“I’m just saying, (Y/N), I completely emphasize with what you just said,”
You couldn’t help but blink up blankly at Chuuya who had his hands planted on the table, bending over your seated figure in your office. Your eyes slid from his weirdly determined blue stare to the deep russet of Dazai’s, who was seated diagonally across from you on the long table. You both shared a look, as if did you both hear correctly?
You returned your gaze back upwards to Chuuya’s, debating whether you should correct him on his usage of the term ‘emphasize’ when he most likely meant ‘empathize’. Clicking your pen several of times, you argued with yourself quietly, mulling over his reaction if you corrected his speech. Most likely, he would cuss at you and throw a fit all the while with Dazai teasing him in the corner.
No. You couldn’t do that. He had finally warmed up to you and started being more kind in his own way. You weren’t about to ruin it for both of you.
Finally, Dazai snorted, breaking the uneasy silence in the room. You shot him a quick glare as Chuuya spun around to face the bandaged suicidal maniac, “You got somethin’ to say bastard?!”.
Dazai simply waved him off, “No, no! It’s just…” the corners of his lips turned upwards into a taunting grin, “emphasize?”
A bout of realization struck Chuuya and almost immediately, his porcelain face flushed rosy red with embarrassment, “Shut the hell up, I know what I said!”
As the two continued to babble on and argue like kids, you tiredly sighed. Already you were fed up with both of their antics, wanting to get your work done. Clicking your pen a few more times, you dropped your gaze to the report that you were trying to finish up.
“Anyways!” a SLAM caused you to jump slightly as Chuuya slapped his hands back down on the table, he stared down intensely at you and you shifted uncomfortably in your seat.
“I was saying that I completely understand with DiCaprio’s truly inspiring innovation of all the different regions of art he touched on in society, especially his painting of the starry night of 1909 which seems prevalent as ever in today’s society,”
You couldn’t help but stare at him in disbelief for a brief moment, momentarily opening and shutting your mouth a couple of times as you thought of what to say. You had no idea why he was acting this strange, using all these big words which didn’t really fit his vocabulary. I mean, it was like he was speaking like a total stranger. And besides, DiCaprio painting the starry night in 1909? You felt light-headed, you didn’t even know where to start.
Finally, you said with a small voice, “Davinci,”
He blinked owlishly at you, “Huh?”
Just as you opened your mouth to repeat yourself, a peal of booming laughter cut you off and you spun in your seat to see Dazai completely losing it.
“Pfft, ha-ha, Di-Dicaprio! Ha-ha!” he giggled hard in between deep breaths, “H-he said Di-Dicaprio!!”
Chuuya looked plain mortified at that moment as he mumbled to himself, “Damn, I must’ve gotten DiCaprio and Darwin mixed up…”
Okay you were going to pretend that you didn’t hear that last bit as you patiently waited for Dazai to shut the fuck up.
After a few minutes of Dazai’s laughter, you couldn’t help but chucking your pen, letting it hit the center of his forehead.
“Will you shut up already?!” you shouted, feeling a headache coming on as you gently massage your temples. Finally, you turned to the ginger.
“Are you okay, Chuuya?” you asked, feeling annoyance bloom into worry over the mafia member, “Do you… are you sick? You look sick.”
You got up from your seat, “I can get you some medication, wait one second.”
“Wha-?” he questioned, blinking at your darting figure as you quickly exited the room.
“H-hey wait!” he rushed after you, shutting the door behind the both of you as the giggle of Dazai returned in full force.
“Dammit, (Y/N)!” he called out, grabbing your arm and spinning you around, effectively halting you in your tracks.
You blinked a couple of times up at him, silently confused to as why he was reacting so absurdly.
“Look,” he started frustratingly, rubbing his hands all over his face before sighing deeply, “I’m not sick alright? I heard you like smart guys, and I just… I don’t know I thought you would like me then.”
You couldn’t help but stare at him than before a growing smile made its way onto your visage, you beamed at him, “You have a crush on me?” you asked for assurance.
He sighed once more, “Yeah, let’s just- “you cut him off by throwing your arms around him, smiling so wide that it hurt your cheeks. “(Y/N)-?” he questioned your antics confused. You just held him tighter,
“I like you too, you dumb ass”
