âIâm not particularly nice, you havenât caught on to that yet?â
âI prefer to think the best in people. Maybe youâre secretly a helplessly romantic heartthrob who was hurt badly and thatâs why youâre such a knob.â

âIâm not particularly nice, you havenât caught on to that yet?â
âI prefer to think the best in people. Maybe youâre secretly a helplessly romantic heartthrob who was hurt badly and thatâs why youâre such a knob.â
âAw, but half the fun is that you donât know what is it. Whatâs wrong Toots? Yaâ donât like surprises?â
âThereâs a reason I cried at my surprise 13th birthday party. Iâm surprised you donât remember, considering half the school likes to remind me of it on a daily basis.â
â you are absolutely MENTAL ! âÂ
â wouldnât it be MUCH easier to just destroy your beloved with FIRE instead of causing mass panic by BREAKING IN ? Â â
âiâm not mental, just passionate about floraâ
â easier, but less emotionally harrowing and ultimately terrifying. destroying something someone loves isnât enough. you combine that love with panic, with paranoia, you get something really special. you get fear.â
âOh, yeah, you donât wanna go over THERE â thereâs like three couples making out in that corner.â
âThree? Isnât romance sacred anymore?â
âCan we just get this security threat over with. I prefer not to be stuck in here any longer. Too many Gryffindors in the one place.â Regulus muttered to himself as he sat in one of the corners of the great hall.
âHow on earth do you cope at mealtimes?â Tilden piped up from his spot nearby, curious as to how someone who apparently hated Gryffindors dealt with daily life. âOr lessons that Slytherin and Gryffindor share?â
at least the utter ridiculousness of tilden toots makes him feel a bit better, and it even makes him smile a smidgen. âyou love more than all that about you, mate?â he nods at the succulents piled about toots, biting the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing at the nonsensical sight before him. âgot more room in your heart than i do.âÂ
âi love plenty of things and plenty of people, alas, few of them are here.â tilden anxiously shuffled around the pots in front of him, arranging them into neat rows away from peopleâs footfall. âmy heart has room for a jungle, potter. does this look like a jungle to you? itâs barely a herb garden. practically a rockeryâ
thereâs nothing worse for james potter than inactivity. because now heâs got to sit still, and heâs got to think about whatâs going on outside the great hall, and heâs got to imagine whatâs happened to that missing kid and wonder how they managed to slip out from under his head-boy notice. âi reckon theyâre alright. probably just got a bit lost in the fuss of getting down here. probably some first year whoâs barely learned their way around on a normal day, yeah?âÂ
âor they were kidnapped. or maybe they went back to save something they love,  as i would have if i wasnât being unfairly held here against my will.â tilden scowled, glaring at james from his spot surrounded by succulents. he hadnât saved enough of them. what if someone was destroying the greenhouses right now? âeither way iâd still rather be them than meâ
âWell, we name our own after Greek myths. Alecto, the fury, or Clytemnestra, the vengeful queen.â Alecto mimicked his tone, knowing even as she did that it was petty of her.
âThe fury. Tad more intimidating than fertile valley, I have to say. I donât think calling a cute little kitty cat like herâ Tilden paused to lean down and tickle Clytemnestra between the ears âa vengeful queen, is very accurate.â
âArenât you kind â or, incredibly stupid.â
"Iâve heard both. I prefer to think of myself as kind.â
â your WHAT ? âÂ
â no, you listen, your little plants are fine ! who in their right mind would break in just to destroy PLANTS ? hmm ? â
âi would! if i had an enemy who i knew cared about their plants as much as i do, iâd bloody well break in to destroy them!â
âmaybe thatâs their plan. maybe iâve done something to piss someone important off and theyâre going to ruin me, plant by plant.â
 ccrrows:
Alecto shrugged and cradled the cat before putting her down. Cly curled around her legs, back arched. âClytemnestra was intersting at least, better than some boring old star. Besides, stars are the Black tradition.â
âBlacks name their children after actual stars. We Toots name ours after earth and sky. Yvaine, evening star. Tilden, fertile valley. See the difference?â Tilden folded his arms over his chest, smiling slightly at Alecto. âThe manure cycle of a Glumbumble is interesting. Doesnât mean Iâm going to rename my owl Dung.â
â i see you â â emerald eyes wide & curious.Â
â donât you think you should stop trying to sneak off ? the GREAT HALL is the other way & while i am in support of rebellious actions, i will not be to blame for your unfortunate undoing by the mysterious mass murderer all because you would not listen to orders. â
âlisten here, vanity. my babies are out there completely unprotected from i donât know what, and if you want to stop me from going and saving their poor innocent little lives, youâre going to have to stun me!â
âSee. nowâŠâ
âI would apologize on Mariaâs behalf for trying to eat your pet, butâŠâ Aleksander trailed off as he looked down at the cat in his lap. âIt would be a lie. Sheâs not sorry at all.â
Tilden scowled at Aleksander, hands fussing over the plant pots that had been knocked over during the fight between the cat and his owl. âRembrandt can take care of herself. Youâre lucky she didnât claw Mariaâs eyes out. Itâs my plants Iâm cross about.â
âWhat kind of bullshit is this?â Cooped up all day, and now theyâre all being shoved into the great hall right before curfew? A night in a room full of people, packed in tight? âHow are we supposed to get anything done in this noise?â
âDonât know, G.â Tilden had found the most secluded corner in the room, hunched between a bundle of sleeping bags and a fireplace. âDonât really like it either.â
â okay , i have tea !! i have tea and i have blankets and i have coffee !! i have pillows and i have books in case anyone wants to read . also gobstones , and exploding snap cards . i also have a list of the things i have and the information thatâs been gathered . â lily stops short , whipping about to look at the person sheâd been talking to ( or at. )  â what am i missing ? am i missing anything ? â
âme, lily!â  tilden ran along the hallway behind her, stack of textbooks teetering in his arm. Heâd only stopped for a moment, to check on the greenhouses out of a window, but in that time Lily had somehow managed to get to the other side of the galaxy. âyou forgot me. has anyone told you that you walk at the speed of light?â
âClytemnestra was a Greek queen.  A favorite of mine.â Alecto leveled a cool gaze at the Hufflepuff. âYes whatever, put her down now.â
âYvaine is Scottish for evening star. Way better than Greece.â Tilden gave the cat a small kiss on the top of her nose, before passing her back to her original owner. âEven if she was a queen, she has a weird name.â
â ⊠Donât tell me that was a thinly veiled THREAT, Toots. Because if it was, Iâll burn all your precious plants to nothing.â
âI wasnât making a threat, but you certainly are. Iâll be sure to warn all my plants to attack if they ever see you coming. Greenhouse three has a particularly vicious Devils Snare, if youâd like to start there.â
