underrated mel king scene that makes me want to hurt myself and others is when a patient asks her how she deals with "all this death and carnage" and her voice breaks when she eventually admits "i dont know."

mel who has been surrounded by loss for so long. her parents are both dead, and she didn't have a single family member to turn to when it came to taking care of becca. she watches people die every day. she masks her sadness as best she can when she's around becca, but even becca is starting to spread her wings and leave, too.

i think that's why what frank says to her in season 1 resonates with me (and lots of other people) (and mel as well) SO deeply. the ED can be a tough place for people like mel but it needs sensitive people like mel. it needs her to be sensitive. everyone else in that ED is jaded in some way and needs mel to toughen up but not langdon. he needs her the way she is. needs her.

taking a stance because i think it would actually be a little bit strange if kingdon didn't take a romantic turn considering how much of their separate storylines revolve around relationships and lack thereof (mel watching her sister find love and her subsequent loneliness) (frank's relationship with his wife being damaged to the point of near-divorce)

one of my favorite things about the kingdon fandom is we don't have more applicable words for mel and frank other than WEIRD. they're so WEIRD about each other. their attachment to each other is WEIRD they're so WEIRD!!!!! i love that so very much

i find it so funny the amount of HATRED i see for kingdon when like. objectively? not only is it the most normal shit i've ever seen, it also has more substance than a lot of other ships, including some canon ones

is this controversial to say?? don't get me wrong i love a lot of other ships and ship a LOT of other ones, and i know i'm a kingdon ride or die so i'm biased, and i don't genuinely care if someone ships kingdon or not but like.

idk the amount of emotional weight that the two of them have as separate characters and as characters together, on top of just being a generally normal ship...... i do not get the amount of vitriol that is thrown at the ship or the fans of said ship. did frank langdon piss on your dog. did mel king spit in your grandma's face. like what is going on.
