More of Mohabbot needing each other in order to have a healthy sleep schedule đ´
(I literally started writing more about this concept, and then completely forgot about it in my drafts. Is it long? Yes. Am I on a writing streak because I am done with finals? Also yes! Did I write this at 2am? YES, please be easy on me)
(If you missed the first post, just know Samira and Jack find out they can only fall asleep unless they are cuddled up together, and they are tired!)
Jack really hopes he doesnât make it obvious.
Here in the Pitt, gossip spreads fast. Itâs like the second someone catches get a glimpse of something, they can stretch it out for months. And what Jack and Samira have, thatâs something to talk about.
Samira knew just as he did to keep things low and subtle. She had asked after their third ânight togetherâ, if they were going to keep doing this to please not let it flow into their work.
âYeah, sure thing.â He has said stretching from the most life changing sleep he has ever had, thinking how it easy it would be. He was such a fucking idiot. Cause it was anything but easy.
They both found out quickly that unless they were put on a shift together, or had time off, their little plan didnât really work. Since their dumb brains needed them together in order to turn off.
So, it was about to be Jackâs third night shift in a row without her, and he was starting to loose it. Then the buzz came, her name and contact photo appearing on the screen like a message from an angel (which it was), she was going to be on that night shift and she 100% âneeded a ride homeâ.
âSomeoneâs happy.â Dana snapped her gum, as she eyed him through her glasses. Shit, of course she noticed. Jack bit the inside of his cheek to keep his cool. Part of him wanted to just tell Dana, go on a full ten minute rant to explain the weird situation he found himself in. But you canât really explain how you quite literally need to be in bed with a resident in order to sleep, and he canât really explain the feelings itâs been stirring inside him either, so he just shrugs.
âJust happy to be at work.â He quipped hoping she would take the bait.
But Evans is a smart woman, and she just gives him a very suspicious âsure.â before officially signing off and ending her day.
As Jack waves at the charge nurse leaving, thatâs where he got a glimpse of her. Walking in with her headphones, hair in a ponytail that had her curls falling, and deep tired eyes. Of course, she still looked good, definitely better than Jack did, she could do that in any condition. But it was clear she was tired; the brightness in large eyes, the one that could make any patients day better, had dimmed . And Jack hated that. If only he could make time go faster, just so she could sleep. Fuck it, he didnât even care if she slept and he didnât, he would still try to make the hours past by. But they had a shift to start, and they had to keep it low.
The shift goes normal, screams here, blood there. Jokes from Parker. Eye rolls from Walsh. Laughter from Mateo. Not an easy day, but far from the worst. Jack works, and it seems his body uses all its energy for the emergency room, because he feels fine. Samira is also working like nothing is wrong, in fact sheâs doing it all with a smile. He knows itâs gonna hit the second they clock out, it always does.
He tries to make his exit as fast as he can. As the morning crew starts rolling in, Jack feels entire body beginning to change, desperate to leave. Itâs doing that weird thing where autopilot leaves, and his eyelids begin to get heavy. His mind starts to think of Samira, if heâs feeling this way, sheâs probably just as bad.
Shit, I gotta find her, and take her out of here.
He finds and talks with Robby, gets him up to date. Sprinkles a few jokes as to not bring awareness to the way he is practically searching for Samira.
âYou got things from here?â Jack says, as the two of them walk through the halls, passing by the night nurses who are scrambling to finish their day.
âShould be.â Robby says, crossing his arms in his typical fashion. âYou heading home?â
Jack clears his throat as he catches Samira chatting it up with Trinity by the lockers. Her eyes find him, and for a moment there is almost a brief conversation. He had already texted her where he parked. A couple blocks down, pretty far from where most people are heading, but not a stretch. Just enough that no one will notice, and no one will question.
Be there in one minute, he thinks, and for a second, itâs stupid. To think she can read his mind in this single look heâs giving her across the room.
But, Samira Mohan is an incredible woman, and she gives him the slightest nod and smile. Not even missing a beat with Trinity as she returns to their conversation, and Jack tries not grin as he turns back to Robby.
âYeah, brother.â Jack gives his friend a small tap on the shoulder. âIâm done for the day.â
âGood.â Robby gives a small nod. âCause I donât mean to be a dick man, but you look exhausted.â
Jack bites back a laugh. âTrust me. Iâm good.â
The truck is already unlocked,Jack had slipped Samira the keys in passing. He hops into the driverâs seat and lets out the loudest sigh. Sheâs already in the passenger seat, looking absolutely drained.
Sheâs is barely holding it together when she turns to him. âWe donât have to stop at my place today. I brought everything.â She kicks a backpack thatâs by her feet.
âPerfect.â Jack says, putting the keys into the ignition and starting the car. As the hum of the engine begins, Samira sits up straight.
âShit. Wait.â Samiraâs fingers finds her forehead. âI never asked before, you must be so tired too. Are you okay to drive?â
âIâm wide awake until youâre safe.â Jack says without thinking. âI could stay up for three more days, if you needed me to.â
Jack begins to pull out, and yes he is now wide awake because of how stupid that last sentence sounded. He makes a small glance to Samira, who seems to be both taken aback and relieved.
âOhâokay.â Samira gets out.
The rest of the car ride is silent, they listen to music that she has cued up, and itâs calm. Almost helping Jack forget what he had just said. He looks toward her as Samira stares out the window. He had realized early on how much she liked this part. Samira needed the silence. It was like every mile they passed was another step in shedding the burden that was keeping her awake. He realized he needed it too, the peace and quiet. Sometimes it led to him thinking about the shift, or other things that seemed to plague his mind, sometimes he didnât think about anything at all.
He liked what the silence offered. It meant communicating in other ways. He always took the route where they passed by a local park, one with a nice garden Samira had commented on one time, said she liked the flowers. He would slow down, just so she could look at them longer. And she always cued up a song he liked when they were close to home, making sure it lined up perfectly to when he parked the car.
The walk to his apartment is as silent as the car ride. Itâs like they are machines, moving as if they are back in the Pitt. They both enter, both put away their shoes and coats. They make their way to the bedroom, where Samira takes her backpack and immediately is moving toward the bathroom. As Jack hears the water of the shower go, he begins the routine, setting up the humidifier, making sure their alarms are set, and closing the blinds.
âI left some hot water for you.â Jack hears as he takes out his pajama pants from his closet.
âThanks for thinking of me.â Jack turns. He is met with wet haired Samira, a towel being used to dry her hair, sheâs wearing pajama shorts that are so small that they barely peak out from underneath her oversized t-shirt.
She looks at him, smiling softly, with tired eyes, and damp hair.
She has no idea how beautiful she is.
Jack blinks. âIâll be quick.â He mutters past her. Trying not to stare, but at that point heâs too tired to care.
He is quick. So quick, that by the time heâs done, sheâs still doing her skincare routine for the night. Samira did her part, turning off the lights, setting up the fan. Heâs not wearing a shirt, when he leaves the bathroom, only in his pj pants. They realized by the second time they did this, how hot it gets when you are bear-hugging the person next to you. Heâs glad she doesnât seem to mind his lack of clothes.
âCome here.â Samira smiles as she makes her way toward him. She has some moisturizer cream on her hands, that she quickly puts on his face. This is a new part to their routine, and Jack is not dumb enough to interrupt it.
âYou think I need this?â Jack closes his eyes, as she begins to do her work.
âMaybe a little.â He hears her laugh.
Just the sound of her voice makes him smile. âWhat? Do I look tired?â
When they are entering in bed, itâs silent again. At this point they know everything they need to know, all the tension that the other nights had completely gone. Jack lays down first, opening his arms so Samira can fit herself on his chest. She immediately falls into him, resting her head under his chin. He moves the blanket around them, so it captures the both of them.
âNight, Jack.â Samira says softly, her hand going to his upper body. She adjusts herself, head on him as she hooks one leg around his, and Jack feels entire body relax.
âGoodnight, Samira.â Jackâs arm wraps around her waist, pulling her close to his side as he hears her breathing get heavier.
It takes less than five minutes before both of them are completely knocked out.
