Hc that whenever coco misses her mom/ village, she will sneak into ollys workshop and sit or lay on the glow stones. She tries to be sneaky but olly knows every time and sometimes she wakes up with a pillow and blanket after she accidentally fell asleep on the stones

later olly installs some of the stones in her room with her, but she still goes to ollys tower for comfort

another little moment of shirahama's expert use of brief, subtle character perspective -- in this frame we're implicitly looking at the girls from olruggio's point of view, and through his eyes they are SO tiny. just so very very small down there. he could tuck them all under his cloak protectively if necessary. the way they're all looking up at him trustingly gives you this feeling of protectiveness for their vulnerability and innocence that isn't the same as when the 'camera' is taking the girls' perspective and we're seeing things more from their level. it's an ongoing exploration of interiority that makes my brain go nuts. (and the anime is doing a pretty good job at keeping that up, what with letting us 'see' directly through both tartah's and qifrey's eyes so far, almost underlining it.) along with the attention paid to gesture and body language, I think this technique is part of what makes this comic hit so fucking hard, it's so delicately deployed you might not even notice it at times but it does so much work

These are Giselle and Valeth who are siblings from a group of like 30 orphans (Giselle was the oldest of)

Also before them tieflings are not naturally occurring this group of children just unfortunately had a run in with the most unethical scientist in this universe

~Warming up

I have many MANY thoughts about Beldaruit and the way he interacts with all the children that fall under his care. His apprentices, his grand-apprentices and even just the children around the great hall, no matter who they are or wether they're actually his responsibility or not he is always so lovely to them.

He truly values them, their individuality and their perspectives and gives them a level of respect that i feel you never see given from adults to children and it is most certainly his greatest quality.

I could not think of a better role for him than that of The Wise in Teachings, and with his adoration of magic and loving care for children, I'd go as far to call him the father of witchhood itself.

I've seen theories that olruggio's alcoholism is because of unrequited love or the memory thing but like. I saw him as a child—gay AND traumatized AND unmedicated adhd AND gifted kid syndrome AND a saviour complex AND from a frozen, mountainous hellscape?? That alcoholism was calling to him like the green goblin mask; he's actually doing a great job keeping it under wraps. Only like one bender a month? He's fine
