Pride Week in Copenhagen is this week (mid-August) for some reason - and my lovely, beautiful Pridosaurs pins arrived TODAY!
Coincidence?? Yes, definitely. But I’m still pretty pleased about it :)

I stumble across some great stuff in relation to my work sometimes
Like this fantastic paper on acronyms in science.
Fairly silly. Has some good points. And the best part is that it apparently isn’t the first of its kind.
My favorite acronym at the moment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s new programme called New Exploratory Research and Discovery.
NERD.
It’s called nerd.
I love it.
The Flemish Study on Environment, Genes, and Health Outcomes (a longitudinal cohort study) is called... FLEMENGHO.
Say that out loud, I dare you.

I submitted my thesis!
The last read-through was a rollercoaster ride of thoughts and emotions including but not limited to;
- Fuck this shit.
- This is so boring. I wrote this, and have read through it SO MANY TIMES already.
- I’m so clever.
- Did I write that too? I completely forgot, but this is very cool. Well done me.
- I just want to be done now.
- HOW AM I STILL ABLE TO FIND TYPOS??
The fun part is finding typos once is submitted and printed…
Yes, I did that too, OF COURSE. Actually, it was a silly spelling error because I wrote acknowledgements last minute...
Stardew Valley/Graveyard Keeper
I had such high hopes for Graveyard Keeper - Stardew Valley, but you tend a graveyard? Yes please!
But I was a bit disappointed and started my first solo game of Stardew Valley instead - I’d only played co-op (and back seat).
And named my farm Graveyard to keep with the theme I was missing :D Also:
- The cat was about to be named Salem, until I remembered that Lucifer is known as a cat’s name in a children’s christmas song.
- I’m waiting impatiently to get void chickens.
- Gotta have bats in my cave.
- All the scare crows.
- Going to name my goat Baahphomet.
- And the sheep Mææhfisto (that’s not the English onomatopoeia).
- Gonna decorate my house with skeletal remains.
But what am I missing in my plans? What is a good name for a cow? A duck?
Also I died and lost my sword in the mines because I suck and had no-one to defend me like in the co-op games, so I’m a tiny bit ‘ucked :/
“Your top strength is judgment”
Ok, good, that doesn’t make me sound like kind of an asshole. At all.
(I took an online character/strenghts test because someone recommended it).
Reading the elaboration of the results it sounds true enough - “Your top strength is Judgment which means you weigh information thoroughly. You consider all possibilities and examine things from all sides.”
Still, though. I’m not judgey, you’re judgey!
(That’s not entirely true).
But you don’t know how hard it is to be a good cultural relativist AND a bit of a misanthropist at the same time! I’m on another level of cognitive dissonance over here.
I need to stop watching speed runs
When I came down to my bike this morning I noticed there was no other bike parked on its left, making it easier for me to get to my bike.
And my tired brain thought “Oh, that’s good RNG”.
So now I’m apparently the kind of person who thinks that ‘luck’ is just the RNG of the universe, I gues.
Job hunting
This posting says they’re looking for someone with a degree in medicine, psychology, or public health. But I’m a medical anthropologist, so I don’t care.
STS
“Public Understanding of Science (PUS) or Public Engagement with Science and Technology (PEST)”
Who made these acronyms?? This is horrible.

Thesis Writing
I sometimes read an article and think “my thesis will never be this well written or have an argument as elegant as this” and that makes me sad.
Then I remember that practice supposedly makes perfect, and that I’m not a professor like the person who wrote said article.
... But somehow I’m still a bit sad.
Thesis Writing
“As mentioned earlier...”
Yeah, let’s fucking hope you did. Or that you catch that mistake before the deadline.
Stuff my supervisor says
Him: “...And I really like what you did here, that is spot on!”
Me internally: “That… I think that was your idea. But sure, I’ll take credit.”
Somehow, I’m the Zotero expert in my thesis office
And that’s a bit funny? It’s not that hard people. And yes, you should have started using it years ago.
Cake, icing, and chocolate
This chapter I’m writing is very much about cake and sweets. Literally and metaphorically.
“It has cost us quite a few road trips and cake [to establish this relationship].”
I love it.
Best feelings on fieldwork
- When you ask a senior researcher-manager a question about his work that he hadn’t thought about and he has to stop and think about it for a second.
- When you’ve been thinking about bringing something up in conversation because it interests you analytically, and people mention it themselves naturally.
Imagine getting a brian freeze, but the cause is external. “What is this??”, you think, only to remember that you live in a climate humans were never meant to inhabit.
You wish that you could grow fur all over your head and face. That would be nice.
We just weren’t made for this kind of shit.
