We love roller derby and we want to be able to invite more people to come and skate with us but don't have the resources at the moment. Winning £1000 in the Mars Milk Fund could change that, but we need your votes to boost our chances!
Please click the link and vote. It's super easy and won't take long at all. And if you have more than one email address then you can use them all to vote as many times as possible.
Thanks so much in advance, TBB.
Ooooooooooops. Sorry we neglected you Tumblr. We'll do better.
If you want to see what the Brawlers' A team is up to on their US tour then check out our Storify link. We'll be updating with photos, tweets and all sorts as we receive it! Enjoy.
You know the concept; you’ve seen the awesomeness; some of you may even have got the t-shirt. Now take part on home turf!
On Saturday 26 July the Tiger Bay Brawlers will host the first Welsh Sur5al in Penarth, based on the awesome Sur5al format created by our friends at Windsor Rollergirls.
There’s an abundance of wicked teams in Wales so let’s celebrate that and get together for one awesome day of fast-paced, hard-hitting, all-female roller derby.
This will be a mixed level event and is open to all minimum skills passed female roller derby teams/skaters in Wales. Application forms are coming soon, and you’ll need to be ready to complete this with your team of 5 skaters, so you may want to get that organised now!
There is no limit to how many skaters each league can put forward to participate but there will only be 10 teams taking part on the day, allocated on a first come first served basis.
The cost will be £35 per person (including your Sur5al tshirt printed with your skater number and the Sur5al logo)
Please note, there will be no capacity for spectators at this event but we will endeavour to get some social media updates setup so your supporters can cheer you on remotely!
What are you waiting for? Save the date now and start putting together your kick-ass team for your chance to Sur5!
Keep an eye on the Facebook page for full details: https://www.facebook.com/events/706868536041392
Design a poster for your favourite team and help support Tiger Bay Brawlers!
Stuck for ideas on what to do before our double header on the 26th?
Why not head down to Talybont and join us for a crafty hour or so, and design a poster for your favourite team or player?
From 2pm at the Talybont Social (after party venue) some of our more creative Brawlers will be on hand with supplies to help you to create posters and banners so you can show your love during the games themselves! You could also bring your own bits and bobs for extra customisation come to hangout if you want to?
This is open to all ages and creative abilities, and costs £1 each. Proceeds will go towards our ECDX fundraising goal.
In June we're heading out to our first US tournament, the East Coast Derby Extravaganza (ECDX).
To help us raise funds to get to the tournament Kid Block and Dos Santos (two of our most competitive skaters, both on and off track) are doing a series of challenges when we reach funding milestones.
Today we hit £2,500! May we present the Chubby Bunny Challenge :)
If you want to see more challenge (and help us get to ECDX!) head on over to our GoFundMe page.
Of course you can donate any amount you can afford be that £1 or £1000 - every penny helps - but we've set up some incentives for some amounts as outlined below:
£25: T-shirt with limited edition Brawler design
£50: Merch bundle: tshirt, sticker, badge set and access to a private Instagram account (where we'll share exclusive content about our preparation, training and tournament experience)
£100: Merch bundle: tshirt, hoodie (same design), sticker, badge set + access to a private Instagram account
Biggest single donation (over £100): all of the above + choose skate out song for next bout* + home game tickets to next bout*
‘Don’t be upset with the results you didn’t get from the work you didn’t do’ - Said the internet once. I love a good motivationally quote, and this is one of my favourites. Roller Derby has grown and developed dramatically during the short time that I have been skating. Back in 2011 when I joined...

We need to raise £15,000 in 15 weeks to get our A team to the USA for this year's East Coast Derby Extravaganza.
We're one of only seven non-US teams representing and the only UK team on the line up, something we're super proud of.
We can't wait to take part in our first US tournament but we really need as much support as we can to get there. Please check out our Go Fund Me page and see if you can help - we're also offering some pretty nifty merchandise as an incentive.
As ever, 2014 has been crazy busy already for us Brawlers - and it's only February! Here's a round up of all the things you need to know:
Next home bout: Saturday 22 February
First up the Tiger Bay B team will take on Leicester’s Dolly Rockit Rollers All Stars. On paper our teams are fairly evenly matched, being placed 46th and 48th respectively. This will be the first time the two teams have met on track and our B team are keen to continue the promise they showed at the end of last year with consecutive victories against Leeds Roller Dolls’ Whip Its and Helsinki’s Queen B’s.
The second game of the day sees the Tiger Bay A team up against Birmingham’s Central City Rollergirls. This will be the first time these two teams have met on track with Tiger Bay only ever having played – and beaten – CCR’s B team before. CCR’s last game (against Sheffield in November) saw them bag a big win, with a 160 point advantage, while our A team finished 2013 losing back to back games to Helsinki’s A team and London Rollergirls’ Brawl Saints. Following our recent defeat to London Brawling we are hungry to reclaim our winning ways!

Introducing the Tiger Bay Brawlers A team captains for 2014, quarter 1...
Billie Pistol #44
Boba Fettish #32
Thanks to Scott Cole Photography for the headshots!
Steph joined the Brawlers in our second full recruitment day in 2012 and is a familiar face on our awesome B team where she's a budding jammer as well as a fantastic strategist and blocker. Steph is also a regular name on our A team charter and played her first A team game last weekend vs. Royal Windsor Rollergirls. Not bad to get a win in your first game, eh? Exciting!
When Steph's not contributing to league awesomeness on skate, she is a member of the Brawlers' Upper Management Committee (the Directors) making sure everything ticks over nicely day to day.
But that's enough of us gushing about Steph. Here she is in her own words:
Derby name and number: Steph Howarth #19
Preferred position: Blocker (although I do enjoy an occassional go with the star)
Likes: Stats, cats, breakfast, home storage solutions
Dislikes: 3D pie charts, dilly-dallying, feet
Worst habits: Believing that I'm right all the time
Theme song: Kenickie - Classy
Derby dream/goal: To keep learning and improving and working my way up to skating on the A team. Oh, and finally convincing everyone I know that roller derby involves neither a ball nor a stick.
Favourite player: I'm always totally in awe of Stefanie Mainey (gotta give some love to a fellow Stef/ph!). I've got a soft spot for Sandrine Rangeon too. Her mega jam from the 2012 WFTDA champs sticks in my mind. I remember being completely blown away by her.
Best derby moment/memory: Even though I've not been playing roller derby very long, I'm struggling to just pick one. Every time I learn a new skill, every time I get picked for a team, every time I land a good hit, every time I break through the pack - these are all amazing memories. But I think my favourite is the first time I put on a pair of skates at the Brawlers recruitment day in 2012 and thought to myself "hey, you know what, I reckon this could be pretty awesome". I've never looked back.

This is an awesome 3-minute recap of our A team vs. Leeds Rebel Roses last week done by the very wonderful Brock n'Roller! Check it out :)
You can see us in action vs. Royal Windsor Roller Girls next month but our next home bouts are on the 7th and 8th December. Save the dates!
On Saturday I combined my love of roller derby with my love of a good road trip by jumping on the Brawler bus to Leeds to take photos at a roller derby double header. Tiger Bs took on the Whip-Its before the Brawlers faced the Rebel Roses.
Bout bouts were brilliant, Cardiff came away with with a double win, and I survived the entire day on a diet of peanuts and sweets - result!

DERBY WEEKENDER: Brawlers vs Helsinki + another awesome rematch!!
SAVE THE MOTHER FLIPPING DATE KIDS
Saturday 7 December and Sunday 8 December
TIGERS VS TURTLES!
Yes, that's right. On Saturday 7 December we get the rematch we've been counting down to since Skate Odyssey in May. The Brawlers A team will once again take on Helsinki, who we only beat by three points last time to get through to the final of the tournament! Some of our eagle eyed fans will have spotted bits of that game on Roller Derby Till I Die last week and anyone who was there can tell you just how much of a nail-biter it was! That bout will be a double header with our B team also taking on an opponent in their second public home bout this year.
AND THAT'S NOT ALL....
On Sunday 8 December our A team will be playing another home bout in the brand spanking new Cardiff Roller Arena. Yep, back to back Brawler bouts! We're currently finalising the details but it's set to be an absolute corker. We can't say much yet but it's another rematch from this year and we guarantee it's going to be absolutely fantastic, for both the skaters and our fans! Our opponents are absolute giants on the European derby scene and we can't wait to meet them again (especially as we won last time)
Who do you think it is? Any guesses?
All the information is coming soon, including ticket information and ticket packages so you can come to all games for a bargain price!
Here the details you need for now…
When? Saturday 7 December: Tiger Bay Brawlers vs. Helsinki double header
Where? Talybont Sports Centre, Cardiff.
And then? Tiger Bay Brawlers vs. another European roller derby giant on Sunday 8 December in Cardiff Roller Arena!
Go on tell me more... No no, all details coming soon, but just make sure you're in Cardiff on the 7th and 8th December!
Grab a permanent marker and pop it into your diary and calendar so you don’t forget!!
Three super exciting facts about this weekend's game...
1. The score prediction!
Last time we met Crime City on track we beat them by 244-212 BUT just a couple of jams before the end of the game CCR had 20 points taken off them due to an illegal star pass so imagine how close that would have been!? The score prediction for this weekend is 200-158, so one power jam could make all the difference. Excited? You should be. We are!
2. Our announcer to the rescue
One of our regular announcers is unable to make it but we have the perfect replacement! We're stoked to say that Double Threat Skates' Goregasm will be joining our very own Trauma Broad on the microphone to let y'all know exactly what's going on. If you've ever spent any time in Gaz's company you know this'll be a hoot!
3. We'll be streaming the Fort Wayne Playoffs at the after party!
Do we need to expand on this? As long as technology plays ball we'll be able to watch the awesome Fort Wayne bouts after the awesome Cardiff bout. So we can all back London Rollergirls together! (Anyone else just get an epic photo idea?)
What are you waiting for? Snap up your ticket now - only £8 in advance (a saving of £2 off the on-the-door price) https://www.facebook.com/events/1398252320392715/
