relief and his mechanical arm fluidly moved like a greased part. "..What?" Because of course she was giving him 'that look' that only she could pull off and only seemed to do with him. "What?"
Tiberius hovered outside the tattoo shop, the random buzzing grating on his ears and made his skin crawl. But Tatiana thought it would be a good idea to get one, said he'd look badass with sleeve of art. Said it might even be fun and in a moment of weakness he agreed, but upon reflection and wincing faces...he was singing a different tune. Turning to her, he absentmindedly leaned towards her with a look that said 'this is not a good idea'. "This is not a good idea, Ti."
[She was shaking. Tatiana Owel had stood in front of the entire country on camera, and fought off bear muttations; and now, she was nervous because… of him? Tenderly she unravelled a stray hair from his steel and titanium finger, though not without effort for her shaking hands, before returning the smile.] I get the impression you don’t do that too often. [He was six feet and two inches of sheer muscle and power, and she had made him speechless. The irony of District Two’s career tributes losing their gall in the face of intimacy was not lost on her. She kissed his steel palm, the metal cold on her lips, before taking it into her hand and leading him out of their hiding place. The patrol was long gone by now, and it would not do for him to notice her glowing redness in that close space. Their room was just the next corridor over, and suddenly she was nervous all over again.]
Not with someone I actually like. [He felt like an idiot, every word coming out of his mouth like some defunct robotic word vomit he couldn't turn off but her kissing his palm--yeah, that shut his mind up real quick. Her hand tugged his own metal one, it slotting nicely behind her own because even in this she was the leader, not him. Their run earlier lead them closer to their dorm and Tiberius grew even more nervous, if that was entirely possible at this point. But when he glanced over at her, her hair obscuring the majority of her face, he thought she looked calm if it wasn't for that downward quirk in her lips that betrayed it.] So. [It was an awkward starter, his hand reaching out to open their door which opened up to an ominous one room with two beds and a bathroom. But instead of standing there like an idiot, he strode in, releasing her hand.] So...--
Babe
[She’d suspected for a long while that kissing Tiberius would be weird. Her only friend for the last few months, the guy she’d seen on the edge of tears or breathless from laughter? So it only seemed fitting that it had begun awkwardly, wordless, and then sweet. Tatiana had forgotten how tall he was by the time she’d leaned up on her toes and met his kiss, brushed his lip with her tongue, and sighed. It only made sense, really. They were safe here, no mutts, no tributes, no Capitol cameras; just Tiberius and Tatiana. She pulled back, resting her forehead against his, and gave a smile.] That’s better.
...Yeah. [His mind was slow to catch up, content to simmer in the dark as their foreheads pressed together and he felt...well, he felt good. Good because he just kissed the one girl he went through hell and back again with and it felt right. As if it was just another thing they were meant to go through. Even when he pulled back slightly and lightly twisted one of her curls around his metal finger, wincing at the sound of ungreased metal.] Better. Yeah, that was-- you know.
[Completely forgetting about the patrol guard and her apathy earlier in the night, she used the lack of space as an excuse to move closer, to wrap her fingers around his shoulders. She hadn’t seen Tiberius this nervous since the Tribute Parade.] Maybe you should try that again. [Now she was just being mean.]
[He hesitated, not really sure if she was being serious or joking and he wasn't really all that sure that he meant to cross that invisible line they'd been straddling for weeks. But Tiberius relaxed beneath her fingers when he didn't notice that he tensed up so this time he tried again. This time it wasn't a jumbled mess of speed and awkward placement. It was still awkward till he grew more confident in knowing she was okay with it. Saw her lashes flicker closed on her cheek in the darkened alcove and felt those fingers tighten as his real hand settled at the base of her neck and his metal arm gripped her waist.]
[Truthfully she didn’t care either way if she was caught by the patrol again— they had already taken away her right to carry arms, and they needed medics desperately, so they couldn’t punish her further. But then Tiberius began running, and pushed her into an alcove away from the patrol guard’s flashlight. Her pulse thumped in her ear as he passed by, leaving them in the awkward space, and when Ty’s lips came by hers. And suddenly she was in fight mode again, her breath caught, followed by a cracked smile when he only managed to bump their foreheads together. Clasping her hand over her mouth before a too loud sound escaped, Tatiana laughed.] W-what’re you doing? [It wasn’t that she hadn’t kissed boys before— sure, she had. But he wasn’t a boy, he was Tiberius. And for some reason, she didn’t want him to stop, either.]
Nothin'. I don't know. Forget it.
[The whirs and mechanics filled the quiet space between them, and beyond it, she could very faintly hear his heartbeat speeding up. It brought a smile to her face when he laid his head against hers. He said he’d forgiven her, but it wasn’t until now she realised he really meant it. That they were joking again, like nothing had happened… it hadn’t felt like this in weeks. She hadn’t properly smiled since then either. The least she could do was make sure neither of them got caught out after curfew. Tatiana stood and took his hand, listening out for the patrol. Sneaking around, joking and whispering had made her feel more like herself than anything in Thirteen had before.] Come on, Tin Man.
[Off they ran, down darkened corridors with his arm almost illuminating their way like a Tin Man (which was rude); he felt like he did a year ago, happy, having fun, high on adrenaline (but in an entirely good way). Two lefts and a slight right, they moved like sneaks surprisingly light on their slippered feet. Yet a light bobbed up ahead as he realized with a start they were running straight towards a patrol far down the hallway.] No, this way. [Tiberius whispered, grabbed her arm and tugged Tatiana down a hidden alcove to wait out the patrol. It was tight, a cramped corner and limbs weirdly fitting around each other like some obscure mold that fooled the guard who swept his light across their sides quickly. And just as quickly their silent laughs slowed, eyes crinkling in the dark though he couldn't truly tell. And maybe it was that lighthearted high, a chase that made his heart race and the muscles around his mouth strain because he wasn't thinking at all. Not even when his head bent at an angle and his lips brushed hers, or they would have if he didn't bump his nose with hers and accidentally bang his forehead against hers.] Shit, I--
You’re not a burden, you’re a patient. Don’t mistake those. And a fan wouldn’t be a big deal, but you just don’t want to get in trouble here again because you’re already walking on a pretty tight rope.
I-- yeah, yeah you're right. Sorry again. I'm not really good at playing the part of the patient. [He spoke quietly, not wanting to get either of them into trouble--or him. So he turned back the way he came and headed in the direction of his room.] When are you all going to clear me to train with the others, by the way? No pressure. I just, I don't know, hate feeling, er, useless I guess.
[She grinned] Oh but you could erase them. I see how it is. Well, you can come with me anyway. We missed you in prison, by the way.
[He bumped her shoulder with a smirk on his face.] Why so you could make hand jokes and I couldn't do anything about it?
Well, you could at least give me a hand at putting them back up.
...I would but the Doc said I can't do anything strenuous.
Sorry? Sorry why? Are you erasing them? Tiberius.
Look I didn't know what it was for, Silver. Sorry.
I’ve decided to start drawing arrows on the walls so I stop getting lost.
Oh, you're the one doing that? Sorry.
