Almost when you got home and left your suitcases in the corner of your room, Conrad started calling you.
"Hey." You responded with a smile, pressing the phone to your ear.
"Hi," he paused and although you couldn't see him, you knew he was smiling too. "I miss you."
"But we just saw each other a couple of hours ago." The two of you let out a nasal laugh and your hand that wasn't busy with your phone took care of taking off your shoes and you lay down on your bed.
"I know, but it still feels like forever."
The two of you were quiet for a second, you took in the silence, appreciating the fact that, somehow, you were with him.
"So," he was the first to break the silence. "When do you think we can see each other?"
"I don't know, in a couple of weeks maybe?" You hesitated wondering where you could go or what could you do.
"It's perfect for me." and after saying that, you both spent at least more than two hours talking until you both had to sleep.
"Good night, Connie." You murmured while lying on the bed and he, on the other side of the line, smiled completely in love, looking towards the window of his room, imagining that they would be the same stars that you would see.
"G'night, pretty girl."
The days continued to pass and every three days you spoke to Conrad on the phone but every day you texted. And on the day he was supposed to call you he didn't, which worried you a little.
Just as you were about to press the button to call him, you heard the house ring.
Your parents would be back the next day and you weren't expecting anyone else to come visit you.
You frowned and stood up to look through the small window in the door and saw that it was Conrad.
You opened the door, still wrapped in the sweatshirt that hardly smelled like him anymore because of how many times you had washed it.
Your heart raced the instant your gaze collided with his.
"Hey." He greeted with a small smile and as if that had brought you out of your thoughts, you ran towards him to hug him tightly.
He wrapped his arms around you just as tightly as you and spun you around, making you both laugh.
When your feet touched the ground again, you managed to see a sparkle in his eyes that he only had when he looked at you and only you.
"I guess you didn't call because of this." You smiled and he nodded in response, his hand sought yours and intertwined your fingers after caressing the knuckles of your hand.
"Yes it's true."
"Well, let's go inside." With your hand that was intertwined with his, you guided him into the house.
"Your parents aren't here?" He asked after scanning the entire place with his eyes in search of anyone else.
"Nope." You denied, sitting on the couch, he imitated the action, sitting next to you and admiring your face.
You tried to avoid his attentive gaze that was starting to make you blush. "Do you want coffee or hot chocolate? "It's freezing outside."
"Chocolate is good." He nodded and you got up from the couch towards the kitchen.
A couple of minutes later you returned from the kitchen to the living room and offered him his cup.
"I was about to watch a movie, do you want to watch it?"
He nodded again and you reached for the remote control to select the movie, Pride and Prejudice was the one chosen and you moved even closer to Conrad, feeling the heat emanating from his body. He turned his face to place a soft kiss on your temple, making you smile.
When the movie was halfway through, you were lying on the couch with your head on Conrad's lap.
“You know,” he started to speak, breaking the comfortable silence between the two of you, you looked up so you could pay attention to him. "Sometimes when I look into your eyes, I pretend you're mine all the damn time."
You smiled tenderly looking at him and raised your hand to caress his cheek.
"I'm already yours."
The next time you saw each other was until the following summer, Conrad had been busy with university matters and you with family and school matters.
When you arrived with the Conklins, the emotion was evident in you, you were excited.
Your gaze searched for the eldest of the Fisher siblings but you could only find Jeremiah and Susannah.
"Where's Connie?" you asked once you greeted Jeremiah.
His smile infected yours and he pointed towards the interior of the house.
"In his room, do you want me to go get him?"
"Oh no, I can go," you nodded and looked at Belly. "Do you want to come with me?" When she was about to answer you Susannah interrupted her.
"She and I are going shopping together with Laurel," Susannah winked at you and then you knew that Conrad had most likely already told her about you two. "Come on, Jere, could you please put the remaining suitcase in?"
"Yes of course." he nodded and the other three women left, leaving you with the two of them in the house. "I saw what my mom did." Jeremiah said after closing the trunk of Laurel's car and looked at you. You were sure the color had left your face.
"I—"
"Don't worry, I was already suspicious of you and Conrad since last summer, I understand." He put his arm over your shoulders, guiding you into the house.
"I figured." You smiled sideways in denial looking at him and looked forward when you heard someone else clear their throat.
"Hey."
"Hi." You greeted with a smile and Jeremiah removed his arm from around your shoulders.
"I'm going to leave you alone." The blonde continued on his way, giving his brother's shoulder a gentle tap.
"I missed you." You admitted a little shyly and his smile widened, looking at you adoringly.
"Come here," He motioned for you to come closer and so you did, wrapping what you could of his body with your hands and arms. He lifted your chin with his index finger and leaned his face to kiss you softly. "I missed you too."
You smiled and hid your face in his chest out of shyness while his fingers got lost in your hair.
Later that day everyone was eating, you and Conrad giving each other glances that could easily be deduced were not just friends, but then Belly spoke, breaking you out of your little bubble.
"How about we go to the beach?" After everyone agreed, everyone finished eating and about an hour later y'all prepared to spend some time on the beach.
Y'all had fun, Jeremiah ended up covered in sand after Steven pushed him after he went into the sea and you had a nice sunbath.
When you decided you had had enough, you returned to the house where Conrad later returned as well.
"Have I told you how pretty you look right now?" He asked hugging you from behind, kissing behind your ear and moving towards your cheek and soon towards your jaw. The two were in the kitchen, where you could easily be caught if anyone other than Jeremiah or Susannah walked in.
But you didn't pay attention to it.
You giggled, shaking your head and turning in his arms to look him in the eyes.
"No, but you look pretty handsome right now." You both had wide smiles painted on your faces, so he, after brushing his nose with yours affectionately, brought his lips together with yours, fitting together perfectly as if they were meant to be joined. Almost like you two.
"Conrad, did you see—" It was Belly's voice that made you immediately separate enough, leaving your waist pressed against the kitchen counter. "What the fuck is going on?"
"Belly..."
"No, don't think about defending yourself, I know what I saw, how could you? Knowing what I've felt all my life for him." Belly's face reflected indignation and betrayal in all its glory, you tried to take her hand to explain everything, but she avoided it, denying it with tears appearing at the edges of her eyes.
"Belly, please," you took a couple of steps closer to her and Conrad remained silent at all times but attentive to anything. "I didn't plan this, okay? But I don't regret anything, I'm sorry, but I... I love him." and then you felt the burning on your cheek sting intensely. Belly had slapped you to the point that your face had turned away. You could see how Conrad grabbed the hand she had slapped you with by the wrist.
"Don't you dare touch her again." He threatened and at that point the fear of losing Belly took hold of you, making you shed a couple of tears.
She denied, clenching her jaw, looking at the boy she had loved up to that point in her life.
"Why her? Why not me?" she sobbed, making no effort to remove her arm from Conrad's grasp.
"You knew about my feelings towards you, Belly, and they are not the same as you have towards me." He reminded her, releasing her hand.
"Yes but—"
"No buts, I'm sorry too, I didn't... mean to hurt you or for you to find out this way." He glanced at you out of the corner of his eye and looked back at Belly. You swallowed without taking your eyes off the girl. "But you already know, so there is no reason why we should continue hiding." He sighed and then his gaze traveled to yours that threatened to burst into tears. "But I love her, I love her more than I've ever loved anyone," he looked away from you, leaving you and Belly stunned. "So for your sake, please find someone who loves you, I don't want you to continue hurting yourself because of what you feel for me... I'm not worth it."
She simply left the room without saying anything, but she gave you one last look that told you everything without saying anything, she wouldn't forgive you, at least not soon.
Conrad returned in front of you without saying anything, he just looked at you. Your gaze, on the other hand, was lost in where Belly had gone.
“y/n?”
"I need some time to take it all in, can we put this conversation on hold? I'm not mad at you nor did you do anything wrong." You approached him and caressed his cheek, he leaned into your touch making you smile. You stood on tiptoe to kiss his lips briefly. "I just need time."
He understood you, he understood how you felt, so he simply nodded and gave you a small smile. "Alright."
"Okay." You removed your hand from his cheek and went to your room to change your clothes and lie down in your bed until it became night.
Jeremiah had come up to check on you and from what he said, Belly hadn't left her room in all that time either.
He, sitting on the edge of your bed, and you lying with your gaze lost in the window, talked to you.
"Did she find out?" He asked quietly and you just nodded, humming in understanding and caressing your ankle affectionately.
"Conrad confessed for the first time that he loves me." you murmured.
"Oh really?"
You nodded again.
"And what did you say to him?" You shrugged at his question.
"I couldn't answer him the way I wanted, I was more worried about what would happen with Belly." You sighed, burying your face further into your pillow.
"I know you'll be able to handle it well, plus you know I'll be here whenever you need me." His words made you smile, it was reassuring to know that you still had someone on your side.
"Thank you, Jere."
"It's no big deal." He murmured, standing up and leaving the room after giving your shoulder an affectionate squeeze.
A couple of minutes later you heard the door open once again, but your back was turned so you couldn't see who it was, but you deduced it was Jeremiah.
"What did you forget, Jere?" you scoffed still clinging to your pillow.
"I didn't forget anything and I'm definitely not Jere." You identified Conrad's voice and laid on your back to see him properly.
"Hi." You greeted shyly and he approached your bed after closing the door.
"Don't act all shy around me." He laughed, motioning for you to move so he could lie down, when you did he laid down next to you.
"Sorry."
"You do not have to." He denied, turning his head to look at you.
There were a few seconds where you both remained silent, looking at each other.
"About this afternoon," you started, breaking the silence. "You said something."
"I said something." He nodded, looking at you carefully. His attentive gaze made you more nervous.
You settled yourself better, lying on your side and moving closer to Conrad. Your hand rested on his cheek, caressing him lovingly and you pressed your lips to his.
Somehow, whenever you both kissed, it seemed like the whole world disappeared, there were no worries, no one and nothing that could bother you.
His hand moved from your waist to your back to press you completely against him.
Then when you started to run out of air, you pulled your face away from him. He looked at you as he brushed a strand of your hair behind your ear.
You bit your lip out of nervousness and your hand rested on his.
"I...I love you too." He was about to speak but before he could, you did. "I regret the way I ran away in the afternoon."
"I know, and I understand, you were overwhelmed." He caressed your cheek once again as he looked into your eyes. "and, I know it's delicate but I want to be with you, like a couple, I want you to call me yours and I want to call you mine." you looked at him curiously, feeling your heart race in anticipation of the words you thought would leave his lips. "I know it's not the most romantic way to ask but I can't stand another day without you anymore, so... would you let me be your boyfriend?"
You smiled widely, nodding repeatedly as you placed several short kisses on his lips.
"Yes, yes, yes, I do want to be your girlfriend, Connie."
He smiled too, kissing your lips again happily.
You both knew that the situation was delicate, but you were both sure of something: you would risk everything to be with each other.
Was the boy there? What's his name? Don't pretend otherwise. He renamed the Crow Club the Kaelish Prince and Pekka would never see himself as anything other than a king. So, what is the boy's name?
“Are there any parts of Kaz’s journey you personally connected with?” “The value that he puts on loyalty is something that has struck a chord with me. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found there are friends who you really want to keep close and stay loyal to. Kaz has built this little family around him. Once he’s got his people, he holds on to them no matter how much they annoy him or he annoys them. I also think, at some point, all of us have been unable to express how we feel to someone else. I’ve been that awkward teenager who wasn’t able to speak his mind or really articulate how he was feeling. Kaz is that a hundred times over. It’s for a myriad of reasons, but I think that is quite universal.” -Freddy Carter.
