hahahahahaha oh you know what would be SO fucked up. there's the whole thing about the tower of tomes also being known as the tower of memories and that it contains a copy of everything ever written down, right. what if, knowing that, one iteration of olly figuring the whole thing out left a note for qifrey there by writing out a message and burning it before going to talk to him about it and getting his memory wiped. especially since the number of apprentices qifrey's taken on makes it a not unreasonable bet that he'll end up there again at some point. I don't even want it to be about anything earth shattering or containing a Big Twist or anything. just a sort of 'hey. you lead me down some strange fucking paths, man. I still love you' for qifrey to stumble over like an emotional landmine lying in wait beneath the earth

(cool fic idea: letters from olly. literally just a collection of these notes he's left over the years, in the same vein as the letter to olly qifrey seems to be writing out as the frame narrative of the the baby olufrey flashback arc chapters.

...actually frighteningly plausible situation: something like this is actually what qifrey is planning if it comes to it. would make chapter 40 EVEN MORE DEVASTATING SOMEHOW if this is a kind of idea he's been thinking about for a while as he infodumps about the way the tower functions. it's a bit genius in that it could be a schroedinger's comfort situation. if qifrey doesn't know if olly knows or not there can be no relief, and thus no bloom. with how at the end of his rope he seems to be it could be worth a shot at least -- before he can't see to write at all. or just as a precaution in case he should die without them having resolved the 'lies only a friend would tell' part of the equation, so there'll be a way for olruggio to know what the hell just happened re: the last twenty years of their lives. and that qifrey also still loved him.
